  1. Well, I'm a newbie so my opinion may change with time. To me, there are two kinds that I like. The first kind has lots of simple riddles and things of interest to my 12 yr old. The second is one that takes me someplace new and interesting (for me). For both, I prefer scenic terrain. Tough or easy to get there is fine. But I don't want to spend hours looking once I get there. And I don't want to leave after a tough climb without finding it. MOST IMPORTANT is not to make the terrain annoying (avoid places like mosquito infested swamps). Sea side, moutain top, river side, in the woods, in the desert, all of these are good.
  2. quote:Originally posted by alchemist2000:If I understand your post correctly, it is not a datum issue but a format issue. The coordinates are both correct but in different formats. N 43 04.934 is in degrees minutes and decimal minutes (dd mm.mmm). 43.08223 is in degrees and decimal degrees (dd.ddddd) There are 60 minutes in a degree. Therefore, if you multiply 0.08223 times 60, you can convert that to 4.93338 minutes. Either the program to which you download (Easygps?) or your gps is probably set to the different format and is doing the math to convert the posted cache page coordinates to the coordinates in the other format. Change that to dd mm.mmm and everything should be listed the same. Alchemist2000 http://www.texasgeocaching.com Ooops...Waterboy With Wife types faster than I do. Thanks that worked
  3. quote:Originally posted by umc:The difference is that you need to change the datum from wgs84 to whatever it is for the other set of coords. The reason its off is because its using the wrong datum for the coords. http://www.mi-geocaching.org/ __________________________ Makes sense but both sets of coordinates (and the device) say they are in wgs84 maybe I will mail the owner thanks Caching without a clue....
  4. Hi all. I am VERY new to geoCaching so please forgive my ignorance. I looked up a geoCache (Issaquah In Perington) and found on the cache page the coordinates: N 43° 04.934 W 077° 25.572 (WGS84) I also downloaded the waypoint file and opened it with the following info for the geocache coords: Latitude : 43.08223 Longitude: -774262 If I enter a waypoint on my GPS with the first set of coordinates then the cache is indeed in Perington in a place that seems to fit what I read others have described a bit. And the photos seem to validate the general site. If I use the second set of coordinates (from the waypoint file), the site ends up on the other side of town about 13 miles away. Could anybody tell me the difference between these coordinates? I would like to be able to use the downloads. Thanks much
