  1. Howdy folks. I'm a new owner of a cache made from PVC pipe fittings that has 3 threaded openings in it. I Glued 2 of the 3 openings in the hopes of keeping the inside of the cache dry. (Moisture has been an issue in the past) I tried Teflon Tape on the 3rd opening that I obviously need to keep free so that folks can open the container. My goal is to keep that opening easy to remove while also adding a measure of water tightness to it. The teflon tape proved to be messy after I threaded the cap/plug back open. Regular pipe dope stuff would also be messy on the sleeves or arms of anyone reaching into the container when opened. Leaving the threads dry on that opening can sometimes make it very difficult to open if someone were to tighten it too firmly. I just ran into that problem today, and I was the last one to have closed it! It's not practical to recommend bringing a channel lock pliers to open the cache container, so does anyone have any recommendations as to the best way to seal that opening while still keeping it free to move? Thanks for the help.
  2. A 'soft DNF' is a neat idea. I Log ALL of my visits no matter what. As a new Cache Owner I hope that everyone who looks for it will do the same. (log ALL visits) I restored my cache from one that got to be archived. It was archived basically because someone posted a 'Should Be Archived' log cause they couldn't find it. (Well, that and the fact that the original owner could not be found anywhere....) Anyhow, I took it upon myself to confirm the cache was indeed where it belonged. After Archival, I took ownership of it. If folks post a DNF log for my cache, I will go to make sure that all is OK with it.
  3. I like the Kodak FILM Micros that I have found recently. I also think the film container would last longer than a snuff can. May be worth a try though if you remove all the original labeling as well. Don't advertise that it's a snuff can if you hide one. Tobacco is so un-politically correct these days.
  4. I'd agree with this one, if it's not too difficult for the Admins to set up. I have an off model GPSr, and would love to more easily seek out the info I need for it here at the Specific Geocaching Forums. The Camper forums I am a part of just do not or can not devote much to the specific topics regarding Geocaching or the GPSr devices involved. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The only other thing we can do, is include the specific GPSr Model in the Subject line.
  5. Hmm... What's the etiquette on taking a cache and maintaining or servicing it myself? I suppose the best thing to do would be to post a NM log. Then make an offer to the owner that I can help and maintain it for him/her in that log? Anyone else have any thoughts or knowledge on this type of scenario? I'd love to help with some caches that are in my area. For now, I consider myself too much of a Newbie to actually Hide one of my own.
  6. I have gone to caches more than once. I'll post a DNF log if true, and post a Found It log when I actually do find it. I posted a double find once when going back to fetch a TB. I've since learned about posting Notes instead of Found, so I corrected it. I'll also consider checking up on some that were pretty soggy. If still in a wet condition, I now know that I can post a NM log that sends an Attribute to the cache owner so that he/she can go and check up on it. Either way, there are the proper logs for each visit. I have no interest at all in 'padding' a Find Count. What's the point in padding a find count for anyone else's opinion? (who cares?) And what's the point in padding your own find count for yourself? If you do that, you're only lying to yourself.
  7. Glad you found it. I just found 3 Micros today myself. One was at a lamp post where I I had to raise up a bolt skirt/cover to see the cache. I then took the cache to my car to sign the log... acting like I was looking at a map on the roof of my car.
  8. Most(?) owners appear to monitor cache logs and respond to DNF's and questions posted in logs. Quite a few do not. Some owners have hundreds of active caches in popular areas and simply cannot read and respond to all of them; some owners just don't care. Bottom line, if you absolutely want the owner to get a message, send a PM/email. And even that won't work if the owner isn't active. Posting a SBA also notifies the local reviewer. I've posted a "Needs Maintenance" log once, and that said it would include an Attribute to the cache and notify the owner. There was a quick reply from the owner in the cache page. If an "NM" log doesn't work, I'd consider the NA log, as the others have noted already. I'm still new here, but this is what I would try.
  9. OK, that didn't work at first, but it is now. That's what I guess I want it to look like for now.
  10. Another test from a Newbie to the game.... Wanna see what the Sig looks like now.
  11. Well I don't want to Delete one of my Logs. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I changed a "Find" Logs into a "Note". That worked Perfectly! Thank You! Situation solved folks. Again, Thanks Much.
  12. I'd like to know if I can Edit my actual count in the Geocache Status bar from 3 back down to 2. The reason I ask is because I visited Theatiki twice and logged both visits as a Find. Then I went on to Yost Mill after the second visit. So I found Two caches so far in truth and logged them all, but the Status bar says Three. How can I correct this? I did pick up the TB Nuts on my second visit to Theatiki, but that isn't meant to count, is it? With that in mind I could consider 3 finds to be true and accurate, but I have an idea that it's not meant to be that way. I'll be honest, I'm new to the Geocaching game to begin with, and even more of a Newbie to this site/forum. I just want to start off on the honest and proper foot here. Thanks, in advance.
