  1. Geez! Come on people. From the posts I read on these forums, it seems there are alot of angry, mean-spirited, self-righteous individuals out there. There is no hope for world peace when people display such cruel, rude, opinionated remarks about one-another about the most trivial things online. The way some of you talk in these forums, I'd hate to encounter you in person. You come across as bullies who like to belittle and berate---Like it's a fun thing to do to others. I envision some of you kicking puppies for kicks. Shame on everyone of you who feels a need to put down others in a public forum. Read this: YOU TELL ON YOURSELF (Author Unknown) You tell on yourself by the friends you seek, By the very manner in which you speak, By the way you employ your leisure time, By the use you make of dollar and dime. You tell what you are by the things you wear, by the spirit in which your burdens bear, By the kind of things at which you laugh, By the records you play on the phonograph, You tell what you are by the way you walk, By the things of which you delight to talk, By the manner in which you bear defeat, By so simple a thing as how you eat. By the books you choose from the well-filled shelf: In these ways and more, you tell on yourself... ...and it ain't pretty
  2. Here's one U/W cache: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=15323 and here's one we own (closed for the winter): http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=29144 It's U/W, but doesn't require SCUBA. Let us start off by saying that we think U/W caches are great. We'll hunt 'em and we'll place atleast one more this year (probably a multi with the final cache on dry land). However, in our experience, U/W caches are very high maintenance. The Swimmer's Cache requires weekly visits to keep from being encrusted with algae/bryozoans/mussels/barnacles. Another thing to consider is the fact that most ''good'' or ''secret'' dive spots are NOT all that secret. We've been diving for over 32 years and have thoroughly covered most of the California coast from San Diego to Monterey, as well as large portions of Baja, Mexico, and Maui & The Big Island, Hawaii. Hundreds of divers each weekend hit just about every inch of ocean bottom in popular areas. So an U/W cache (or tag with coords for a land-based cache) would be discovered pretty quickly by non-geocacing/non-internet savy divers and snatched-up as ''diver's treasure''. Then there's the huge storm surges that turn over whole boulders at depth. The ocean is a very dymamic environment, and as cool of an idea as it seems, it is not an easy place to control. We're not trying to discourage you, but want to help you realize a bit what you're getting yourself into. If your caches last very long and get alot of visitors, GREAT! We'll try to be one of the FTFs! Just be prepared for a tough go of it. ;~)
  3. Greetings from SoCal!!! We have a plea for help: Does anyone up there know this cacher? *Profile for DCgeotracker *Member since December, 2002 *Last visit: 3/2/2003 *Caches Found/Hidden: 20/1 *Travel Bugs Owned/Found: 4/0 Benchmarks Found: 0 They apparently took our Pennsylvania Police TB -- http://www.geocaching.com/track/track_detail.asp?ID=21239 -- from Oka Slalom on Feb. 16th, posted the cache find on the 17th., not mentioning the TB, nor logging it on the TB page. We've tried to communicate with them via polite email, with no reply. Can anyone help in getting their attention?

  5. Only two of us over a year ago to this one: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=11534 (Agent BOXCAR--Resupply) Only one to find this one: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=15323 (Boomer's) Boomer's could be gone after the owner waited 3 months to check on it and couldn't find it. We may try for it again soon to verify one way or another. A lot of non-geocaching divers hit that area and one may have found it and took it home as ''diver's treasure'' [This message was edited by Kevin & Susan on February 26, 2003 at 07:30 PM.] [This message was edited by Kevin & Susan on February 26, 2003 at 07:33 PM.]
  6. Only important when you get $1000 for it...;~)
  7. Here's just a few good, fairly easy caches very close to the Pomona Fairplex fair grounds. Just put in this zipcode and pick and choose: 91750. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=2912 http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=7880 http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=39608 http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=10654 http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=21424 [This message was edited by Kevin & Susan on February 21, 2003 at 01:39 PM. 8. A lot of people have asked me about the money I spend chasing geocaches. I've been chasing all over the countryside long before geocaching ever existed, for the adventure. The caching just ADDS to all my journeys. Something EXTRA to do while exploring our world!
  9. This was the only one we're aware of, and it's supposedly MIA: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=15323 . Herer's one of ours that will be back online soon, but it doesn't require SCUBA: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=29144 . U/W caches are generally high maintenance due to living organisms encrusting them, tidal & storm action wrecking havoc, and it's crowded down there!--Lots of non-geocaching, non-computer savy divers hit all the good spots and would quickly find and grab a physical cache as ''diver's treasure'' (probably what happened to Boomer's). We're actually considering a multi-cache where the coords to a land-based cache would be a tag you had to SCUBA dive to get.
  10. I suspect the word ''locate'' was probably used in that sentence to mean ''place'', as in ''We will permit you to locate your cache in this park''. Newspeople often mis-quote or improperly paraphrase their sources. Best to contact the source directly for clarification.
  11. Someone already started a thread on it. Sorry! Hey! It's Late. What can I say?
  12. Nevermind...I see someone already posted about it... [This message was edited by Kevin & Susan on February 12, 2003 at 12:49 AM.]
  13. We enjoy puzzle caches. That said--You mentioned each puzzle waypoint might be sending you many miles across town in a possible criss-cross to multiple corners of SD County. That would probably make it a SD-area cachers ONLY cache, as someone from out of town wouldn't want to spend possibly a whole day (or more?) trying to find all the waypoints for one cache when they could visit as many points of interest with a cache find at each. Just thought we'd throw that into the pot.
  14. Martin: Guess i'll have to go do all your caches now! HA! Went riding Sunday with a buddy at Aliso/Woods Canyon and had brought printouts for all your caches in the SJC area, but never got around to going that far south. I figured a weekday would be better anyway, after seeing the crowds at the park. The West LA cache will have to wait awhile. Rich: You can do whatever you want with our monkeys. Regarding a Geo-website: The OC Geocachers Yahoo page has seemed to die out, apparently due to apathy. Maybe a more elaborate and SoCal-generic site, rather than OC, would get more activity. ***Rambling on... Right now i'm frazzled because I swore to myself on January 1st i'd tone down this addiction and catch up on other interests and responsibilities. But every day somebody keeps tempting and taunting me with a new cache I just gotta go find. Grrr... And sometimes there's several in opposite directions of the compass. Double grrr... And sometimes I'll go do a new one somewhere, and be planning to go the other direction the next day, only to see another new one pop up back where I was the day before. Grrrrrr..... You know what happens when you tease a dog too much? Hehehe... Kev :~)
  15. Martin, What's the ransom for K&S monkey #7? Can you provide ''Proof of Life''? Hehehe... Kev :~)
  16. Charlie, The Ventura-area cachers are quite good at this game. I've made a few ''treks'' out that way and am very impressed. Wildwood Park, alone, has a good 10-plus caches in it i'd like to do all in one day. ***Changing the subject*** What I want to know is why only two Finds and a few No Finds on Agent BOXCAR, Resupply cache [ http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=11534 ] in the 13+ months of its existence???
  17. Hmmm... We hope this wasn't one of the ''game'' pieces we found at Mugu Peak (GC9BD7)cache last November 15th. A small magnet with the geocaching logo on it. If it was, then ''Oops!''
  18. Yeah. Underwater caches are dumb... Hehehe. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=29144
  19. We rarely find anything worth keeping in a cache, but still trade just to move things around to other caches. It's fun to discover one of your own trades months later in a far-off cache and then try to trace the logs as to where it's been.
  20. Finding the main cache is easy on this one: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=41350 . But it requires finding multiple locations afterwards for clues to puzzles, trivia, and math & physics word problems to arrive at the combo for the lock.
  21. We wanted to thank all you River City Geocaching Society members for being so kind and friendly to us at your pizza thingy tonight. And thank-you for the nice pins! Kevin & Susan :~)
  22. Why the heck do people talk so up-tight, close-minded, and opinionated on these forums? It's truly sad. Virtuals are just another ''flavor'' of geocaching. Properly set up and executed, they bring you to really cool places that you would never know about otherwise. So you don't own a digital camera---most film processors will burn your film pictures onto a CD for you. Many locationless caches are cool simply because it OPENS your eyes to the world around you a bit more. Log a Lion---Now everywhere you go, you notice cool lion sculptures. How Vane is It?---Now you start noticing unusual windvanes all over town. Torpedos Away---You locate a very interesting memorial to those who served aboard subs and are now on ''eternal patrol''. Just have fun with it. Life is too short to bicker on what is legitimate ''fun'' and what is not. One man's junk is another man's treasure. If you don't have something contructive to say... Ok. That's enough rant... Just everybody shut up and go find a cache of your liking
