  1. Hey guys I will be visiting Manila and San Jose area for three weeks in August. I have never attempted GC in another country and am eager to try. Hopefully I can get a few "finds" and even transport a few TB's over there as well as bring a few back to San Diego, CA. Wish me luck.
  2. OK, so I though I had this figured out on my Dakota 20 but cannot get it to work. I want to figure out the easiest and quickest way to switch from "on road" to "off road" mode when hunting for Geocaches. I thought that I could modify it in the following menu: Setup..routing...off road transitions..distance and adjust the distance to switch but that does not seem to work. Once I drive to a location near the cache I want to be able to either "auto" switch or find an easy way to manually switch over. My old Etrex allowed me to do this with one push of a button but I cannot get my Dakota 20 out of "on road" mode without a large number of steps.
  3. I replaced a very old Etrex LegendC a few months ago with a Dakota 20 and so far love the little unit. It is used primarily for Geocaching and I have noticed that the compass pointer is sometimes 180 deg. off from the actual cache location (it points in the opposite direction). I am not talking when I am very close (+/- 200 feet) but when I am 0.2 miles or greater. It does this about 50% of the time. I already have a general idea where the cache location is so I will still hike towards it's location and when I get within say 0.1 mile, the compass will correct itself and point in the correct direction towards the cache location. I calibrate the unit each morning before I start searching and the firmware is updated to the latest version. The profile for the unit is set to "geocaching". Any ideas?
  4. When I want to send just a couple of caches to my PN-40 and don't want to set up a PQ, I am ocasionally not able to send the cache to my GPSr. I have the Delorme plug-in installed and it only happens to about one out of every 15 I attempt to send to the unit. When I click the "send to GPS" button, the new window pops up for the transfer notification but just sits there and none on the green check marks pop up. Any ideas? I have thought about trying to reinstall the plug-in but thought I would ask here first. As I said, I normally don't have any problems and there is just the occasional cache that won't transfer. THX
  5. The ability to keep a lock on the satelite signal is my greatest complaint and reason for looking to upgrade. I see that there is a new unit from Garmin; the Dakota. Maybe I will look in to it as well. Thanks for the feedback.
  6. I have a Garmin Etrex Legend C that I have been using for the past few years for the occasional Geocache hunt and was thinking of replacing it with either the Colorado 300 or Oregon 300. I know that the Etrex is a great little handheld and want feedback from those who have upgraded to the Oregon or Colorado. I like the paperless Geocaching ability of the newer models. Anybody out there that has upgraded please provide feedback. Thanks
