  1. Thank you Sir, I was thinking I always used EasyGPS but I wasn't for sure. I'll try that or basecamp. I never did like basecamp very much but I may have to learn to use it.
  2. To go along with that, I have a 60cs and a 76cx. I can't get either one of them to find the caches after I load a .gpx file. It has been a while since I've used either one of them, so I guess I just don't remember something I need to do. Can I load .gpx files to these two GPS units and use them to find caches? Both of them right now say "none found". When I take the SD card out of them the computer does not even recognize either GPS. I have Garmin communicator plug in (current) and downloaded the latest Garmin drivers file. On the 76cx it has a folder "garmin" and within that folder is a folder "GPX", which is where I put the .gpx from a PQ. Still the 76cx says "none found" when I push the "find" and "geocaches" buttons. ??????? My Garmin 450 was stolen last week so I'm trying to use one of these until I can get a new one. Help! Thanks.
  3. My Garmin 450T was stolen Thursday night in Waco (Bellmead) Texas. I am hoping that whoever stole it might try to sell it to a forum user and you might recognize it. When you power it up it has "Reward Ken" and my phone number 830-391-ABCD on it. If you run across it call me and I will reward you for your honesty. Thanks. (call the police first)
  4. My Garmin 450T was stolen Thursday night the 4th of July in Waco (Bellmead) Texas. When you power it up it says, "Reward Ken 830-my phone number". I am hoping that who ever stole it might try to sell it to a cacher and you might recognize it. If you do and call me I will reward your honesty. Call the Police first.
  5. I was thinking you could load 5000 total caches, in up to 200 files, but I looked on Garmin's website and it says 2000 caches. Did I read it wrong? I was sure 5000 was correct.
  6. I was wondering if any of you know if there is anything new on the Garmin 450 navigation pointer? When I'm in "compass" screen going to a cache, the navigation pointer sticks and will not move. I've sent the unit to Garmin and got one back that does the same thing. When I use the "map" screen to navigate to the cache it works just fine, but when I try to use the "compass" screen the red pointer sticks and will not move no matter which way I turn. Anything new on this problem. My 450 was stolen and I'm trying to decide whether to get another one or a different model. Help! Thanks.
  7. I use GSAK, and I am still unfamiliar with the *.GGZ file format. Can you share more information? How does it compare to a *.GPX? I am thinking about a new Garmin, mine was just stolen. Has Garmin ever fixed the problem with the navigation pointer sticking when you are using the "compass" screen? I have sent mine back in twice now and it still does the same thing. I can go to "map" and find the cache, but never with the "compass" screen. Anything new that you know of on that?? Thanks.
  8. You said that you hoped Garmin would fix that problem. Unlikely. Garmin rarely ever fixes anything, especially software. We have had a problem with the 450 series navigation pointer not pointing to a geocache or other waypoint for several years. They've never fixed it and probably won't.
  9. Yes, I believe you can have 200 files, which can hold a max of 5000 waypoints (caches). But, when you turn it on and go "caching" you cannot tell which file is which or which cache is in which file.
  10. Or, you could simply go to the "change active profile" and change to "recreational" profile. Try this profile, I personally like it a lot better than "Geocaching" profile. Play with it, and as another poster said go to the Garmin weikifiddi something or other and find lots of wonderful info on the Oregon series GPS. :>)
  11. Me too. I use my Garmin 450 99.9% of the time geocaching. But I do use my Motorola Atrix Android when I'm out and either don't want to power up the GPS or I just get a good quick opportunity to cache. My Android phone is very accurate, and works very well for caching. I have three apps I use. The one I use most is the geocacheing.com app that is $10.00, and I use neongeo which is about $4.00. With either of these apps you will really want to download the app "GPS Status", it is really good and will give you a radar screen to find the cache. I would hardly ever go geocaching with just my phone, but it does work very well and in some circumstances is a good choice. I always worry about getting it wet and ruin a $400++ dollar phone, but I don't worry about the weather with the Garmin 450. $10 is really not much for a good app that works, and $4.00 for neongeo is a bargain. "GPS Status" is free but they have a pro version ($3.99)that I'm going to try this weekend.
  12. I had exactly the same problem but the master reset did the trick, no more problems.
  13. Nails do NOT hurt trees. Have you people ever seen a woodpecker? Or a sapsucker? We had a beautiful Pear tree that stopped producing, my Dad put a couple of hundred nails in the tree, the next year and for years afterward we had the best pears we had ever had. I don't care what the tree huggers and environmentalist tell you, nails do not hurt trees. If it is a tree that will be harvested for wood of poles or etc, yeah, it's not a good ideal, but it still does NOT harm the tree itself.
  14. I carry long nose pliers, extra batteries, logs, containers, gloves, a towel, TP, band-aids, mirror, GOOD flashlight, UV light, my signature items, and my .45 or .380 depending on where I'm going. Also my BIG hairpin with the bent tip to get small logs out. Trail bars and a couple of bottles of water. (beer is in the cooler in the back of the truck).
  15. Markwell is right, the GSAK forum is really really good at getting answers, and Clyde is even better. Kunarion is just pretty typical of some of the people on this forum, they would rather badmouth someone or something without knowing anything about it, it seems like Clyde just proved that. It happens here a lot. This is probably the worst forum I've ever been on and since I tell things like they are I've been kicked off a couple of times. That doesn't bother me any. I like GSAK, their support on the forum is 1000 times more friendly than this forum ever was and the people on the GSAK forum actually know what they are talking about, not like the likes of kunarion, or whatever that name is. Ha ha, here we go again, I'll wait for the email to get booted.
  16. Another vote for enloops. My 450 will go all day++ with the enloops or the powerex 2700 AA. I had some NiZn and I threw them away. They just didn't work very well at all.
  17. A scorpion. And yes, it stung me. Hurt somewhat, it did it did!!
  18. I would sign the petition, against it. 528 feet or more between caches is fine with me.
  19. Did you call Keith and ask him if he has any left?
  20. You're kidding right? Smart phones will NEVER replace a stand alone GPS receiver. Write that down. Save it. I'll remind you of it in 10 or 15 years. In case you are interested, I own and use both. My stand alone is light years ahead of the smart phone. Yes, I have one of the very latest smart phones.
  21. Why do you think it would work any different there than it would in the US? It still uses satellites to locate your position, and if you have a computer to download caches, you are all set. We just got back from Scotland, Ireland, England, and Germany. Works just like it did here.
  22. You're kidding right? You are a premium member and you don't do or want to see PM caches?? You're trolling right? Good grief!! Get a life, or better yet, a hobby.
  23. I'm upgraded to windows 7 - 64 and firefox also. No problems seeing a 76Cx and a 450T, but I did reinstall all my garmin software on the new windows. I wonder what the diff is?
  24. Kinda on the same topic, is there an app where you can just manually input lat/lon and navigate to it? You know like if you have a road crossing or a bridge, etc that you need to find and have the lat/lon coordinates, is there a good app to do that?
