  1. I was recently contacted by a new geocacher who is also a ham radio operator. He asked if I could come to their monthly ham radio meeting to teach them about geocaching. Our local geocaching group GEOSET has been discussing having an introduction to GPS technology event to teach new geocachers how to better use their GPS units to find and hide caches. This sounded like a perfect opportunity for that, so I submitted the event and it got turned down as not meeting the guidelines because "Event caches are gatherings that are open to all geocachers and which are organized by geocachers" I think that the event meets this guideline for several reasons. The first person who contacted me is a geocacher and contacted me through GC.com web site. The event was then planned by geocachers in our local geocaching forums. The event is being held for any and all geocachers and prospective geocachers to teach them about geocaching. Just because part of the group are also ham radio operators, and the event is being held in the same building as their event should not disqualify this as an opportunity to have what should be the quintessential geocaching event. In fact we are not meeting with the ham radio club during their meeting, but after their business meeting is concluded.
  2. I upgraded from Firefox 1.0.7 to 1.5 and all is well now.
  3. I don't think that absolute prohibition is necessary. Some people use common sense and others don't, doh! That is one reason for online logs, people can log their opinion of the cache. If they feel strongly enough they can post a CNA log or if they lack testicular fortitude they can contact an approver privately about their concerns. Why prohibit the potential for creativity when it can be done safely? For example, I have a cache that is a real electrical box that I purchased and gutted. I installed it with conduit leading into the ground to make it look real, and added stickers warning of high voltage and authorized personnel only - a previous cache was stollen, this one has not been The cache is locked with a combination lock, which can only be opened by a series of questions that can be answered from objects in the park. The cache is attached to a brick wall in a park, and has permission from the park maintenance manager. There are already means for bad caches to be archived, let's allow the good ones to live.

    Ga Geocoin Icon

Yep, they are both working for me now too.

    Ga Geocoin Icon

The icon image for the Georgia geocoin shows as a broken link on the inventory page, but shows correctly on individual coin pages. It appears to be a problem with capital letters in the url on the inventory page, here are examples of the links: Broken link on inventory page: http://www.geocaching.com/images/WptTypes/168.jpg Good link on coin page: http://www.geocaching.com/images/wpttypes/168.jpg
  6. There is a problem with the picture galleries. Thumbnails images appear, but clicking the thumbnails to open the full image generates an error. This happens if you click on image links at logs or in the galleries.
  7. I like Markwell's proposal for the most part, and hope that something like it will eventually be implimented. The one thing that I would tweek is the absolute 10% qualification. I think that there should be a cap on the most that any user could vote for, something between 50-100 caches tops. People already abuse the system (IMHO) by logging caches that they have never found, the so called "pocket caches", archived caches, armchair caches, and the list goes on.
  8. Still waiting in Tennessee...
  9. Got mine today! Look great, and the activation codes are right on the coin packaging. Thanks for taking the time to label the coins!

    Server Error

Huh?? I don't get a confirmation button, only server error text as follows. Refreshing does not help.

    Server Error

For several days now I have been getting server errors when I try to mark a travel bug as missing.

    Icon Swap Meets

I really like the new log type suggestion. It really is annoying to see so many logs for TB action on event listings. I'll toss in my vote for "spotted" because it is more inclusive of what often happens. Some people don't even touch or fondle the travel bugs, rather are given a list of numbers by someone at an event - whatever floats their boat I guess.
  13. Whoo Hooo!!! Joe and I are sitting in the airport after a very successful holiday cache run. Not only did we find a cache that hasn't been found in four years, but we were FTF on two caches that are two months old. Where's Waldo?
  14. Maybe I missed it, but I haven't seen a date posted for an expected delivery/ship date. Any ideas?
  15. Bravo! Thank you for all of the excellent upgrades!

    Coin Icons

Groundspeak have had the gif files for the EU icon for weeks now and haven't updated it on the site yet. Very frustrating. Maybe there is a problem that they need to address. There was a problem with the Tennessee icon, it should have been showing almost a month ago but just got fixed a couple days ago. Multiple emails didn't help, but when I posted in the gc.com forum Jeremy found and fixed a problem.
  17. It's a trade off. Many people are willing to pay a little more for the coin to be trackable and have a unique icon. The coins looks nice, I ordered and paid for 3 through paypal.
  18. You can get an order of 100 1.25" coins in four color without tracking number for under $350 from these people.

    A Missing Link?

I don't think he is talking about wrapping anything. If I understand correctly, there will be a new single stacked coin icon that will show if there is more than one type of geocoin in an event, effectively reducing the total number of icons showing.

    A Missing Link?

    Awesome, thanks!!

    A Missing Link?

Many new geocoin icons are popping up everyday, and we have been waiting on the Tennessee for a while now. The image is in the system, but not showing on the coins. Is there a link missing somewhere? TN Geocoin Icon

    Coin Icons

Hummm! The TN coin graphic is in the system, but not tied to the link yet? Here is the link
  23. It would be nice if we knew which coin mints were used for the various coins. TN coins were done at KVCoins

    Coin Icons

It looks like most of the trackable coin icons are up now, hopefully Tennessee isn't far behind!!
  25. If it was a high dollar auction you might ask for geocaching credentials, username etc. If they didn't rely or it turned out that they were a new or non-geocacher then you might press for how the coin was obtained. It wouldn't hurt if legitimate geocachers who sell the coins published their GC nic in the listing so that people could quickly verify legit cachers.
