  1. MM, I know you're eager to get out on the trail again. But hey, if WWD can resprain his ankle so quickly, y'all are cursed down there. Take it easy, kay? Don't need our favorite bird home bound any longer. Gecko - love the new site! But but but - approve me already! Sheesh! Tryi to be an early adopter and you're making me wait.
  2. geez MooseMob - thy name is now Huggy Moose.
  3. Had this morning, hasn't done anything since. Just cold and windy when I left work at 8 tonight.
  4. Ah ok! Nope, nothing like that except for geocaching.com itself.
  5. Um, nope, that's not what I was confused about. I'm puzzled by the phrase "cache site dealing with all cache sites". Do you mean a website listing caches in towns/cities? - to my knowledge, there's no website for Nevada, aside from the mass national databases of gc.com, terracaching, navicaching, etc., etc. Or do you mean a website for caching groups in Northern Nevada? - GBES (Great Basin and Eastern Sierra Geocachers) has a Yahoo Groups mailing list. Also NGA (Nevada Geocaching Association) has a forum. I don't know of any other groups in the state. Or are you even talking about a website?
  6. Welcome to the forum!! Glad to see you've been putting out new caches in the Dayton area, two of which were placed a few days after me and b0neZ went 'exploring' out Dayton Valley Rd. Just so I'm clear, what do you mean by "small regional or city cache sites"? I'm easily confused. But always willing to help!
  7. Okay, my tour is turning into a monster - but hey, I'm having fun. I found some pre-made (aka, need permission before my public debut) MP3 files for various locations. After converting them into WAV files, I've created a button under each item so the player can chose to have the file play or not. However, once started, I can't figure out how to stop the audio. It's a 90-second blurb, so the option to Stop Audio would be nice, just in case. Course this may be a moot point if my field trial fails again... but now the question is out there for others.
  8. An idea occured to me last night as I was logging a few carts that I'd played on the Emulator. Just as Travel Bugs have the option for Discovery without doing the old Drop/Retrieve or Grab - how about a third Log type? Like Simulated, or Googled, or Played the Lackey, or whatever. I'm sure there are tons of honest cachers who would love to experience these carts - but time and/or distance forbids it. Write Note - to me - indicates something I want to tell the owner or future players. Played - to me - means I physically went to the site and experienced the location. Surely there can be a third option? Just a thought...
  9. Unfortunately, while I have control over the 'somefilename', the extension is untouchable in the save dialogue and not viewable in the File Explorer nor the Search feature. Selecting Rename only allows me to change the file name. So, I'm stuck with arena.aspx
  10. Just a future version request. Right now, if I go to the Wherigo site and try to download a cartridge straight onto my Pocket PC, all I get is the download box asking if I want to save the 1.87 MB file 'download.aspx'. Would it be possible to have it be able to send me the GWC file directly? I can see someone finding themselves with some spare time during the day and wanting instant access to the cartridges so they could play a quick game - all without the need to find a computer and sync the file. Please???
  11. No cache specifically cause the main start points are either unaccessible to caches or have one too close not on the trail (Dash for the Cache and Stew-pendous are annoying in that aspect). The Kit Carson trail is a walking tour of the historic Comstock-era homes. My favorite starting point is the Nevada State Museum simply due to the parking issue. They recommend starting at the Brewery Arts Center ("they" being the Visitor Center). All you do is follow the blue line painted on the sidewalks all over the old town. There's about 35-40 stops depending if you walk downtown also. You can get the map and the downloadable Podcast/MP3 files here
  12. According to this thread, caches can use Wherigo as part of them (as long as the cache meets the usual requirements). I also heard back on the 6th that Reviewers have been told to list all Wherigo caches as Puzzles until they can sort out exactly how to treat them.
  13. I was hoping for a "You are here" vs a "You should be here" - but I'll take what I can get. I'd already considered the graphical map with directions - I'll see about incorporating those into my route... Oh, but to dream!
  14. Seeing as this is based on old adventure games, and with the possibility of tours offered for areas, is it possible to somehow include a primative map of where a player is in relation to visible zones/characters/items/etc? Something as simple as a line drawing with a real-time GPS identified "You Are Here" arrow to maybe as fancy as an incorporation of Google Maps (for those with unlimited data access). On the Colorado, I don't see this as an issue as (I assume) one can move between Wherigo and the Mapping side of the GPS. When I test walked my tour - having a screen with an area map and a dot indicating where my GPS thought I was in relation to the zone I was walking to would really have helped seeing as the red arrows didn't always point the right direction to walk.
  15. Discouraged? Heck no! Its a personal challenge now. I don't like it when a piece of plastic and metal outwits me. Oh, didn't think of that. Perfect! As one problem I had was houses/zones to close to each other. One question / suggestion - but as it relates to Building I'll put it under the proper forum. Thanks Jeremy!!
  16. Well, the only caches/hikes I can think of are all snowed in at the moment. Along the Tahoe Rim Trail is where I usually went for the longer hikes. That's why I haven't replied. Have you done Live and Let Die (Deadmans Creek) GCX31T yet? I got 3.6 miles out of it, with a nice overlook of Washoe Lake and bits of Carson. Dunno how the snow is since I haven't been up to Reno for awhile. I really need to get up there. Or for a flat walk, come down to Carson and walk the blue line trail through the historic Comstock-era houses.
  17. I just finished building the zones and actions for my historical tour of Carson City. Total was 36 zones (along the sidewalks) and one character following the player around. Only 3-5 pictures so far, and no sounds. Zones built using the Edit Online tool Everything worked beautifully in the Emulator - with an action firing upon entry and exit of a zone, the character moving where she was supposed to, and all the zones appearing and disappearing as the player moved through the neighborhood. So, trial time and actually walk the thing. Disaster!! My first zone was alright, being right next to the starting coordinates (the parking lot), everything did exactly as it was meant to. Once I left that zone, a whole lot went wrong - 1) *probably just me* In acknowledging the OK button, I would push Ok on my PPC and whoops... closed the program. Drat, four times got me used to that. 2) GPS (Delorme BT-20) would maintain the green LED indicating signal, but the Player would go from full green bars to red to green again - causing it to lose my location. 3) Due to the above happening, I would be standing in front of one house and it would show I still had anywhere from 100-200 feet remaining. I'd walk to the supposed location and be blocks off my route. 4) Still with green LED and green bars - I would move, and the Player would not.... 5) *need to check this* I would enter one zone, and a message from a zone blocks away would fire. Possibly either bad coding on my part, or it thinking I was someplace else. 6) Oddly, my PPC wouldn't recognize that I had an active program running and would go inactive and then my phone would turn off. **my problem** if my phone turns off while the GPS is connected - Bluetooth turns off - and, upon restart, the Player still shows green bars and full strength. ARGH! 7) Turn phone back on, relaunch BT, reconnect GPS, relaunch Player - and I'm now three houses behind my location. The only time that things worked properly was after each reboot and reconnect. Then set the phone down to take a picture - and after a few moments it would catch up and fire the appropriate action (YEA!) and then two houses later it would lose it again. Has anyone else actually gone out and walked their cartridge and had it work exactly as expected? I'm really really hoping that my gear just really hates me.
  18. Unfortunately, my Pocket PC is through Verizon who has a nasty habit of disabling these options. I found how to reenable it through this blog from the Windows Mobile Team. If you get under your Settings/System tab and don't see the GPS icon, this *may* be the issue.
  19. :looks at her flaming torch: Awww, MM, ya never let me have any fun!
  20. To all of you who don't have to put up with Byjer, feel lucky. This is not the first, nor will it be his last. He is the type of cacher who believes the Hide:Find ratio is the most important and is striving to have his somewhere around 50%. Sadly, this means ill-placed, ill-conceived, and ill-chosen caches. And FAR TO MANY caches for him to maintain financially. Granted he does have a few really creative ones, but anytime a cacher mentions that the cache needs maintenence, the usual response (for both locals and non) is that they are to go out and purchase the supplies needed for the repair. And no, it's not due to him living too far away. Most of his caches are immediately around his usual travel area and he is more than capable of maintaining them. I am on his most-hated list as he (wrongly) believes I somehow am the cause of him being cut out of a tv show and most of the caches around the Pyramid Lake Indian Reservation being archived. So he has made my logs a hit-or-miss as far as deletion goes. asaxist - if you want the smiley, here's my tactic in dealing with Byjer. Go to wap.geocaching.com and log there. You'll need to go back into www.geocaching.com to change your log to the appropriate date. WAP, fortunately in your case, does not send an email notify to the owner of the cache nor to anyone watching the cache or area through the insta-notify list. I, for my part, am going to send this to the local cachers. Having a thorn in our side in one thing, when that thorn pricks cachers who are visiting us is entirely different. We hit the caches rapidly - but it is visitors that keeps our caches going beyond the first month. Like anything else, caching relies on visitors and to insult them is a grave mistake.
  21. Fixed and will be in the next batch of updates early next week. David. Thank you both!!
  22. I've got the player running on a Verizon XV6700 using a Delorme BT-20 GPS. I needed to stop my running programs and clear my Internet temp files, plus on the initial startup connect my GPS before launching the player, before it would work. But I got it working and ran the tutorial about an hour before the meet & greet.
  23. I'm bringing these up as I'm bumping into them. When I create a new zone, I enter the Name, the Media, and then the description (basically, just following in order of the fields). I get down to Edit Online, set my points for the zone, Save, and then Close, and my description is gone. I reopened Edit Online after typing in a generic description and noticed that in the description field on the Edit Online window, that its empty. Saving that as blank erases my previous description, but if I type something into that description field, then Save, it'll overwrite whatever I previously had in the first description box. Is there a way to either import the description field into the Edit Online window - or remove the second description box so the first isn't lost? **Edit - this only happens on a new Zone, if I go back and edit a zone I'd already saved with a description - the description remains through the changes.
