  1. I can't read french so that web site is difficult for me. Glenn
  2. Hello. I live in California and my family and I will soon be visiting France. While we plan to see many of the tourist sites (Eiffel Tower, Louvre, Notre Dame, Catacombs), we are hoping to meet some “locals”. I’ve been geocaching since July 2001 and some of the nicest people I’ve ever met are geocachers. Therefore, I thought it would be fun to meet a French geocacher or two. I’m a civil engineer, my wife is a psychologist, my daughters are 9 and 11 years old. We arrive in Paris on June 3 (Sunday). Meeting for dinner on June 5 or 6 would work well. There are other options too. We don't speak french, so we would be good people to practice english with. We are also looking for suggestions for interesting caches and things to see/do. We are staying about one kilometer northeast of Notre Dame. We have a trip to Amboise and Mont St. Michel planned. To pique your interest, I have a White Jeep (TBM7CQ) that I plan to leave in Europe. 3. Hello. I live in California and my family and I will soon be visiting England. While we plan to see many of the tourist sites (British Museum, National Gallery, Tower of London, St. Paul’s), we are hoping to meet some “locals”. I’ve been geocaching since July 2001 and some of the nicest people I’ve ever met are geocachers. Therefore, I thought it would be fun to meet an English geocacher or two. I’m a civil engineer, my wife is a psychologist, my daughters are 9 and 11 years old. We fly to London on May 23. Meeting for a picnic lunch in St. James Park on Saturday (26th) or dinner on the 26th somewhere around the London Eye would be great. Another option is to join us on a river cruise on Monday the 28th (bank holiday). There are other options too. We are also looking for suggestions for interesting caches and things to see/do. We are staying in Notting Hill. We are going to Dover Castle for Living History and “Attacking the Tower” at the Tower of London. We also have a trip to York planned. To pique your interest, I have a White Jeep (TBM7CQ) that I plan to leave in Euurope. Glenn95630

  5. If this has been asked in the previous 37 pages of San Dego Thread I apologize for the repetition. Some of my friends and I will be visiting San Diego in January to go geocaching. Last year it was Las Vegas and a couple months ago it was Mammoth Mountain. Now we are coming further south. I was wondering if you could recommend some "don't miss' geocaches in the area. I think we mostly want to explore along the shoreline since we did desert caching in Nevada. Based on a real brief look, Whale Poop Island looks unique and Who's Getting Wet looks fun. We might use geocaching as an excuse to rent sea kayaks and get the geocache off the La Jolla coast. Any other suggestions? Glenn
  6. I assume not all the essays are posted yet since they stop on date 7/26/2004.
  7. All the different icons will be shown on the nearest cache page. If that is not happening, please point me to a link where it is showing up incorrectly. At this cache Jaybird at Silver Creek (link below) there is both a YJTB and a geocoin. Then click on the 'all nearby caches' link and see the list. I only see the geocoin icon. If you go to Strawberry Picnic (link below) there is both a YJTB and a regular TB. Then click on the 'all nearby caches' link and see the list. I only see the regular TB icon. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...11-999e8d81316d http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...1a-0e56cb95a304
  8. On the 'Search for Nearest Cache' pages I like the jeep icon. But I noticed that in a cache that had both a regular TB and a YJTB, the regular icon was shown. Also, in another cache that had both a USA Geocoin and a YJTB, the Geocoin icon was shown. Does anyone know if there is a heirarchy of icons or is the last thing in the cache the icon that is shown? Btw, a YJTB was placed into one of my caches! It was there for about 15 minutes.
  9. I'm not sure if this is a silly question or not. I was reading the photo and essay rules. The photos and essays will be judged with the following criteria: Applicability to Geocaching Experience (30%), Creativity (40%) and Suitability for Advertising & Promotional Purposes (30%). I assume that the "Suitability for Advertising & Promotional Purposes" is for advertising Jeeps. Since Jeep spent some money, they should get something out of it right. But I hope it is for the advertising and promotion of geocaching. You see, I have a Buick Rendezvous that I go geocaching in. I am at a serious disadvantage if I take a photo of my family sitting on the hood of the Buick overlooking the a sunset from the Sierra Nevadas if the judges are all Jeep people. Does anyone think stories or photos not involving Jeeps can win the photo or essay contest?
  10. I am not a lurker, nor am I a poster. I used to read the forums and post replys about 2 years ago. Then I started noticing that given enough time (a couple months or so) the same stuff got said again. I figured I had better places to invest my time. I just opened the forums yesterday for the first time in quite awhile to get an update on the Jeep TB thing.
  11. It is now June 1st! Where are these travel bugs! I noticed that there is a travel bug contest (stories, photos, etc.) on the jeep web page, but I couldn't find anything that would let me know where the yellow jeep TBs are hiding!
  12. I have the Delorme 3-D TopoQuads software (California North). I had it working fine... then I screwed something up. Now when I run it, the map window doesn't show a map, it says "No Controls Specified". Also, on the right side of the screen where the compass and zoom controls usually are, it says, "No Controls Specified". I assume when I uninstalled it then reinstalled it I deleted a dll file or something. I don't know how to fix it. Also, I don't see a tab for options or anything that looks promising. The Prefs tab doesn't look like it has the right stuff. Help! Glenn95630
  13. One problem is, How do you tell public from private land? That may sound silly, but wait... Here in California where I hunt caches some private land is obvious (like my backyard). Some private land is not obvious, you can walk from National Forest land to private land with no fence or signs or anything. Maybe these people don't care if hikers are on their land, I don't know. Maybe they are hunters waiting for more challenging prey. On the flip side, there are geocaches on public BLM land that has barbed wire fence (the government bought the land to allow better access to the American River. It is a great cache and if it wasn't for geocaching I would not have know it was public land. The cache webpage was very clear about the current ownership and had links explaining the history. Bottom line, without meaning to, your cache idea might be luring people to the Big Buck Hunting Club lands or something like that.
  14. What would you consider to be the 3 most common pieces of special equipment? The reason I ask is that it I don't want to tell cache seekers what piece of special equipment they will need (that takes some of the fun out of it), but instead give them a hint ("You will need one of the 3 most common pieces of special equipment") so that they don't make a 30 minute drive and have to turn back immediately. I would be more specific here on the forums, but this cache is almost ready to activate.
  15. ACTMCSLGITHETRI = Accio'ed cache to my couch, signed log, gave it to house elf to replace it.
  16. Here is a cache in Italy http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=29248 When I click "Nearby Caches" I get a list, but this cache http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=29250 doesn't show up. Any ideas why it didn't show up? Glenn95630
  17. First, I don't have a bug in the race and I am just observing the race. Here is one idea for a future race. Since it appears that there is a quasi probability distribution with bug travel that includes outliers (a few bugs very fast, a few bugs very slow), the race isn't too exciting since the probable winner has been narrowed done to just a couple bugs. Start all bugs in a cache in the middle of the country (maybe St. Louis and/or Chicago and/or Dallas). (sidenote I like the idea of multiple start points). Racers would either be on Team West or Team East. Team West would win 5 bugs got to a cache in Seattle and 5 other bugs got to a cache in San Diego (or LA). Team East would win when 5 bugs got to a cache in Florida and 5 bugs got to a cache in Maine (or MA). The concept being to race to the corners of the US. One advantage would be more cachers involved. The rule about 'one state at a time' may have to be rethought since the East has those funny little states and the West has normal sized states. I do realize that this doesn't hold true to the Cannonball movie. I saw the movie as a teenager and can still remember where the Lambourghni driver kept her driver's license, but I do think the Cannonball spirit of cross-country racing can be kept even if the race has teams and only crosses half the country.

I like the tryits. Markwell, I just checked out your website. I understand the sneaker icon, but what is the sneaker-about-to-step-in-poop icon? I'm still waiting on Aquaman. That guy sure does take the long route to Sacramento!
  19. Thank you very much. It looks much better now.
  20. I tried searching the forum for an answer to my question, but I could find an answer so I will post it here. A day and a half ago (Sunday morning) I activated a travel bug http://www.geocaching.com/track/track_detail.asp?ID=1275 I posted an image of the TB. But, the TB page doesn't have the big photo on it. Also, the text is unformatted. I didn't want to do anything fancy, just create a list, but the page breaks aren't there. I assume I could fix all this with html stuff, but I have never done any html. Is there a different button I need to click to make the image be at the top of the page? Also, my TB hasn't made it to the TB gallery yet. I don't know if it matters, but I purchased this TB tag about 2 years ago. Thanks in advance, Glenn
  21. I know these are probably a bit far for most 'Central Valley' cachers, but I thought you might be interested in this list. These caches were placed by Species5618 and some of them look like they have some nice long hikes in the Sierras above the poison oak. Glenn95630 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Copied from River City Geocaching and Dining Society mail list thingy. www.rcgds.net Here are the caches that I have stashed in the past week. They are all on the Georgetown Divide. They have just been approved. 22. Those coordinates sound like the new Round Table Pizza in North Natomas. Probably the reserved room in the back...
  23. I have an eMap GPSr. In my car (Volvo wagon) it locks into the satelites fine when sitting on the dashboard. But, it can't find the satelites when sitting on the dashboard of my wife's car (Chevy Venture Mini-van). In fact, it has better reception on the desk next to the computer in the house than it does in the Venture. Has this happened to you? Any ideas why? Is it the slant of the windshield? Did GM put some anti-satelite-signal film on the windshield? Is it only eMaps and other GPSrs do fine? It makes me think that when I go test driving cars I need to take my eMap with me...
  24. Markwell, What the heck happened? Aquaman was within an hour or two by interstate to reach Altantis when all of a sudden he jumped 1500 miles past Atlantis. Did his get his powers in some other fashion? Did Wonder Woman grab him in her invisible jet? I was watching his web page to see if I could nab him and help him along. Glenn (You may have to provide links and stuff so others can follow my cryptic message.)
  25. Some cars have GPSr units built-in the dashboard consule as a new feature. My brother has one and when we last visited, I played around with it a little, but still have questions. Does anyone out there know if waypoints can be downloaded into the car GPSr?
