  1. I agree and caches along a route is a great feature too. When you know of multiple trips that you will be going on you can do multiple routes/queries. One for each trip. I have recently become a premium member and I really enjoy it. I also enjoy the fact that I am "giving back" but thats another thread all together.
  2. You should be able to check the checkboxes at the left and click the button that says "Download Waypoints".
  3. Very well said, and greetings from another Maine Cacher.
  4. Never know, it may actually convert cachers to gamers AS WELL as gamers to cachers.
  5. Some caches you need beta testors to make sure it works as intended. If they worked through the cache from scratch, they are FTF. If they co-hid the cache, they didnt' really find it like a regular cacher. They are not FTF and should not log it until the real FTF comes along as a courtesy. Oh I am not referring to co-hiders or people given a free find. This would be a beta test group of friends sharing the same info that would be posted on here to make sure the cache works as it should. I don't see a point in telling people "Oh its under that rock over there" and letting them take credit. Personally I would be bored if caches came that easily.
  6. These are all good ideas. What if you recognize both the FTF after going public and the FTF in your "Beta Testers" group of friends? Would this be a little more acceptable?
  7. What is the general opinion on a group of friends sharing cache info before its actually published? If I hide a cache am I allowed to share it with a handfull of friends before going totally public and between them is the FTF still valid for logging purposes?
  8. hehehe This thread is cracking me up. Seriously, it would be a cool cache idea but it would be a hard cache to find inexpensive stuff for. I could do a relatively large container, large enough for any gaming books people may want to get rid of. I have an early edition of Werewolf - The Apocalypse that I never use. I also have Call Of Cthulu but keeping that one. hehehe I have not decided on Ars Magica.
  9. 2d10 gp, +1 bug spray, and an Ammo Can of Holding FTF earns an extra 250XP LOL YES!!! Someone who knows true geek speak.
  10. Was wondering if many cachers are also table top or computer gamers. You know...of the fantasy sort. Ok....I will say it.....DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS GEEKS??? I was wondering if a cache devoted to gaming would be feasable or more or less ignored. What kinda swag would be best for that? Any ideas?
  11. Anyone who knowingly leaves a health hazard for someone to encounter and then claims it's the victims fault for picking is up is only deluding themselves that they have no responsibility in the matter. I don't have the allergy, but one someone very dear to me does. You DO NOT have to eat the peanut butter. The allergy can be triggered merely by contacting a microscopic portion of the oils. This is a potentially deadly allergy, so please take it seriously. If you have to use a food jar, try one of the new plastic mayo jars. They're bigger, anyway. What about someone who is alergic to mayo or eggs? They should be careful not to eat eggs or egg products. lol good point. I guess my point was that we can not protect everyone all of the time. You can try to warn about potential risks that may effect select individuals but ultimately we all make choices regarding our actions. I am diabetic. I make choices on when I can allow myself to indulge a little. If I am at a social gathering and someone brings cake, brownies or ice cream (my weakness) I am not going to blame that individual for my blood sugar to spike.

    Cyndi Lauper??? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
  15. Edit to add: This is in situations with a private ferry, similar to the Chattanooga Water Taxi. Public ferries are usually considered to be different. If an island has regularly scheduled ferry service then the ferry is really no different than a toll road. The money you pay may go to a private company, but that company is usually under contract with the government so it's considered a public fee not a private fee. Also, an island with scheduled ferry service usually has people living on it. These caches should have normal terrain ratings, ignoring the fact they're on an island. Thank you. That does clear it up ALOT. This is a public island that >I< am referring to with quite a population and a public ferry. Like you said, no more costly than taking a cab somewhere. The OP's may be a different situation. I will question it no more.
  16. So why so many responses stating that it should have a terrain rating of 5 when the OP already said that it will be? Sorry, as I am new to the game, I am always trying to learn more about it. As I will be hiding a cache soon on an island as well I am curious about the rating system. Never was my intention to start any debate.
  17. Plenty of places have public ferries. I don't see how that would warrant a 5 for terrain. That should be reserved for mountain climbing and such activities. Now if it was an island where you had to have your own boat that would be different. I just know i recently did a cache on an island where I grew up. There is a ferry that goes out all day long. I think terrain was rated at like 2. If I had seen that it said 5 and found it easy to get to by just taking a ferry out I probably would have expected a lot more challenge. However, if the reason for the ratings is in the cache description I suppose thats cool though.
  18. Umm a 5 just because its on an island? Thats kinda high unless there are no public ferries to the island. Just being on an island alone shouldn't warrant a 5 for terrain in my opinion. There are island caches that are rated 1-2. Also, what kind of puzzles are you looking for?
  19. And with the Garmin Maine, you CAN get there from here! Oh and we don't all talk like the mainers in a bad made for tv King movie.

Sorry all for the finger joke. It was kinda lame, I know.

    TB ideas

lol Just morbid enough to catch my interest. lol just kidding. I guess thats one way of "giving the finger" eh?
  22. So what if it took you a while to find this one? How does anyone else's find, bogus or authentic, take away from the FUN you had with your experience? My suggestion would be for YOU to MYOB... He has every right to report it to the cache owner and let the cache owner decide what to do about the situation. If the owner decides to do nothing, then move on.... Actually, the OP was asking for opinions. When you ask for opinions you are inviting people into your business. Yes the OP has the right to report it to the cache owner. Maybe it will mean something to the owner, maybe it won't. Maybe it would annoy me, but then again I do not analyze what others do but thats my choice. In other words, as long as people aren't destroying or stealing caches, I personally don't care what others do. However, my main point is that the OP was asking how others would feel and what they should do. You ask, you get answers.....plain and simple.
  23. The thing that draws me to this game is how (generally) people seem to look out for each other and help each other out. I have yet to hide a cache but hoping to work on one soon. I would be grateful if somebody went out of their way to fix my cache if need be between me doing maintenance checks. As long as they are not changing the size, location, or style in any way. I think some people are just defensive and think it is an insult to their caching upkeep ability. It is just like how some parents get all defensive if you correct their children. I don't have an issue with that either. As long as it does not go against my parenting beliefs.
  24. i am not normally a naysayer, but this frankly is a little strange looking. are you sure this is how your niece sees herself? please forgive my frankness. rsg My niece is a very cute 12 year old girl. She looks nothing like a monkey nor thinks she looks like one either. The name comes from when she was little and climbing and hang on everything, not her looks. She still likes the name and loves all the cartoonish monkey type things out there. Do you only wear Red Shoes? I'm betting that is a no, nor do you see yourself as a shoe. LOL Very good point there.
  25. I never said it was about 'just the food', so I don't know why you put that in quotes. Actually for me its just the food....
