I'll try it, thanks. Edit: well, I deleted the maps on the card and re-formatted it, then put about 80Mb of maps back and it seems to be working. Tomorrow I'll upload some more to see if it will hold up. Thanks.

Right now that's the only card I have of that type. If I get another one, should it be a smaller one, like a 256Mb?

I recently purchased a Legend HCx to replace an older Legend. This new one works just fine as long as I don't have the memory card installed, but when it is installed it will get as far as the satellite screen and freeze up. I have left it on in this condition, hoping it was just processing and would snap out of it, for up to 20 minutes. The only thing it will respond to when frozen like this is removal of the batteries. I thought perhaps if I lowered the amount of maps on the card it would help, but no luck so far. The card is a 512Mb Sandisk card, currently with less than 117Mb of info on it. The only time the GPS will get past the Satellite screen with the card in place is when connected to the PC and the map transfer is complete. Has anyone else had this problem? Is this a defective unit, or is this a case of operator malfunction?

I currently have a Magellan GPS 110 (which doesn't see much use), Garmin GPS 12 and a GPS III. I dropped the III and it now turns itself off with the slightest vibration. Not very appealing when mounted on the dashboard. I am therefore thinking of upgrading. Ideally, my new GPS would have a color screen, maps, rechargable batteries, and add-ons such as an external antenna, car charger, and dash- and handlebar-mounts. Price on this mythical beast would be as close to free as possible. Since that isn't going to happen any time soon, I will settle for what I can get. In my short search online today, I came across the Garmin eTrex Legend C. It seems to fit most of my criteria, and is within my budget for this project. Now I am looking for feedback from those who have used it. I am also interested in finding out about other GPS units (I haven't completely decided on the Legend yet) and good retailers, so if you have suggestions about any of these, please let me know.
