My GPS is very erratic the last 2 days on my phone when geocaching.

  2. The same issue started happening to me again too, as well as my brother. I'm on Firmware 3.60 on my Garmin Oregon 750. When I refresh to pull in the caches around me, the refresh just keeps spinning, and spinning, and spinning, and spinning, and spinning, and spinning, and spinning, and spinning, and spinning, and spinning, and spinning, and spinning, and spinning, and spinning, and spinning, and spinning, and spinning, and spinning, and spinning, and spinning, and spinning, and spinning, and spinning, and spinning. It frustrating this is happening again this year.
  3. It's nice to FINALLY find this thread. My brother and I specifically bought Oregon 750's for the live geocaching. Ours stopped working in June like everyone elses, however, until today, this is the only forum I've found that talks about it. To Groundspeak: we are not made at you. People are venting here. I was using my 750 no problems. Loved it. I was caching, and got an update for Garmin 'connect' on my phone. Clicked 'ok', updated, and BAMM!!! Hasn't worked since. I opened a ticket with garmin support, and got the blah blah blah run around for like 6 weeks now. Last week, I finally got a response of " we duplicated the problem, but don't know what is causing it. GARMIN CONNECT!!!!! Hear me now and believe me later. I've done everything on my android, as described here. Rebooted everythimg. Unregister. Reregistered. Uninot all connect. Reinstall. Factory reset. Rub the rabbits foot. Nothing worked. Did it all on my work iphone too. Nada. I can turn on gps. Reboot phone. Try to live geocache, and get the spinning refresh thing. My phone, however, says "Unfortunately, Garmin Connect has stopped working." I only get it once, unless I reboot my phone. Told all this to Garmin in emails, with screenshot many times. They first said they don believe it's that. Now the latest emails state there us an issue, but they are working on resolving it. I will never buy a toyota, after what happened years ago. People have forgotten, and buy toyota. I'm at that point with the way this is being handled that I don't think I will ever buy another garmin product again, nor will I support them. I don't like the way this is being handled, as well, don't like the finger pointing between Groundspeak and garmin. I'd like to get my money back, but that is not an option. For the $$ I spent on the GO750, I will tell everyone about my experience, and how it was handled. Peoplease can make thier own decision whether to buy garmin products, but information and being informed is power. Hoping both partits can work together to solve the problem, and keep us all informed too. Regards, CD
  4. Very sorry to hear about Sven. I have been watching many videos by him for almost a year now. It wasn't until today, I noticed on many of them, they were more than 4 years old. And then I had read in the comments section of one of the videos on Youtube, the tragedy that had happened. No doubt that I've stepped up my game in placing geocaches here in the US, from a man I've never met across the pond. Very sorry for your loss, Svensmum.
  5. I say go for it! Here's my latest, called "Timing is Everything," GC6KHV3:Timing is Everything cache Wow, what a great cache. I wish I new more about electronics where I can build something like that. I'm pretty slick, but not that slick. Here is my cache that just got published and found today. Its about a mile in the woods. There is a phone book there with numbers of famous musicians that you can call. (Fake numbers). But if users pick up the phone and hit a single number, for instance '0', they will hear a dial tone, button push, then ringing. After 2 rings, "Operator" by Jim Croce starts playing. If they press '1', then they hear, dial tone, button press, (so on so forth) and "One is the loniest number" by Three dog night starts playing. If they hit '8' then "Jenny, Jenny 867-5309" starts playing. If they hit '5' then the operator comes on stating all of representatives are busy, and puts them on hold. That's when the song "Payphone" by Maroon 5 starts playing. Every 15 seconds, the operator comes on thanking the person for their call, and a new song clip plays (for example "Call Me" by Blondie". After several clips and maybe 2 minutes, I come on the phone and give them a hint on how to get into the Gadget cache. I was hoping to get the actual bells working, but don't know enough to do that. Its only parts of a real payphone, button, coin return, etc... Everything else (the box) is wood, as well as the housing that it sits in. After I had it complete, I found another unit that was more expensive that had a motion sensor on it. Would have been cool to use that to make the phone ring when a cacher approaches. Not sure what kind of battery that would take to make it last, so maybe its better that I had not thought of it before I had finished it. lol
  6. I trust you are joking about this part! Such a noise will certainly attract muggles in an urban/suburban area and would most unwelcome on a nice hike though the woods. No worries. I have several gadget caches with Car horns in them. The first one is at a Tire Center where they fix cars. No one is the wiser if someone is geocaching. The horns are loud at the cache, but understand that it is inside a wooden box. Its not as loud 20 feet away, 1/2 at 40 feet, so on and so forth. I would never use one in an area that you do not want to attract attention. Gadget caches are easy to find, hard to open, so its common sense that you need to place it in the right location, and obviously, you need permission from land owners when placing. I appreciate the concern though.
  7. I seen your video. What a great concept. Hope you don't mind if I borrow the idea from you. I'd like to make a box with 5 doors. Instead of opening them 1 2 3 4 5, the order will be 1 2 5 4 3. I also like your idea of using a solenoid to unlock the door. I don't want to be identical, so I'd like to make door #4 open with 8 switches. You have to switch them in a certain order Up/Down or Left/Right. In order to open the door, you push a button. Correct and green light goes on and door unlocks. Wrong and a loud car horn beeps. I got that idea from a friend of mine.
