  1. For those of you that enjoy these types of caches, what makes them a good 'letterbox hybrid?' I haven't found many as a lot of places where I've cached unfortunately don't have them. I do go get them when I have the chance and I have enjoyed them. So I was thinking about putting one out in my area. Just wondering from the masses what people think would be a good way to do one. Obviously a stamp, ink, logbook etc. Would you just start it with that? I'm not too good with creating things, so I'd likely have to go to an arts store and find a nice stamp. What about any 'rules' on the cache? No trading? TBs only etc.? Go with a bigger cache? Smaller lock and lock? Thanks for any thoughts and ideas.

    TB ideas

I have a couple of unactivated TBs/slugs that I want to release and get them moving before the summer ends. However, I can't ever seem to come up with any good ideas. So I come to the caching community in hopes of some help. I don't want to just slap a tag on a matchbox car and let it fly. I need to come up with some ideas on goals and such. For example, I travel to Montreal every summer. As long as I make the trip again this year, I'll be looking to activate one up there, attach it to something "Montreal" with the goal for it to travel around Quebec/Canada and then return home to me in my town. Outside of that, I can't think of anything. Anyone have any good ideas?
  3. test again? (I did what it said and not sure it will work...) EDIT: No dough. Help.
  4. testing sig, but it doesn't seem to work.
  5. I'm a big fan of lock and locks, personally. But I have noticed these in Wal-Mart and thought about them.
  6. Did some searching and found what I needed to do. This topic can be all closed if needed.
  7. This is highly annoying. Is there any way of having the forum threads go back to how they used to be? When I click on a topic now, I get the main message then a "tree" so to speak of all the replies. Then I have to click on each one to read it. That makes it way more confusing and annoying. Is there a way that a user can switch back to having all the responses be like they used to?
  8. I love puzzle caches. I just love them more if I actually have to do the work in the field and not do the work on the computer. I usually skip puzzle caches like that, which is why I don't have a ton of puzzle cache finds.
  9. The Yankees left after the 1998 season and moved to Staten Island. Detroit has a contract with Oneonta through 2010. The new owners (as long as they are approved) say they want to make it work, so hopefully they can. The park has been changed a bit over the past couple of years, which is nice. Sat at Cooperstown for the Hall game, Sunday home 6 p.m. Any chance you are thinking of wandering up to the event, Brian? I have heard rumors that they may stop the Hall of Fame game in the future, is this true? (Much like most teams have eliminated Old-Timers Day except for the Yankees). If so what a shame. Won't be able to make the event but will definitely have to see the Hall one of these days.....(if not the Hall game if it still exists ) While it's interesting to have minor league teams in the NY area, you guys were kind of rooked with that move to Staten Island.....it and the Brooklyn Cyclones for the Mets was part of the deal with then Mayor Guiliani that has also led to new stadiums for both NY teams....I think we have a lot more things in society that we need the $millions for than knocking down/rebuilding stadiums that aren't really that old in my view (and to me replacing even the somewhat "modern" Yankee Stadium is like replacing Wrigley or Fenway. OK enough off-topic, move on The final Hall of Fame Game was "played" this year. I use quotes because it got rained out. There is a grassroots effort to save it (and there were meeting this weekend in Cooperstown), but even if MLB would agree to it, I don't see the players association agreeing to bring it back. And yes, the area was rooked by the Yankees, unfortunately. But, the Tigers have been good. Granderson was here. And a bunch from the 2005 O-Tigers team are now in the majors and doing very well. So it's nice to see them roll through. With the Yankees, they probably wouldn't anymore as we all know minor leaguers just get traded by them now! And if you are a baseball person -- get to the Hall. It's an amazing place.

  11. Just in case there are cachers in this area or within driving distance who are interested, some of us are putting on a picnic event this Saturday beginning at noon. We'd love to see more cachers attend and put some faces to names! Event located: Hall of Fame Picnic Hope to see some of you there!
  12. It seems to me that it's all good if people are backed up or personal things get in the way, but if one paid for an order and for people to not respond -- on an order from May 1 -- is just absolute bad business, no matter how you look at it. I usually give people the benefit of the doubt, especially when it's a one-person operation and doing something such as this. But as someone who does some small money-making things, once you get the coin, you have to get the product to people ASAP -- not that long later. Pending how you paid, I'd look to get your $$ back and go elsewhere.
  13. I've got a crisp new fiver that says no. Who's in? Depends on if you'll give me 5-to-1 odds?
  14. Thanks for the note, Kevin. I had one of them marked down, but I'll be looking into the others, too. The guys I'm going with aren't against caching by any stretch, but likely wouldn't want to make the whole trip about it. So I'm kind of trying to plan a couple around each place we're going etc., which would then work it all together. Hopefully anyway! I did see the one outside the stadium, which is cool. I look forward to that one. I'm hoping to get a bunch of caches this weekend, but I'll have to see how it all works out! Anyone else with more ideas?
  15. Hoping a Philly person can help me out. A few of us might be heading to Philly this weekend. The main objective is catching a Phils game, but we're going to walk around, see some sights and all that good stuff. I figured, too, if I'm there, might as well look for some good caches. Basically I'd be looking for some caches in center city, anywhere near City Hall, the art museum, liberty bell etc. If there's any near Citizen's Bank Park or the Linc, that'd be cool too, as we might be able to land them one day when there. We'll likely visit the one marketplace near City Hall, too. The others going aren't really cachers, but have been with me and don't mind. However, I don't want to make the day just about caching. Thanks for any tips, ideas and suggestions on good caches! (Looks like a bunch of virtuals, too, so I'll be trying to get those).
  16. My best is 26 and to be honest, that day was pretty miserable. Not because of the amount, but because we chose a day that was in the mid-90s, humid and, eventually, two thunderstorms. That made it so we couldn't do several of the ones we really wanted to do because none of us were in the mood to do 1-2 mile hikes in that weather. That being said, I'm past the initial super-crazy stage of this game (I started in March) and now look more for an area where I can grab a bunch of good ones in a day. With the price of gas, I likely won't go caching without a plan of where I want to go and at least knowing I can grab a handful of them, so I like to try and get 5-6 or more in a trip, unless it's close to me. I would do the 26 or more in a day if the weather was better. I think we easily would have had a better time if it didn't feel like it was 150 degrees. But I also now realize that going on a 15-hour caching binge is hard to do, so I'll plan better.
  17. You can find a way to sign the log. Or leave a piece of paper with your signature and post a note with your log. The cache is IN your hands. There's ways to log.
  18. Wow. Now THAT'S a trail to follow! You could easily get 50+ in a day there, eh?
  19. I guess I just don't get the saturation thing. So it's OK for 200 caches to be in a 14-mile radius, just 180 of them can't be placed by one person? What's the difference? If people like his caches and that's how he enjoys playing the game, who cares? Like some of the other numbers posted in here showing 1,500+ or whatever in a 14-mile radius. It's fine because there are hundreds of people doing them instead of one or two? Seems silly to me. Saturation is saturation. It either is or it isn't. Shouldn't matter how many people are actually placing them. Especially if they are be taken care of.
  20. Doh! I actually remembered to sign in and it worked. Cool deal. Thanks to the King Cheese for all the hard work!
  21. I get the same thing I've been getting for a couple of weeks with everything looking all wack, still. I'll try later tonight.
  22. If your caches are MOC, then you can see who views the cache page and how many times. Also don't underestimate the relentlessness of a committed cache maggot. Well now that's interesting. Almost worth going MOC just to see that! And if someone is that committed to blasting a cache, then they really need to get a life, that's for sure.
  23. Just curious, but how do you know your cache listings are being viewed more than 40 times over the past couple weeks and how do you know it's a vandal? I didn't think there were ways of tracking views and such. That being said, I can't imagine someone would go through the hassle of joining, paying for a membership (and having to give personal info), doing the research on certain caches and then going out and vandalizing a cache. Seems like an awful lot of time and such just to be a vandal. Wouldn't one just be able to sign up for a free account, get some coords and do what they want?
  24. Like everything in life, hobbies change and evolve. As someone who just started this game in March, I wish I had been around it years ago. I would have loved to have seen the evolution of the game as it went on. When something grows -- and does so in a rapid-like way -- it takes different paths. Of the finds I've made, I've had hard climbs, long hikes, bushwacking, urban micros or even the film canister in the woods where you are left scratching your head wondering why they didn't put an ammo can there instead. I've liked pretty much every cache I've found. What goes further here is how one plays the game. Do you trade? Do you hunt to sign the log and move on? Do you do it for numbers? Those who like the rare find, but to get it you have to take a five-mile hike, I'm sure they'll feel the game has changed for the worse. Others might feel it's good for the game. Others might not care. Personally, I like how it is. I don't trade, rarely carry much by way of "swag," but do like to swap out my sig items for other sig items. I also like the TB/coin game. Therefore, a lot of times it doesn't matter the size of the canister or where it is. I like to usually take each cache for what it is. I don't think the game has passed you by. It's easy enough to find what you want and avoid what you don't like. The game has evolved and as long as it still gets you off the couch and away from the computer, it did what you had liked in the first place! Keep enjoying the game!
  25. Why would it matter to you why someone does this? If that's what they want to do, so be it.
