  1. If you can get permission from either of those places, absolutely you could place a cache there. Keep in mind that if it's a nuisance it will get negative feedback and since that site rewards you on quality and does the opposite for bad caches, you are not motivated to place problem caches. The "other" site is not for everyone and I understand that. People that like tossing a film can under every bush or a key holder on every guard rail will not appreciate this type of site. Nor will smiley hounds that couldn't care less about the quality of a cache and are only interested in boosting their ego by a high smiley count. Therefore, both sites will have their fans. Both will meet different types of needs.
  2. I am a premium member and every name I recognize in this forum from TX is a premium member. I believe it is those that are the MOST caring of gc.com that are bitching the loudest. They love it and want it to be the best it can be. If we didn't care we wouldn't be here posting.
  3. No Smerf, it means follow the state and federal and county laws and you'll be fine, it doesn't mean follow Jeremy and PA's laws.
  4. If it's LEGAL you CAN place it, period! If it's not, you can't. Simple!
  5. To clarify Jeremy's statement: The idea is to not cross post for a good reason. Cross posting is what hurt Navicache so bad. Why go look up caches on Nav when 99% of them are already on gc.com. Also, the caches on tc.com are of a different type, better in my opinion. You are rated on tc.com by the quality of caches you hide and hunt, not the quantity. And it is NOT by invitation only. You sign up and ask for two sponsors. The two people that sponsor you (almost always someone that knows you, is aware of your cache placement type, your knowledge of local rules/laws, lives near you, etc.) are your approvers. There are almost no rules for placement. If you don't like a cache, don't do it. It is governed by the people, for the people. Just because on tc.com I can place an incredible WWII artifact as a VIRTUAL cache, make it so people must move it each time as a ROVING cache, insist that it must stay on the RAILROAD tracks, and you get extra credit if it's placed WITHIN 100 FEET of another cache, does not mean I will. And if I do, you don't have to hunt it down. Wow, to think that some people can think for themselves, what a novel idea. Might even be scary sounding to the sheep that need be told what they can do, where they can do it, how they can do it, etc.
  6. Yes, many people have cancelled their gc.com accounts and switched over. Others will continue to use gc.com to hunt caches that are not on tc.com (yet). Although just about every new cache in Central Texas will be on tc.com, when I travel to another state I will have to hunt caches on gc.com (for now). Also for TBs. Some people have transferred their caches over.
  7. You're exactly right Brian, we shouldn't put them in that position. Perhaps what this really comes down to is rules. Throughout history Texans haven't liked them much. I think that many of the cachers here are too free thinking to be told what is an appropriate cache to do and what isn't. Yes, to do, not to place. If I place a cache at an abortion clinic you have every right not to do it. If I put out a roving cache no one will twist your arm to retrieve it. If I post a virtual which is a sighting of a religious figure and you are an atheist, don't do it. If I post locationless caches and you hate them don't waste your time. If I want to place a cache that's 200 feet from another with a 180 foot river between them I should be able to make that reasonable decision. If I want to link my caches together in a progressive manner and not create a huge multi I should be able to decide that for myself. Etc., etc. Our Centex group is quite exceptional, heck we just had 30 of us work together to place a 40 leg cache, The MONSTER. We have the ability to govern ourselves. This is why I believe tc.com is so attractive to most of us and why an enourmous amount of us have switched over to that site. So in conclusion, perhaps there is absolutely nothing at all wrong with gc.com. Perhaps a great deal of us have just outgrown it and its rules that not only stifle our creativity but disallow us to think for ourselves. tc.com will allow us to place what we want and to hunt what we want. I guess in the end its all about freedom.
  8. The above "No Cache For You!" archive job has puzzled me for a week or so now. Can a gc.com "official" explain why once again, Prime has chosen to not see the above as a guideline but as a law? I mean give me a break... you can't give someone the option of donating a can of food for a starving person? If only the other approvers would speak the truth in these forums as opposed to kissing butt. Let's give it a try... how many of you would have archived a cache where helping out a starving person during the holidays was an option? If it's all of you then you're right, there's nothing at all wrong with Prime, it's your insane guidlines that aren't guidlines at all. If you would have APPROVED it then you see what we are saying. And don't tell me rules are rules, or any of that crappy attitude. Don't tell me that if you allow someone to place a cache that promotes helping out a starving soul it will lead to caches that assist terrorists' causes. That's why they are GUIDLINES! So you can choose NOT to approve the "donate to Bin Laden cache" but can approve the "can of beans for a hungry child cache". WAKE UP!
  9. There has been quite a bit of it mentioned over the months on our local Yahoo group.
  10. Mopar, you just don't get it. Did you read my post from 10:45? Nevermind, don't take it personally but trying to get you to understand our situation is like trying to get a cache approved in central Texas. Waste of time to even attempt it. I'm tired of battling autonomy and ignorance, geocaching was meant to be more fun than hitting your head against the wall. Yes, I'm tired of burgers so I go think I'll go find another hobby. Someone wake me up after the sheep have all been led to slaughter. Perhaps by then someone will have seen the light.
  11. Please note the words; RULE OF THUMB, ARBITRARY and GUIDLINES. No such thing anymore. They have all become LAWS and if you infringe upon them in the least, it's NO CACHE FOR YOU!
  12. But what would you do if the peron at the counter of McDonalds told you that you MUST eat his hamburgers with peanut butter on them or no burger for you? My guess is you would stop eating at McDonalds. That's what our counter person is doing to us. Remember that great episode on Seinfeld? The Soup Nazi? Even though all the customers loved his product and were willing to pay for it, if someone did something he disliked in the least it was, "No Soup for You!". Well, we are tired of hearing, "No Cache for You!". Now if McDonalds' management fired that unweilding employee, you might go back. I stress the word MIGHT because we've all been pissed off enough buy some business that we've never went back to patronize them. Let's be honest here. This isn't Walmart vs. Target. In this game there has primarily been ONLY a Walmart. If this Walmart doesn't stop alienating its clientele, there will soon be a "Target". That's exactly what's happening.
  13. We just call "legs" of a multi-cache redirectors since they redirect you to the next leg. Yes, people that assisted in setting it up can find it since for the most part each person only knows where one leg of the multi is since they each hid only one. That leaves 40 waypoints they do not know of. Every redirector except perhaps 2 or 3 are >500 feet from any other cache. The approvers worked a little bit with us. Although not a rule, most approvers consider >250 feet a fair distance for multi cache legs to be from any other cache. Of course, that is up to each individual approver so definetely check with yours before taking that >250 feet seriously.
  14. 1)Team Lyon: Yes, that what I also percieve geocaching to be all about. People getting together with people to have fun. Yes, there are a hundred other enjoyable aspects of caching but that is a biggie. Cooperation is a huge consideration for me. I realize competition is a biggie for many people and that's fine too, but getting 36 of us to cooperate was a wonderful goal to achieve. I can't begin to tell you how many naysayers there were. "You can never do this, it's too many legs, it's a maintenance nightmare, it will never get approved, it will take away from all the other caches that could have been placed, it's too much work for one smiley. too much gasoline to do one cache, etc., etc." They can all kiss my a** now because not only did we do it, we did a great job and it's a fantastic cache. 2) Corp of Discovery: Do it. That's all I have to say. Don't dwell on the negatives, iron out the details as you go along if need be. If it doesn't work, take the knowledge you've acquired and make the next cache you dream about a reality. 3) KoosKoos: Thank you. The joy you receive when your 6 year old child has a great time with his/her daddy out doing the MONSTER is what is all about. Need I say more. 4) Gwho: I respect that. I have a caching friend that must have a gazillion finds but has NO smileys. Personally, I believe smileys are a downer on this hobby. They don't mean a dadgum thing to me other than they make it easy to know which caches I have done. If anything, they seem to alienate us from each other. Sort of a "class" creating thing. I am seriously considering not claiming any more smileys. The people that really make me puke in this hobby are the ones that seem to value their entire self worth by how many smiley they have. I feel sorry for them, they are pathetic. Type A selfish personalities that make me sick. You keep doing what makes you happy, not that you need me to tell you that, just so it is known that I support people like yourself that cache for the "right" reasons, which dadgum sure isn't "I have more smileys than you", or "I have more FTFs that you". Keep on Caching - Es
  15. Certainly you have the time throughout the duration of your life to find 40 caches, yes? Many people say what you said but what they are really saying is you don't want to do all that work for 1 smiley. Those of us that are not smiley motivated are honored to complete this MONSTER Cache and have one EXTEREMELY MEMORABLE smiley. Not every cache is for every cacher. I do appreciate your your feedback. Thanks! Essiar
  16. Hi Gwho: Appreciate your feedback. So far 3 people have found it and about 10 more are working their way through it. My question to you is this... You say you wouldn't have the UMPH to attempt this cache but do you have the UMPH to head out 6 times to do 7 caches each time sometime during the balance of your life? Of course you do! Of course you'll cache 6 more times in your life. Perhaps what you meant to say was you don't have the UMPH to go out caching 6 times for only one smiley. Don't feel bad, you're certainly not alone. I'm not saying you are one by any means, I have no idea who you are so please don't take this wrong, but I certainly know one or two people here that are almost solely motivated by smileys. They would get up 6am in the morning to run around all day to get as many smileys as they possibly can but wouldn't think of doing the MONSTER Cache for just one measly smiley. They'll go on cache crazy cruises doing 50 in a day BUT ONLY FOR 50 smileys. Personally I don't get it but everyone has their right to cache for whatever motivates them. Smileys don't motivate me in the least, great caching experiences do, and the MONSTER Cache is certainly a great caching experience. I agree with you that not everyone will want to jump on this one, but then again, not every cache is for every cacher. The vast majority of the joy I have received from placing this cache was not the future count of how many people attempt it but the comradery it took to have 36 of us work together to create it.
  17. YEEHAAAA! FTF was just posted. It actually works! BTW, there's even a discussion group dedicated to this cache, needless to say, most of the conversation surrounded getting it set up. AustinMonster
  18. Yes I did Anon and apologized for being redundant. I just wanted a different topic due to my curiousity about any caches with more redirectors. Delta, it took LOTS of planning but the maintenance issue is resolved. There should be very little need for maintenance but when the need arises, the system we've created should assure simple and speedy "repairs". There's even a discusion group dedicated to this one cache. AustinMonster BTW, FTF was just posted. I'll be damned, it actually works!
  19. Curious if anyone knows of a CURRENTLY ACTIVE multi-cache with more than 40 legs. Please inform me if you know of one. This one stretches out over 111 miles with 40 legs plus the final cache. Sorry for posting this cache gain in the forum but I'd really like to know if there's one out there with more redirectors than this one. MONSTER
  20. Duh! Thanks Fart, would have helped if I remembered to link it! Thanks again!
  21. Check out this awesome 40 leg multi put together by 36 different people. It's called MONSTER. GCKGF2
  22. CARLEEN! What would Loosey Goosy think? Oh yeah, she skinny dips all the time.
  23. OK, I'll look deeper into it. All I see on Cachemate is either export to memo pad or beam waypoint. I see no way to export via a cable to my Magellan. Can you point me in that direction? Thanks!
