  1. I just purchased the new Garmin StreetPilot 7500 for my vehicle. I should be getting it next week! I bought it because I travel frequently during the spring and summer months, and I've wanted a unit just for the car, so I can easily locate restaurants, gas stations, and hotels when I'm traveling out of state. The unit is also equipped with traffic, weather, and XM Satellite Radio. Buying the unit, GXM 30 antenna, and bag to keep the unit in, I saved nearly $700 if I would've bought the unit alone at retail price, so I got a deal out of it. I know the unit was designed with larger vehicles such as RV's, buses, etc. in mind, but I read a review that it can be used for those who like the larger screen size.
  2. I am asking a huge favor to all fellow geocachers out there. I am a 6th grade teacher in Greenfield, Wisconsin who is seeking other geocachers to help my students with a school geography project. This is the second year I have had my students create their own travel bugs, release them, and have them track where they go. If you locate any travel bugs that begin with WMS (initials for our school), please pick them up, log them w/photos, and move them along quickly toward their goals. The '04 series was recently released. Although most of them are still in Wisconsin, some have already migrated into the Chicago area and one in Missouri. My two social studies classes are also involved in travel bug races with other schools. One travel bug would like to go to Washington state. (Washington State or Bust!) and the other would like to go to Louisiana (Migrate To Mardi Gras). Please move these if you come across them. If you happen to pick up one of our bugs from the '03 series last year, you can still move them towards their goal, otherwise move them back towards Wisconsin. Thanks for your assistance. I know my students will appreciate it.
  3. I'm a middle school teacher in Wisconsin, who incorporates geocaching in the social studies curriculum. I managed to purchase enough travel bugs for each student in my class. A rep at Groundspeak sold them to me at a discounted price since they were being used for education. My students and I began a travel bug exchange cache in the nature pod next to our school. All of our bugs started the cache and now they are well on their way. I have my students keep track of their bug's travels. This is definitely a great way to keep the kids fresh on their geography skills and being familiar with the United States. The cache is called Travel Bug School Field Trip. The description contains links to everyone's travel bug page. Check it out: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...dc-642c7ecf7f6a If you would like to "adopt" any of our bugs, please contact me. We can also exchange e-mails with each other's classes.
  4. I like the Print Bug Sheet feature on the travel bug web pages. I came across a travel bug that I had recently that had a much smaller version of the bug sheet page attached to it on the chain and didn't look exactly how the bug sheet looks on the site. I was wondering if there's a place on the site I can print a smaller version of the bug sheet page. I suppose I can print the regular page out and shrink it down on a copy machine, but maybe there's another alternative??? Just wondering.
  5. I'm a school teacher in Wisconsin that uses geocaching as a resource to help my 6th graders review some of their geography knowledge. Along with the caches we have hidden, we have over 20 travel bugs out there that we keep track of at school. They all begin with the abbreviation of our school name (WMS -). We have a Flat Stanley TB that is trying to make through all 50 states. As of Dec. 23rd, he's in Ohio desperately trying to get to Kentucky. We also have a Flat Stanley TB making its way around Wisconsin. My 2nd quarter social studies class each made their own travel bugs that all began in our latest cache (Travel Bug School Field Trip). We will keep track of them at school, so if you come across one of them, please move it along ASAP. My students and I were recently featured in our local newspaper about our geocaching activities. Here's the link to the article: http://www.zwire.com/news/newsstory.cfm?ne...&CATEGORYID=410 There is also a geocaching page on my classroom website with links to all the travel bugs we have. http://www.whitnall.com/wms/teachers/6th_g...avert/index.htm Again, if you come across one of our travel bugs, especially the Flat Stanleys, please participate and move them along quickly. Thanks.
