  1. I wouldn’t call it unfair at all. My GPSr has mapping abilities and when I go caching with a my buddy whose GPSr does not map we tend to use my map to get us close to the area. But as stated by others above you still have to use common sense and good judgment to get you to the cache itself. And when I’ve downloaded all the caches in the area we are heading to ahead of time via pocket queries from Geocaching.com on to my GPSr it makes it much easier to pick and choose the caches we want to attempt as they scroll by on the map as we travel. Easier; yes. Unfair; no.

Wow! That is exactly what me and my buddy do. This is not an unfair advantage. If you can afford it, get one. Caching is caching.

  2. I AM NOT SELLING NOR DO I KNOW WHO IS SELLING THESE! BUT YOU KNOW WHAT THE FIRST THING TO COME TO MIND WAS WHEN I SAW THIS ON THE NET

  3. Made a quick trip from central Florida to Washington D.C./Maryland mostly to do the A.P.E. cache.

Amen to that! South Carolina to Maryland and back again with Geoholic 28. Started out as going for the APE but turned into a road trip filles with cool caches. Some of which really trumped the APE when we got there. In the end, round trip, almost a 1000 miles, I think.

I think there are other ways we can help out with Dr. bills, by taking up donations, having BBQ sales and so on.

I like the idea of memorial caches or a plaque placed in his honor. Keeping "Jon Caching" is not what he was about. He was not about the numbers. Only about keeping geocaching alive in South Carolina that's why it makes more sense to go hide a cache in his honor.

Well put Paula. I agree. Jon was just about geocaching, pure and simple. As far as caches go he liked them tough and in the woods. We placed a bunch today just to get together and see each other. We placed six in AJ State Park and they are there for Jon. I think that a coin is a nice idea but Jon never was much about them. His favorite coin was the SC_r volunteer coin he recieved from the reviewer for what he has done for caching as a whole. I like the sentiment of UOTrackers idea but I don't know how Jon would feel about it.

  5. As said here by others, a lot depends on the quality. For some even one hide is too many if it's a really lame, junky hide.

But with that said, there are some areas where if it wasn't for 1 or 2 very prolific local hiders, there'd be very few hiders. While in the southern, more "urban" (but still lots of nice parks and small forest preserves that have caches) part of the county where I live there are lots of cachers, if it weren't for 2 hiders, geobernd and jonboy, there'd be almost no caches in the northern part of this county. And their caches are all "quality", usually some very nice views and often quite a challenge. I certainly don't want them to stop hiding. <_<

    Quality, quality, quality!

  6. sfwife stands for "special forces" wife. my caching partner and husband is greensfgiant. He's a retired green beret now but I think it's still very appropriate.

Once a soldier always a soldier. I was/am/will always be a Combat Engineer. Thanks you husband for his years of service from another former military member.

BTW I do remember the rock group Ironmaiden that's is how old I am. :D:D:laughing::D

Watch how you throw around the old word. I remember them too. Sadly I just listened to them this morning on the way to work.

The X-Man part of my handle came from my love of the X-Men comics from Marvel comics since I was a very small child. My Dad gave me a X-Men comic when I was just 5. The Clan part, which I have had some of the folks down here connect with the other clan of the K variety for some odd reason, comes from our Scottish heritage. Oh, X was my Army handle as well.

  7. I have to throw my vote in for Jon & Miki. Not only have they spread good caching will across our great state and fought tirelessly against the anti-geocaching bill but they also spread that same goodwill in all their endeavors.

Just recently, for example, Camp Chemo (I hope that the spelling is right) that they undertook to spread a little joy to sick children. It is never about the smilies with these two. The only smilies they worry about are the ones on others faces.

Had it not been for Jon, myself and a couple of other cachers would not be caching today. He is a voice of reason in a crowd of unreasonable folks a lot of the time for me.

    So YAY JON & MIKI!

  8. Went caching with niece and nephew in tow today. Went a little to far to park at a cache and got stuck. Sat for two hours with no cell phone reception and alot of people passing by and not even asking if they could help.

You ever realize how many people will just let you sit there and not even ask if you need help? Try it some time.

Anyway, this guy stops by offers to help, goes home gets his truck and pulls me out. Turns out we are in the same business which was cool. I know he will probably never see this but THANKS!

There are some really good people out there.
