  1. The website has stopped displaying image descriptions - they're not shown in logs and user galleries. I describe every image uploaded. Only images uploaded via the old form with name entered instead of description have the name displayed.

  2. In case this thread is watched by the devs - in the drop-down, please add counts of Best stories, resp. Most helpful logs so one does not have to blindly select both options to see whether it filters out some logs. Like this:

    Newest

    Best story (2)

    Most helpful (0)

Why increase the load of the server if it's not necessary...

By the way, it would be even better if it was displayed as a RADIO button instead of SELECT box. The information would be directly visible and we wouldn't have to open the drop-down at all.

I know I will make someone mad by posting this, but if this voting feature is implemented my future logs are likely to be this:

I've checked a couple of your recently found caches and realized that you like to share nice stories with the world. I am quite puzzled as to why you would stop doing that just because you might be given "Great story" or "Helpful" on them... But I respect such a decision.

just saw this awful new element: the ability to vote on someone's log as a 'great story' or 'helpful' - this is really crappy i think - logs are not competitions or sources for other people's entertainment or education - i don't write my logs for others beyond being respectful not to swear or post spoilers

Why awful? My log can get nothing (as it is today) or earn one of these "Great story" or "Helpful" points. As long as these are positive points only I don't see how anyone could have problems with them.

By the way, you post your logs to a public cache page, everyone can read them (even not-logged-in visitors!) so you actually DO write your logs for others as well...

I will only appreciate if this triggers competing regarding better logs - many of them today are a "TFTC" ones or those long copy'n'paste whole-trip-descriptive ones (this type is on the rise). Cachers sure may continue writing them, no problem, and they will continue not getting these new FPs for them, no problem. But some write nice unique stories and I would like to be able to easily get to them even if they are burried under tons of junk over time.

Also from a cache owner's perspective: this can become a useful tool for me to easily check for spoilers on my caches if people tag such logs as "Helpful".

The best I read went something like, "There were children and parents in the playground; I didn't care, I walked over, extracted the cache in front of them, signed, put the cache back and walked off. Hate caches in playgrounds."

The CO should reply to this the only way: "Then ignore them!"

This is a reason that geocaches should not be allowed to be hidden in or near children's playgrounds.

Sure. Many moms with little children are geocachers. Why should they be able to find geocaches while safely watching their kids playing on the playground, right?

I believe it's criminals who should not be allowed near playgrounds, not caches.

Then the reviewer comes into action, after a month being disabled.

Show me how that happened with https://coord.info/GC4Z1Z4 or https://coord.info/GC4Z1ZX :)

That is my another two cents for What steps can Geocaching HQ take to improve geocache quality?  - communicate with reviewers and try to shorten the Disabled states to 1 month. OK, no problem with 3 months. But 8? Both caches were disabled due to a lack of the owner's maintenance.

  8. The A-team's list is nearly perfect. I would add for the HQ's side:

    - finally do something with long-time set NM attributes - nag screen on the dashboard for example so the CO's know about them (this actually falls within A-team's "Encourage and/or incentivize CO cache maintenance")

  9. Apparently it would be best to leave it as it is:

    - default sorting on "Newest"

    - not make it sticky so people don't miss latest logs with essential info

Those who are not interested in this feature will not have to do anything, they can scroll down as before and see the logs in date-order. Those who are can use the sorting function. No harm for anyone. Well, except psychoanalyst's cases. :)

    1. Those who don't want their logs judged in any way, and have been given no way to opt out, will choose not to log online. This will deprive the community of the description of their experience and any feedback they may have about the cache.

There sure will be such people. But I guess more people stop logging everyday because they die.
