  1. There is now a new in Southwestern Ontario that was announced on November 1 at our first event! SWOG.ca
  2. I have problems on the list of caches that I have not found... I can't get past the first page. If I click on any of the other pages it appears that it is running script to get to the next page but then comes back to the first page. All the correct boxes in the browser configuration are checked.... I have a Blackberry Curve through Virgin Mobile and have contacted them but nothing they say to do fixes the issue. I am beginning to think that it must be a gc.com issue because I don't have this difficulty on other websites. It is disappointing to say the least!
  3. Sorry to not offer any assistance but I am having similar difficulties with my Blackberry Curve. When I am at the page of caches that I have not found I can not get to anything but the first page.... if I click on any other page number it appears as if it is going to work but always goes back to page 1. I says that there is a javascript error. Although javascript runs fine for other websites. I have tried all kinds of variations in the options of my phone but nothing seems to work. I use a BB curve 8330 through Virgin Mobile. And I have contacted Virgin but they can't seem to help me with anything... although I am waiting to hear back from them but I am not holding my breath that it will work this time.

    Scout Cache

Scout owned land is not only private property, but geocaches are not allowed as a matter of policy in Canada, and the US. Well, let me clarify, geocaches that are published on GC.Com aren't allowed, nor are non Scouts. I find it laughable that Scouts are now promoting "geoscouting", partnered with Groundspeak, yet geocaches, and cachers are not welcome on their land. Perhaps maybe all Scout related caches, or caches placed by a Scout should only be allowed on Scout property. There are caches on Scout property in Ontario. I can think of two I have done that were placed by scouters on scout property and published on gc.com.
  5. I am just learning how to use the GSAK program and the fizzy browser macro... so my question: How do I get the display to only show my found (green squares)? I can't get it to run without showing the orange squares (unfound). And how do I get it to be on my profile? Just copy the code by right clicking on the page? that seemed to work but I was wondering if there was a different way. Thanks! HA! Nevermind... I figured it out! Sounds like a good topic for a future SWOG event Yes, yes it does.... currently writing that on my "to-do" list!
  6. I am confused now... easily done lately but confused none-the-less... The youngest province in Confederation is NFLD.... but I don't see how that fits the question and the answers given. I think I am lost.... UGH! Will watch to learn

  8. Great! Thanks! to both of you. I actually figured out how to get the numbers of current active caches in Canada.... 74 176 is what I got. Interesting number for the number of accounts created. I included that in the email that I sent to the guy that interviewed me. I also included that I was not able to get some of the numbers that he asked for. And by the way... it was Outdoor Canada that interviewed me. I will let you know when the article is suppose to run. He said that he would let me know. Thanks again!
  9. HI folks, Does anyone know how I can find out how many caches there are in Canada and how many there were in Canada in 2001 at this time? And how I would find out how many cachers there are registered with geocaching.com now? And is there a way of knowing how many cachers in Canada? Or do you know the answers? I was interviewed today for a geocaching story that is going to run in an outdoor canada magazine (i forget the name right now, will look it up and add it later) and did not know those answers but said I would find out today. Thanks!
  10. Cachers that you may want to contact could include myself, Luc & Sweety or JungleJ, they are all active and we've done educational presentations for various groups as well. If you have particular questions, feel free to post them, it might help out another newbie cacher(s) elsewhere. For a more local flavour, you may also want to look at the ontario geocaching association, or central ontario geocachers websites and forums. The website link for the Ontario Geocaching Association (OGA) is http://www.ontgeocaching.com/
  11. I feel left out.... What about me? I went caching with you one time too (pout)
  12. At the rate I am seeing caches published around here, I can't imagine it getting any busier. Our reviewers are incredibly busy and responsive. If you are waiting a couple of days, use the time to go out and find a few more caches and get some ideas on how others hide their caches. True, I said that when I brought on a second reviewer for Ontario, then another as I stepped off a little and now there are three full time reviewers for Ontario not including myself. I must say they do a great job as I do watch the Ontario queue. In fact, as far as I am concerned, then entire Canadian review team does a great job, things are much busier then when I reviewed the country I agree Cache-Tech! The reviewers in Ontario are fabulous publishing quickly and helping out if you have a question... of which I can say, I have had a few that CD has been great in helping me with the answers. I think that they all do a great job! Thanks to all the reviewers!!
  13. opps I missed including that step! I agree with NP. Definitely contact Cache-tech or CacheDrone and see if they could contact the cache owner (CO) on your behalf (or if there is a way for you to contact the CO) to see if he is going to gather the cache up or make the necessary changes. THEN if he is not going to do anything, someone should pick it up and re-use the stuff or toss it out. Thanks NP
  14. I would think that since it is almost a year old and that it was an unresolved issue that the CO never bother to rectify that it would now be conside geo-garbage and should be collected. If you are able to bike ride past it again I would pick it up and maybe use it to rehide as your own cache or toss in the garbage.

    Useless Hints

Today I found a cache that had the following hint: "It sticks to the roof of your mouth". Well I guessed that refers to peanut butter but it had nothing to do with where the cache was hidden (under a bale of straw) and provided no assistance in finding the location. I figured it was what the container was, of course. Then when I did find the cache it was not even a peanut butter jar.
  19. In Ontario (Canada) Walmart and Michael's sell them but we can also buy them in bulk from the dollar stores.

    Spider ID Help

It is an Orb Weaver Spider. I know this because quite a few years ago I found one living in the tall grass between my property and the field beside us. I had to search to find out what it is, like you. They are there every year. I let them stay, spiders are our friends, but I stay away from them... they are interesting creatures and I am not afraid of them but they are soooo big they kinda give me the creeps!!!
  21. I agree... most definitely. It would be great to find more interesting stuff like this in a cache besides the plastic toys. I had the benefit of being the first cacher to find a similar piece of art work in a cache I visited last spring. It was a rock with a racoon painted on it. I have it sitting on my desk in my office!
  22. Or you could also use one of the many translation programs found on the internet. Just copy and past the sentences into the translator and it will tell you what it says in English or whatever language you prefer. I did this a few times when I was traveling from Ontario, Canada (where I live) through Quebec, Canada (which is a french province) to New Brunswick, Canada this summer. And for a few caches that were in New Brunswick (as a large part of the population there is also french and wrote their caches in french). It worked out great. Sometimes not all the words were translated but enough was done so that I could understand the point.

    Useless Hints

Ugh - she did it again! Still, a nice lady, so no telling her that I wrote this! If she is a newbie and is a nice lady maybe she would appreciate a helpful hint from you about how to do proper hints. New cachers will not learn the correct way to do things if we don't help them when they are new. When they are not so new it will be harder to make suggestions and then they will already be set in their ways on how to do things. And worse yet! They will give their assistance to newbies and the wrong trend then continues!!!
