  1. Too bad you don't have Walmart stores over there! I was surprised to see that Walmart here in Austin Tx was selling them. They had whole slew of them in their Sporting Goods Dept! I know where to go if I ever want to set up cache now!
  2. ....NO WAY.... My favorite find is an Ammo Can cache! I'm sure I am NOT ALONE!
  3. I could do some of them one at a time. but how did he do so many in one day? And where does one find all the souvenirs available and how did you know about this? I found out about this "sock puppet" because I had a watch on an Event that this guy logged and so I got curious and checked their account. 4. I had a similar instance happen to me a few weeks ago here in Texas. I had just emerged from a wooded area and was passing thru a small clearing and in some bushes to my left I heard a low gutteral growl. I have no idea what it was...Feral Pig, Feral Dog, or a Coyote? But I have a carry permit so I always carry if I'm in a remote area by myself, I either take my .38 or my .22. I haven't had to use it yet, but it's nice to know I've got it. What ever growled at me never showed itself. Normally I take my Dogs with me also, but it has been so hot here I decided to leave them home when I made this cache run.
  5. check this out: This "Sock Puppet" joined yesterday and has now acquired a number of souvenirs! His Profile name gives away what he's up to though: http://www.geocaching.com/profile/default.aspx?guid=15b2b8cb-09a7-4533-8e71-1279b6099eeb
  6. I've taken mine thru the X-ray machines, in my carry-on, many times! The only issue I had was, the last time I flew, I was one of the last to board my flight on a mini jet and there wasn't enough overhead left for my bag, so they gate checked it. Some how my GPS screen got cracked? It still works, but I always wonder what happened, to my bag, after it left my hands????
  7. No real injuries other than bug bites, scraped knees & elbows and a few cactus needles. A couple of years ago there was a geocacher here in Austin that fell while trying to retrieve a cache on a cliff side along the Barton Creek Greenbelt. When he fell he pulled a large boulder down with him that ended up crushing his chest. He was critically injured. Here is the news story link: http://www.kvue.com/news/Man-in-critical-condition-after-boulder-falls-on-him-at-greenbelt-122534299.html
  8. Yeah...That reminds me, once while hunting a geocache with a fellow cacher,a couple years ago, we thought we had found the cache we were searching for in the Zilker Park area of Austin, but the container had a pipe and some funny tobacco ! We quickly replaced it and continued our search for the "right" cache! Another time while hiking the Leon Creek trail in San Antonio we found a "Flask" hidden under a little foot bridge. And my Best find was a baby Sulcatta Tortoise! I still have him!
  9. We found a little Sheltie dog once while searching for a cache in NW Austin. She was in pretty bad shape! We rushed her to an emergency Vet and they said it appeared that she had been attacked by a Coyote and had a pretty bad injury to her hind quarter. Sheltie Rescue took her in and named her "River" because the area we found her in was called "Riverplace". Other than finding the little dog, I've found snakes near a couple caches. But you watch out for that in Texas.
  10. You might send out a nicely worded message, to the first few finders of your cache, stating that you were notified by a Geocacher that your TB (insert TB# & Name) that you placed in your newly published cache (insert name of cache), is missing and were wondering if they remember seeing it or possibly retrieving it but just haven't logged it yet?
  11. I'm Terrible about logging my finds! I enjoy the hike and the hunt but just can't seem to take the time to go online and log it! I know I've found hundreds and signed all the logs of the caches I've found! I'm just not into the online record I guess? I did try to go back and log some a few months ago, but it bored me!
  12. Possibly? Did you see any GC number or a name? If it is a PM cache and you know the GC number you can still log it as a Basic Member by going to this website: geocachingadmin.com
  13. This site: http://blog.geocaching.com/2010/11/geocaching-com-souvenirs/ Shows the different souvenirs, some are self-explanatory, others you can find by researching them by googling them.
  14. You will probably have better luck requesting a visit on Monday. You need to contact Groundspeak directly, though, to arrange it.
  15. This topic may have already been covered in previous forums?!? Please give an example?
  16. A friend of mine created a "rock" cache by taking a limestone rock about 10" wide x 20" long. She drilled out several holes on the back side where a metal hinged lidded box was to be inserted. She then chiseled out between the drilled holes. It worked pretty well. Took her a few hours to do it, but it came out the way she wanted it.
  17. Necropolis of Brittania Manor III GC2B034 in Austin Texas it has 339 fav's and it has to be one of the best creative caches!
  18. Sorry to hear about your lost "bugs" If you can look to see who the next cacher was to visit the cache after you placed your bug in it, I would send them a little note asking if they had seen or possibly retrieved your bug and simply forgot to log it or did not realize what they had? That would be my first step. If you don't receive a response on the whereabouts of your TB's I would use the "copy" tag to release another Bug, probably after a year of it being MIA.
  19. by Solving the puzzle in question.
  20. Do you have any Army (or Military) surplus stores in your area? Might check there?
  21. I personally have not had any bad experiences while geocaching, but a friend cacher's dog was bitten by a rattlesnake while we were on a hike to a remote cache in Texas! See before & after pics of her Dog! The dog survived after 4 days in an Animal Hospital and 2 vials of anti venom.
  22. You could always drop a line to the Coin Owner and see if they will provide you with the Tracking no. so you could update it. Or you could tell the owner of the Coin which cache you put it in so they could do the book keeping.
  23. Yes!...I have been trying for the last hour and I keep getting the message: "The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.' I thought it was because we were having T-Storms here this morning, but if others are having the same issue, then it must be something going on with the website!
