  1. putting words into my mouth again? again, there is nothing for me to prove further the point of those links was to show that there is indeed some latitude that the reviewers can use without going to extremes perhaps if people would get out of the "i'm assuming your intentions are malicious" shell they would be able to better see the point of this thread On the topic of speaking volumes, it is interesting to note that the OP didn't even attend the event she is whining about. what does that have to do with anything? you mean to tell me that you never raise any issues unless they affect you personally?

    New maps

hasn't happened here since my last post, maybe the leap year was cancelled in Canada
  3. t4e

    Geocacher of the month

ROFL in the stats his last milestone is at 50000 next is "Your next milestone will be awarded at 100000 cache finds." that is pretty random from GC after listing his milestones every 10000 caches
  4. "resolve itself over time"? yeah in 365 days from now...woohoo lmao
  5. what's wrong with filtering a PQ for "winter friendly"?
  6. since it is a used unit the person you got it from obviously did not clear everything and you seeing their finds plug the unit in the computer go to Garmin directory and delete the file called "geocache visits" once she will find some caches on her own and will mark them found the file will be recreated fresh that is the same file she will use to upload "field notes" to log her finds on geocaching.com
  7. not really, you were originally referring to your own generated profile stats in GSAK, that is still showing as having been updated 12.21.2011 that page you have to update yourself, has nothing to do with geocaching.com Statistics tab...2 completely different stats
  8. just don't go in the summer, the mozzies will lift you off and the vegetation makes it a D4 GCA6 It's that bad eh? Mozzies come from miles around for me as it is. Is spring a good time? i don't know if that's how it normally is out there, but we could not even escape the mozzies in the city, they seemed to come out of the pavement, and at dusk as soon as you stopped the car a black cloud was around it lmao, impossible to get in/out of the car without letting some in that should be a good time to go

    yes

i can guess what this thread is all about, and its not gps and technology but a thread is here http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=287966&pid=4934728&st=0entry4934728
  10. ok i updated to FF 9 and i'm getting the "yes"...not as pretty as in Chrome once i click on the "OK" i get an option to prevent the page from creating further dialogs, lets see if it works
  11. i see you use google chrome, did you try other browser, i'm not getting that in FF? anyway, i find that popup hilarious lol
  12. click on big button "Update my statistics now"
  13. i just deleted one from my watch list and i didn't get any Yes No buttons
  14. that option is only available if the cache has not been published yet
  15. from our trip to Las Vegas this week, a white Christmas in the Mohave Desert Preserve
  16. It looks like you are implying that the reviewers were aware of the violation in those listings and knowingly published the listings. Do you have any evidence to back that up or are you just assuming that must be so? yeap, it sure looks like that is exactly what happened That does not look like any supporting evidence to me. Making accusations that are not backed up does not help either. If you have proof of your claims than present it. Otherwise it is pure speculation. ctrl+F does not always work. At least one of the present examples did not contain the work charity. Can you provide a list of all the words the reviewers ahould search for in every listing the publish. That would be more helpful than "i expect the reviewers to read what they publish" I assume they do otherwise no cache would ever have problems getting listed. Again, inflammatory statements do not generally help. Try asking a direct question nicely and you may get surprised with an answer. Demanding an answer while making inflammatory remarks and accusations will most likely end up in nothing from the reviewers. supporting evidence of what? i don't feel i need any more proof beyond the links to the listings...that is the proof i had to provide afaic,i can't read people's minds so the burden of proof lies on the other parties now please stop misinterpreting my words, its seriously annoying now where the heck do you see "inflammatory remarks"? i did not demand anything, the question was asked in the very post with the links, please do go back and read it, i asked for someone with "authority" to make a comment ...i don't think i can be anymore polite than that, unfortunately i sense a position of ignoring my posts, which of course they are free to do so, just not very professional
  17. and just when everyone thought this thread has "died" i returned from visiting Vegas and got a chance to read the replies It looks like you are implying that the reviewers were aware of the violation in those listings and knowingly published the listings. Do you have any evidence to back that up or are you just assuming that must be so? yeap, it sure looks like that is exactly what happened Groundspeak has over 200 volunteer reviewers worldwide. Since there is a bit of latitude given to them for making decisions like this, rather than a rigid rulebook, you will unfortunately see 200 ways to interpret situations, and cache reviews around the world. It's unfortunate that things are not consistent enough for you, but at the end of the day we're all here to have a fun, enjoyable hobby - and that includes those who review our caches. so we're at the whim of our local reviewers the "latitude" given to them its fine but unfortunately when in one region this "latitude" is taken to extremes makes it unfair and inconsistent yeap, we are supposed to have fun, but situations like this take something out of that enjoyment one shouldn't have to deal with such petty issues because of differences of opinions you can't blame the players, some do it because they've been allowed to do so in past years a few of those events i posted had a 2010 version with the same wording leveling the playing field by reporting it through the back door is not the point Winston Churchill said it very well ctrl+F works wonders, however i expect the reviewers to read what they publish and i'm sorry i don't buy the "overworked" claim if that's the case GC should add more reviewers, i'm sure there's plenty of people out there "qualified" enough for the "job" but seems like its easier to become the CEO of a company than be a reviewer i still don't see any comments from any of the reviewers, which speaks volumes in a way
  18. as a foreigner YOU are supposed to respect the laws of the country you are visiting try telling the cop that the locals successfully bypassed the law, see if the argument flies better example yet, you get stopped for speeding, would the argument that the car ahead of you was speeding get you out of trouble? I believe you misunderstood the scenario before you. 4WF is saying that he, the foreigner, would not be aware that the cache was placed illegally. But the locals do. The fact they do nothing about it potentially makes it more than just a local problem. It could very well become a problem for visitors into their area. i didn't misunderstand at all... leaving geocaching aside, there are many situations where locals are fully aware of something being illegal yet some manage to go unpunished and those situations will not be apparent to a visitor i agree that anything illegal has wider implications and will affect those unaware of the laws what i'm saying is that as a visitor is upon you to educate yourself about the laws and customs of the place you visit, you are not in your own country and are subject to the laws of that place, not everything that is illegal is posted in public places because it is assumed that locals know the laws, not a single country accounts for visitors and plasters the streets with everything you shouldn't do let me give you another example for argument's sake say you go to a country where turning right on red light is illegal there is no signage telling you its not allowed because the locals already know that you see someone turning right on red light and you follow suit only to get stopped by the cops, what would be your argument? "nobody told me i cant do that and i just saw a guy doing it"? it is upon you to know that rule when you start driving in that country, no excuses
  19. famous last words i certainly hope so, because it is extremely hard to come to terms with the inconsistencies, not only from country to country but within our own country from province to province on the one hand we are "fortunate" in Ontario to be ruled with an iron fist, nitpicking on even the smallest and insignificant things, twisting the guidelines to the max meanwhile next door blatant violation of the guidelines are let go it is my hope and desire that there is unity across the board in applying the guidelines
  20. just don't go in the summer, the mozzies will lift you off and the vegetation makes it a D4 GCA6
  21. has nothing to do with where the TB "resides" it can be in your collection without being listed as collectible, each choice is a manual task not automatic
  22. as a foreigner YOU are supposed to respect the laws of the country you are visiting try telling the cop that the locals successfully bypassed the law, see if the argument flies better example yet, you get stopped for speeding, would the argument that the car ahead of you was speeding get you out of trouble? What if local cache A is afraid to post the NA and asks cacher B from across the pond to post it for him? same as i said before, cacher B has no business in posting anything anywhere where they haven't physically been, no matter what the circumstances i am not quite getting this point Just an idea I threw out there in post #172 http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=287203&view=findpost&p=4924638 give me an example of what you mean, i just can't think of anything useful beyond regular contact For example a simple link in the cache listing: "I want to do this cache, but not alone"...which then maybe prompts you to enter your mobile, time you are available, agreement that your cacher name/phone number is forwarded when someone else comes onboard. When someone else sees the listing they might see: "1 cacher waiting to do this cache together". Something along those lines. Heck, thinking about it, it might even be possible to use something like this for owners/cachers living nearby to go out into the field every now and then when someone is at their cache/needs help (I know it happens informally anyway, but could be standardized on the site). that can be achieved with a note, or by contacting people through their profile
