  1. Two Sources Texas Geocaching Go to a big Swedish furniture store starting with the letter "I" and pick up one of their paper yardsticks. You have a 36 inch long paper strip you can trim and use. I find it handy to glue one end to a toothpick to use as a handle to remove and easier to roll up tight to replace.
  2. I saw that too on Woot. Note it is the 2006 not 2007. You can input a file into Streets & Trips and it places pushpins on the map. GASK can export the file.
  3. Hi, Welcome My GPS does not show things like description, difficulty, hints, past logs which can give a little extra hints. Some people print out the cache page on paper to take with them while hunting. Going paperless means putting the information in a Palm Pilot, pocket PC or some such portable device to take with them while hunting in the woods. Some of the newer GPS's do have the ability to store more information about a cache than mine. You did not say what model you are using. I have a Magellan SporTrak Pro. Hope this helps. Hope this helps.
  4. We have a Class B van with a similar overhang, but mine is mostly fiberglass with steel frame. My SporTrac Pro works just fine on the dash.
  5. Hi I have the same Palm IIIx with the same 3.3 System. The Mimee sounded like a good program so I just tried it, and it works for me. Had to install the Math Lab too. Thanks for the link to a nifty program. Just give it a try. Like I said it worked just fine on my IIIX and did not use too much memory. If you have Cachemate installed you should already have Math Lab. Happy caching. Jim
  6. I will be 62 this month.
  7. Here is one I made from a real acorn. It will be in the auction at Geowoodstock 4.
  8. Hi 1. Depends on the Palm. Most of the newer ones use USB. My older IIIC uses a serial port. 2. Premium Membership not required. You can save a page at a time and use the free programs to hot sync to your palm. Good luck
  9. I am surprised too, because I am only good at two finger typing. AKA hunt and peck.
  10. Not one, but two red sports cars. I drool. Which one for your cachemobile?
  11. I see you are a premium member. Go to my account, on the right side is a link to build pocket query. You can get up to 500 downloaded to your e-mail. GASK is a good program to convert to palm format using cachemate or to html and use plucker to hot sync to your palm. Look in the FAQ and the software forum for lots of good help with paperless caching. Good luck
  12. Heads Up! I finder for sale on www.woot.com. One day only until sold out.
  13. This is the page I used to build my own . Cable Sounds like you already made yours but I thought I would add more information. Be sure NOT to use 12 volts directly from the cigarette lighter. You need a power supply to reduce it to around 4 volts. I looked at several old cell phone power supplies but they were all too much voltage. I got the "power only" cable from e-bay for not much $$$.
  14. When you do pick up a TB, is it 'bad form' to include the travel bug number in the Log Note for a found cache? If so, why? You need the number to log the bug. Some people log bugs they never had by reading logs or looking at pictures. The number should be available only to people who have actually handled the tag and bug.
  15. I was lucky, with a handle like sodajerk ( I once owned an ice cream store) I was able to find an ice cream cone stamp at a crafts / stamp store. I don't use it on the micro log because it is too big, otherwise stamp and write some notes in the log book. The stores I have been in have hundreds of nifty stamps. My daughter is into stamp art, but that is another hobby (obsession)
  16. 60 I don't look like that picture over there <<< on the left.
  17. Go the Post Office Web Site Post Office and search for zip codes for a city or town. You can even get the little towns. Another way is Google Earth and find a cache near where you are going to be and use that waypoint GCXXXXX as the center point of your pocket query. Good Luck My other way is the same as Elde's tip #3
  18. I know zip about blackberry except I like to eat the ones you pick off the bushes. Does your blackberry use Palm software or a windows type? If it uses palm then cachmate should work. It is free to try and see if it works. As to the second part of your question, I have a Palm IIIx and a IIIc. Older palms are pretty cheap on e-bay or the goodwill store or salvation army, etc. My palms each hold more waypoints than my gps (500). I load both Palm and GPS with the same 500 waypoints and head off to my next adventure. There are several discussions on paperless. One thing to note, the blackberry is expensive and not waterproof, a major loss when dropped in the creek. A cheap palm, while still a loss is much easier on the pocketbook. You said your blackberry was from work but your boss says you were doing what??? when you dropped it.
  19. Sorry to hear you are "hooked". Log your finds at geocaching.com. When you get the cache page on your screen there is a drop down box, one option is Found It. There is a space to tell about your adventure also a link to upload a picture. Happy hunting. On edit, also if you don't find a cache, another option is Did Not Find. Be sure to log your DNF also. It is not a badge of shame, but a badge of courage that you tried. The cache owner gets an e-mail of your log and gives the owner a chance to check up on the cache. It really might be missing.
  20. Good Luck Steve. Be sure to post back to this thread to let us know about your success. If you did not find one, that is OK too. Just post a Did Not Find on the cache page.
  21. Congratulations on your first find. The game (addiction) can be played many ways. Each can do their own trades if you want, or as a team. You could also have individual accounts for the members of your family as well as a team. It is a great family adventure. I wish it existed when my children were younger. We went camping a lot, looked at animal tracks, plants and flowers, bugs, stars and other nature related items. This will get you out and having fun. Just be sure to trade even or trade up.
  22. My very first FTF. No one has found it again. I know I put it back like I found it My first FTF. At the time it was the only cache in the whole county.
  23. Sears would replace the Craftman wrench only if you washed the blood and bone fragments off after removing it from his head.
