Thanks for repeating what has already been written in the initial post, which describes the criterions for getting a CCE granted. I should have phrased my question better: There are certain rules for hosting a general geocaching event (e.g. non-commercial, not together with non-GC-events, no GC-event clustering etc.). Do the same rules apply for a CCE event?

Are there any special rules for hosting a CCE? I mean, do the same rules apply as for regular events?

Hey! That worked very well! Much better than geocaching.com or project-gc.com tools. Issue solved: High resolution of .gpx is kept, and a bit more than 1000 Caches are identified within 500 meters of my track. Now, I can start walking, stay offline and decide on the way, how much diversion I may take :-) Thanks Hans!

I see that would be a good option, with the only limitation that I am traditionally a Macintosher, and GSAK requires some kind of Microsoft OS, which is non-existent in my household. But GSAK seems to be the best solution for my task. Yes, that is an option, but some manual work, which I would like to avoid. Thanks for all replies! All of them are helpful!

For my next long hike (432km), I tried to save all the caches along my track by using the .gpx-file of my route, uploaded it as "User route" and used the function "Find caches along a Route". The first issue I found with this method is that there seems to be an upper limit on the number of tracking points of my uploaded gpx-data after upload, and so the resolution of the uploaded track got reduced significantly. In some (curvy) areas, the uploaded track is a few hundred meters away from my original track. OK, no issue, I thought. If I set the envelope for the search high enough, this would compensate, and I still would collect all caches, that are within some reasonable distance from my track (I wanted something like a 300 meters wide envelope and not more, as this would cost too much time each time to leave my main track). But then, the next limitation kicked in, and that is the limitation to 1000 caches in total that can be stored using this kind of pocket query. Does one of you have an idea how to solve my "mystery"? I would like to avoid to have to split up my .gpx-track into, say 10 sub-tracks, and request the caches for each sub-track (the limitation here: this would take me at least 30 days, as only 1 PQ per 3days is possible). Or are there any other tools available in the deep web or on geocaching.com? Thanks for any hints.

Ich meinte etwas anderes: baer2006 hat geschrieben, dass ein Cache, zu dem man eine Leiter benötigt, in manchen Gegenden ein T5 ist, in andern aber nicht (sondern ein T4,5). Ich finde (unabhängig davon, wie die Wertung eines Leitercaches wirklich sein sollte), das sollte nicht vom Ort abhängen. Ein Ostfriese kann eine Leiter ja genau so gut einsetzen wie ein Tiroler. Zumindest war das bisher meine Erfahrung.

Wie kommst Du darauf, dass T-Einstufungen "ortsüblich" vorgenommen werden? Ist das so? Hängt das von der Gegend ab? Ich hätte gesagt: Die Regeln zur Einstufung sind unabhängig von der Gegend. Klar, sind die Regeln unscharf formuliert. Aber von der Gegend sollte die Einschätzung gar nicht abhängen. Oder habe ich vielleicht etwas übersehen?

Sorry, but this is simply wrong. You imply other peoples intentions. Why so negative? If I place an event in a region with no active geocaching community, I take the chance, that some travellers are around at about the same time as me, for example. Yes, low chances. But implying that such an event is only done for selfish reasons is quite mean, I think.

Maybe becoming a bit of topic, but what exactly is the reasoning behind this policy? What is wrong with trying to setup an event, that has little chances for attendees? And why are such policies "directed by the Headquarter", and not reflected in updated Geocaching rules? I think, it does no harm to anybody, if Geocachers organise events and nobody turns up. So why not publishing them?

Das stimmt nicht. Es kann leider beides bedeuten, und noch viel, viel mehr. Als Übersetzer sage ich Dir: es kommt auf den Kontext an. Was der Kontext bei Geocaching-Regeln genau sein soll? Da hat sich der Autor ursprünglich mal was dabei gedacht, Du denkst Dir was, ich denke mir was, der Reviewer denkt sich was.... Die GC-Regeln sind sehr unprofessionell und wischi-waschi formuliert. Aber hey! Das ist ein Spiel, da ist das völlig OK! Kein Problem, wenn, wie schon geschrieben, einige Reviewer nicht dogmatisch wären und ihr private Interpretation in die Regeln legen würden. Und die zum Gral machen. Was die Hotellobby angeht: das ist formal-juristisch zwar ein Business, und auch formal kein öffentlicher Raum. Praktisch ist es aber doch ein öffentlicher Raum, da jeder die Lobby (in der Regel) betreten darf. Sogar nur zum Schauen, manche wollen nur was fragen, oder wegen Regen kurz unterstehen. Wenn ich diese Hotellobby dann betrete, um die schöne Architektur zu bestaunen oder mich in ein Logbuch einzutragen, dann "entere" ich wirklich kein "business". Außer, man hat seinen Enterhaken dabei. Dann fliegt man wieder raus :-) Und manch einer trinkt dann doch noch einen Cappuccino an der Hotelbar. Dann freut sich der Hotelier! Oh nein, was schreibe ich denn. Kommerzielle Caches sind auch verboten.....

Am Beispiel dieser Formulierung kann man gut erkennen, wie schwammig und wischi-waschi fast alle GC-Regeln formuliert sind. Absicht von GS oder nicht? Ich weiss es nicht. Aber aus der Formulierung kann man alles und nicht heraus lesen. "In ein Geschäft gehen"? Ist das was anderes als "eine Hotellobby betreten"? Davon steht nichts. Also dürfte der OP seinen Cache in der Lobby verstecken. Meine Erfahrung ist, dass es (leider) Reviewer gibt, die die wachsweichen Formulierungen nach ihrem Gusto interpretieren und sich dabei auf keine Diskussion einlassen und meinen, die Regeln wären klar formuliert. Dagegen tun kann man nichts, außer immer und immer wieder seine Argumente vorbringen. Wie es auch hier in der Diskussion passiert. Oder aufgeben. Ist ja nur ein Spiel.

Du kannst das Wort "eigentlich" ersatzlos aus Deinem Satz streichen.

Also, ich finde die Sache ist recht klar. Das Löschen Deines Posts geht gar nicht. Die Begründung, mit der der Owner löscht, nämlich dass er glaubt, dass das Photo gefaked ist, ist ja keine Begründung. Glauben gehört in die Kirche, und richtet dort auch nur Unheil an. Beschwere Dich bei Groundspeak über den Owner. Solche Owner braucht unser Spiel nicht.

I will travel to India soon and thought about preparing a few nice caches to entertain me during my visit.... But... where are the caches? Unbelievable! Why don't you like this nice hobby? Geocaching is fun! Seriously: does anyone know of a reason why geocaching is not so common in India? For instance in Telangana, there is only one single active cache (GC6CX04)! Has anything recently changed in the event publishing guidelines with respect to the "Event-within-an-event"-rule? I am asking, as it seems to be very common to have events on Christmas markets. According to the event guidelines, such Geocaching-Events cannot be published. But I see such events all over the place. Hi, does someone have an idea how to find caches whose GC-code ends e.g. with 33 or 79? (or obviously with any other two digit/letter combination). e.g. all "GC???79" in my area or country? I have not found a simple way to do this. Sure, it's needed for completing a challenge :-) Thanks for any hints Rag_De

Es stimmt, Appeals entscheiden manchmal für die eine und manchmal für die andere Seite. Ich würde Groundspeak jedoch nicht als "neutral" bezeichnen. Allerdings, zugegeben, ist das nur so ein Gefühl von mir. Hier hätte ich besser schreiben sollen: "transparente, nachvollziehbare, vielleicht sogar demokratische Legitimation". Nur mal so als Gedankenmodell: wäre es vorstellbar, wenn sich Reviewer von den Geocaching-Spielern wählen lassen könnten/müssten? Reviewer wird man durch einen nicht sehr demokratischen Prozess. Aber das geht jetzt alles am Thema vorbei.

Interessante Diskussion, die ich mit meiner Ausgangsfrage losgetreten habe. Bei den angesprochenen Konflikten zwischen Cachern/Ownern und Reviewern treten aus meiner Sicht 2 wesentliche Dinge zu Tage: - Es fehlt eine neutrale Instanz, die entscheidet, ob Regeln richtig oder falsch ausgelegt wurden (in einer demokratischen Struktur mit Gewaltenteilung wäre das die Justiz). - Es fehlt eine Legitimation der Reviewer , die in irgend einer Weise transparent und nachvollziehbar ist. Beide Punkte gibt es bei beim Geocaching über Groundspeak nicht. Daher ist es müßig, sich mit Reviewern zu streiten. Die sitzen immer am längeren Hebel, per Konstruktion. Egal ob sie "im Recht" sind oder nicht. Man kann die Situation am Ende nur so hin nehmen wie sie ist, oder das Spiel Geocaching sein lassen.
