I love my H2OC.
At the top of the page is a FAQ. One section links to Airmappers Lowrance Page. Instead of retyping the information here, he has detailed instructions.

I am guessing work shoes are not heavy steel toe boots like some wear to work, but more like mine in an office setting, black dress shoes you also wear to Church.

I think you got it covered on the Lowrance, however I like the GPX to USR tool.

You want a Palm that will connect to YOUR computer. Some of the older Palms only connect via a serial port or a USB adapter (extra $). Also depends if you have Vista. Some have had problems with Vista.
Cachemate is good but I like Plucker and Sunrise better. The pages look like web pages. Cachemate is more of a database. I see you are a premium member so you can get caches 500 at a time with pocket query. A search of the forum will bring up loads of information on PDA's. I have seen them at goodwill and such places.

We were in NYC in Sept. We took a bus tour, open top double decker. My Lowrance H2OC found and then lost positions all day. I wanted a trail of where we went on the bus as we were busy taking pictures and listening to the tour guide. I ended up with a fairly good route, just some gaps.
The GPS not only looks up but also on the horizon to find the satellites and do its calculations. All I have experience is with my Lowrance. Don't know that much about Garmin.
Have fun in NYC, we did.

I use a Treo 650 all the time, it is Palm software for the PDA . Search the forum for paperless caching. My preference is using the free Plucker and the free Sunrise XP. The Cachemate should also work. I just have a 129MB card and it holds thousands of caches. It is not waterproof or even that rugged so take care in the woods.
1.Load your GPX file into GSAK then export to a HTML format
2. Sunrise will convert it to a format Plucker can read and look like web pages.
3. Hot Sync
4. Go caching, no paper.

My Lowrance H2OC has a big bright screen for older eyes to see. Works great too.

I made such a cable. I found the pin out on the internet. I am at work now and I can only get to a few URL's. The rest are blocked. Try a search for magellan cable pinout or such. I will try to look when I get home.

I have the same H20C and love it. Put the information on your card (in groups of up to a thousand). I only have a 2 gig card, but a recent trip to New York, I had detail maps of the states we drove thru as well as about 3 thousand geocaches along the route on the card and a lot of room to spare. If you have GSAK, it also has a Lowrance export file mode.

Hi everyone!
New to this game so don't quite know all the Rules.
While on holiday in Zante, I found a spot with a beautiful sea veiw, windmills, a bar, in short. . . . the perfect spot for a cache.
I took the co-ordinates but don't know how to set this up as a cache site as I can't maintain it.
My question is then, has anyone any good ideas for how to proceed?
Can I set it up as a virtual cache?
Hi Davey,
You really should read the FAQ at the top of the forum, and get to know the rules. There are not many but one is that you have to be able to maintain the cache. Virtual caches are also covered in the FAQ. You might look at Waymarking to tell others of your beautiful view.
Please read the rules, it will be more fun for you.

I have a H2OC and I love it. Large easy to read screen, holds a lock better than my Sport Trac Pro that it replaced. Some say it has a steep learning curve, but I picked it up pretty fast.

If you are using GSAK and Cachemate for your PDA then you don't need Plucker. In GSAK click on file export and export directly into a format that Cachemate understands. Plucker is for HTML (web page) format for your PDA for those that want a web page look on your PDA.

It could not hurt to contact the seller. If no joy there, just look on e-bay for a new battery. or google for palm 505 battery.

Keep it simple and have fun. There are some rules, be sure to read the guidelines in the hiding a cache.

I have a Palm IIIx. Holds hundreds of caches, more than I can find in a day. It does connect with a serial port on my computer. Some new computers do not have a serial port. Look on e-bay, also goodwill (or other charity stores) sometimes have some. Ask around work and friends to see if they have an old one they are not using. Also the Garage Sale Form has some for sale.

I looked at the Palm site and it looks like the Z22 is different. I don't know if two versions can be installed on the same computer. Good Luck.
Paperless and Pocket Queries

Pocket Queries allow you to select up to 500 caches according to criteria you select. They are e-mailed to you. You can run up to 5 a day thus allowing for 2500 caches. That will keep you busy finding them.
You can then load the queries into various software (I use GSAK) to convert the information into something your PDA or other device can understand. This is where paperless comes from. You don't print the information, you read it on your PDA or Pocket PC, or ipod, or blackberry, or smart phone or a compatable GPS receiver.
Search for Cachemate, GSAK, Plucker, Spinner, Sunrise, Cacheberry etc. Look at the FAQ at the top of the forums as well as the links from the Geocaching.com home page. Lots and lots of threads are here.
It works best if you are a premium member.
