  1. Regardless of cache page instructions, these guys were stupid. Remove their membership! or am I just in a bad mood?
  2. I agree with JV. One of the main issues you will face is that cachers sometimes do not replace a cache well. I try to make it so simple that they can't miss...... and they sometimes still do. So, if the cache is hard to get back to, it will become a pain.
  3. No such thing as a bad day, unless I'm cachin' alone - which I do pretty often. Then I'm more easily discouraged.
  4. Personally, with my temperment (etc.) I can find coins and t.b.'s to be a "pleasant burden." I feel a great sense of responsibility to deal with them correctly, and even to the point that it puts a sense of urgency on me. I don't take very many.
  5. Well, dear, I think I'd be asking Jeremy about that money-back guarantee...... or You might visit the forums for your area and make a friend on-line and get someone who would love to go cachin' with you. I've done that a few times, and it works well. good luck. Oh, you know what? There AREN'T any caches in NH.
  6. Simply go to the closest cache near you, and choose the option, "nearest caches that I HAVEN'T found..."
  7. I've done one where you park in a local cul-de-sac and cross the 17th fairway into the trees. I felt a little funny about it, but I did it. The course owner is aware.
  8. It can be done. In fact Lep's record didn't stand very long. Two guys from Germany blew right by Lep's record of 240 a few months later and bagged 263. Another team found well over 300 but used questionable methods such as splitting the team up, so some people don't accept their record. I can't find the article written by the German regarding the record run and preparation, but it included a lot of pre-hunt planning, including eliminating high difficulty caches and those with recent DNFs and having a local plan the best route, taking into consideration traffic patterns and also having a local serve as a driver. The planning was extensive and took a couple of months. True, but that's still a "we" and not an "I" which means more than two eyes, two hands and two feet in the search. Not looking at "team" efforts according to the OP. Seems like the "community" is trying to be gracious...... you just won't let us??? You have to win on a technicality??
  9. I'm afraid that if you are caching with a baby, they may supply a few surprise caches of their own.
  10. use the best container you are able, and hide in the best locations, and you will have an easier life.
  11. I think the best cache owners are: -willing to temp. disable until they can check. -willing to overlook (most of the time) a perceived disapproval. They are not threatened by some wayward comment. -trying to get approval by the quality of what they do, rather than expecting approval for coloring poorly (kg. reference). Some people think they should get praised just for showing up.
  12. Well, back to the original question: If the hole area is as big as the Grand Canyon, then it would seem to be impossible to dominate.... then again, with a six-year head start, who knows? But if that hole is much smaller, then you might have to discuss it openly at a meet'n'greet, or something. But seriously, I worked very hard NOT to totally dominate. I had a 4-year head start around here, and I needed to place enough to draw people. Eventually it worked. We have cachers now. At one of our first meet'n'greets I mentioned archiving caches for others...... no requests, so far. And I think I was pretty successful in leaving room, and in having some "standing permission" in-place when they arrived.
  13. You could make it a Nude Cacher event. That ought to thin the herd.
  14. Since I claimed "240" as my answer in this thread, I'll assume you are addressing me. You'd be guessing wrong. All the caches were found in a 24 hour consecutive period. Please don't make statements about what's "impossible." It makes it sound like you are questioning the veracity of my answer. Oh, my dear RB! In just two years you have almost equaled my count...... and it has taken me 4 years to do it. How is it possible? Are you sure you didn't double-log? (obviously you have missed some things. Check out Nashville on gc. Check out "power trail" in the forums.)
  15. If your GPSr can see the sky it will work anywhere on earth. The only extra cost you might need is a base map but thats not essential. I thought Irish gps's were whiskey powered.
  16. Would solar pannels deliver enough shock to zap a cacher for choosing the wrong ammo box? I mean, 3 stumps, 3 boxes, but only one is the correct one, so choose carefully.
  17. This is difficult to quantify and doubtless varies from one region to another. When I spoke with Florida FWC on geocaching I suggest that the usual (here) 30-100 feet off trail guarantees a user trail - as does anything closer. 400 or more feet results in much less visible user trail, generally. But here, I'm talking about large properties, with a tremendous ability for the vegetation to recover over a long summer. My cache, mentioned in the OP, is located behind a patch of jewelweed, just beside the trail. It is easily damaged, but not really destroyed. Jewelweed always reseeds itself, and grows in patches of sunlight and moisture under the trees. It recovers easily. I have never noticed any mentionable damage to these plants.
  18. Due to the State's and the County's rather new (renewed) interest in geocaching, some dedicated people are working to establish policy, and it is withing the rules and best interest of geocaching that the members of NCOG work with these people. One result is that one cache was found to be in violation of State rules and was archived. Fair enough. But I find the negative log on this cache to be in bad taste. I think it should be removed.
  19. What I am convinced often happens: Person A is the one to pull the cache out. Signs first, then begins to wander away. By the time person B or C, or child, D, signs, they are in a hurry to catch up, and didn't see where it came from......
