  1. I lived near the village of Darley about 12 miles west of Harrogate. I did not know about Geocaching then. Gutted it a real stunning part of britain and lots of so caches,so any cache should be a pleasure. I'd reccommend the area around Thruscross resevoir as this was my favorite places to go for a run. Its about 5 miles round trip around the resevoir. Awesome walk.

No probs, if it's OK with you I'd like to find it before adopting it, I should be able to have a go this week, is that OK with you? If I can't get it this week then I'll just adopt it and you'll have to tell me where to find it :anicute:

No problem, If you have any question get in touch.

  3. Hello,

I have one cache left for adoption. It's a puzzle cache on the south bank of the thames. I've archived or had adopted the few I had. I'd hate to see this one archived so if someone could take it off my hands I'd be most grateful. I leave London in the middle of July so will be unable to maintain

  4. I've got lots of these parcels at home because I know someone who works for a sports shop. I can send you some if you like. I did a trial on a cache container in my garden with a little bit od water in the container with about 4 SG parcels and found them to be ineffective even after 3 weeks.

  6. I took up Geocaching to make walking more interesting. Due to injury I needed to walk as part of my physiotherapy / rehabilitation Geo caching gave me a goal to achieve whilst walking, in London I found this especially helpful.

My job take me all over I intend to get as many caches on my travels. I'm off to Afghanistan next spring and laughed when I seen there's a few over there and will enjoy finding and helping to maintain them during my stay. Also I'm leaving London in July for Hampshire so a whole new patch discover.

  7. Not cached there but done all three peaks a few times when living in Harrogate. I'd recommend the campsite in Horten in Ribblesdale. It's central to the peaks and the perk of a pub next to site for a hot scoff and a beer at the end of the day. Magic.

I'd also reccommend a stay in Gordale scar nice village nearbye (Malham) and no doubt a few caches there.

Mmmm got me thinking about a return trip now

  8. We spent yesterday caching along Colliers Way between Radstock and Kilsmarsden and thoroughly enjoyed it, especially with the fine weather that we had. We couldn't take our bikes as we have changed cars recently and haven't checked whether it fits or not. duh! We were kicking ourselves.

Anyway the question that I am leading to is can anyone provide a list of cycle routes laden with caches around the country. It's something that we are keen to do and our kids would enjoy doing it also.

Hi theres a series in South Wales on Route 47

  9. Having not watched one of my favourite films for a few years, I saw the end of The Shawshank Redemption in a whole new light tonight. When Red goes off to find the hidden cache, under a pile of rocks next to a lone tree, it certainly rang some bells.

Despite having seen it countless times, when he opened the plastic bag, whilst looking around for muggles, I almost expected him to pull out a log book and sign it.

Are there any films that remind you of geocaching?

I watched the end of the film too and chuckled when I seen that part.

  10. Shamless Plug:- If you want to get your caches to the tom tom from GSAK then suggest you download my macro fromthe GSAK library. It will copy over the caches and child waypoints along wth all the correct graphics. After that you would just set up the alerts on the tomtom as if it was any other poi.

  11. Hi All,

    Anyone using these together?

The reason I ask is mobile phone access through bluetooth is a bit expensive. I do have a 3G Dongle which I use with my laptop. I'm wondering if I can attach to PDA looking at it I would need a cable or adapter that will join these together. My PDA only has Ipaq connecting port at the bottom and my Dongle connect to laptop via a small cable with USB into laptop and Small USB (like a standard camera connection dont know the name of type but I hope you know what I mean) to the Dongle.

Anybody using this I'd appreciate some advice.

    Thanks in Advance

  12. You can also use a mobile phone as a modem for a PDA or laptop if they both have a Bluetooth connection. I've done this in the past and it's handy in an emergency.

    Hi

Thanks for the replys so far. I can connect pda to mobile via blue tooth but need a number to dial to access the net.

  13. Hi All

I've had a GPSr in my kit list for years and only used it for emergency or mobile navigation in large featureless open ground. I've been using map and compass for years and I'm a fairly competent navigator. I'd say using map and compass make you plan ahead plotting your course and therefore an experienced map reader would only look at map occasionally and would be looking for confidence boosters (features) along the leg all from the memory of route/leg in his/her head. Only pulling map out when things don’t add up in your mind. Map reading is a skill and like a muscle must be exercised, it’s an essential skill for those who wander up mountains and remote caches as if all the gadgets go wrong you need know how to get out.

As for the article, It’s all down to experience a competent person with GPSr technology would probably beat a poor map reader, and vice versa.
