  1. Thanks, I really didn't think any lived down there.
  2. Virginia doesn't have deer signs on the road... they have bull elk. Does anyone know why? Just got my first Virginia caches down by Gate City.
  3. They also have a heckuva lot more overhead. Regardless, it would take them actually PAYING folks to hide caches to build a database that might rival this 800 pound gorilla any time in the next 10 years. Their marketeers need a wake up call if they think they can pull it off without spending roughly 2 to 3 times what Groundspeak is currently worth. But competition is GOOD. I'm still rootin' for the Frog though. Just think where we would be right now if there had been another real contender of a cache listing site since 2003. About 2005 the natives were real restless around here. Terracaching fizzled in a little over a year and a half because (to me) it became a hate the frog club.... and Navicache... I signed up for a few alterative cache websites. The real issue was the fact none of them had caches anywhere near me. repeated over and over for years.
  4. Hey, Mod, this guy's complaining about people and trying to cause trouble.
  5. Personally, I prefer 3, as a general rule, and have often avoided larger ones.
  6. Not familiar with it.... but geocaching coords do not come with it... can you enter new coords? That's what you'd do with any other gps. Some manually, though. Looking over some reviews wasn't helpful for me.
  7. Ammo cans are really great for caching..... one reason is that they're fairly cheap. If you put out a bad container you will pay the price in problems.
  8. This is maturity, rather than the excitement at the beginning. Congratulations.
  9. I can just see CaptPhil or Moonrock611 jumping on this one.
  10. I'll take your word for it. There's a little confusion about "nettles." Delaware, Ohio has a cache called "nettles, nettles..." IT means briars. Real stinging nettles won't draw blood.... unless your fingernails rip the flesh open. Yes, Jewelweed IS AN INSTANT CURE - cut open a stalk and rub the juice on. The two seem to grown in tandem, they need damper areas, and partial sun, though the nettles can take more sun and less water, I think. Look along the edge of the woods. Patches are usually larger than 10 sq. feet. In my experience.
  11. They'd have stopped flights in from Mexico if it was a real problem........... Oh, wait, wrong topic.
  12. We downloaded both googleearth (and so far, it's kinda cool) and gpsmanager. I'm trying to learn how to use them.
  13. Was using easygps on Win98. New computer has Ubuntu. What software to install? Need help. thoughts of gpsbabel?
  14. I have to admit that there's one local cache I have avoided just because I don't own a digital camera to take the Phoon picture of myself that's required............ but I just stayed away........... many have enjoyed it. I wasn't harmed.
  15. As long as you follow the rules, your approver will say "OK." Each micro that is taken will have to be approved individually.
  16. I hope you didn't dnf a hamster cache........ it probably needs air by now.
  17. a. read the rules (by going to the first page of gc and clicking on the "learn more" button. b. at the bottom is a "want to learn more" button- try it. c. there's a "learn how to hide" button d. find a spot which suits you AND obeys the rules (like rr tracks, etc.) e. find a real nice container which won't cause you problems. f. think more of the "style" of the hide than the contents. Muggles will give you trouble, so out-smart them at the beginning. g. Have your cache all in place before you go to "step 4" and fill out the "online form". h. go home and worry anxiously about it like the rest of us do.
  18. The basic view that I shouldn't have this restriction (whichever one we are discussing at the moment) seems to me ...... wrong. Just do something which WILL comply.
  19. Nothing that ever happens with technology is weird.
  20. Welcome, and save your money. The Doctor won't be able to cure you.
