  1. First may I ask why you don't load your POIs to the internal memory? There is plenty of available memory. I have over 2K caches with 5 logs each and it's only 25Mb. But if you want to load them to your SD card try this. Not sure if it works as I don't own a Nuvi but I played with a friends Nuvi. On the card while connected via USB create a folder named Garmin, and within that folder create another folder named POI. It would look like Drive:/Garmin/POI, and put the POIs in the POI folder. When booting up it may ask if you want the data saved to the internal drive. You can choose No to keep them on the card. It may ask you this at each boot up. Thanks for the reply. That is bad news for me. That is exactly what I did (create a folder). and it doesn't work. It is like the Nuvi doesn't even know there is a card mounted. Using explorer on the PC all the files are on the card. So, I must have a bad Nuvi.. unless somewhere there is a setting that says to look there at boot up. Thanks for all imput.
  2. Where to? My Locations Custom POIs Should do the trick. Thanks, but That, of course, works when the pois are loaded in the nuvi on board memory...does not nudge the nuvi to look on the SD card. ????
  3. Newbie (to macro) question. I have a Nuvi 350. It appears that I am getting the file uploaded to the Nuvi SD card (where I request it to go). But I do not know how to get Nuvi to see the SD card and know there is interesting stuff there! Any short cut help appreciated. Ken
  4. Another "what they said". I have the same combination and Cachmate IS the solution.
  5. What a timely thread. I will be going to Oz mid-April thru Jun. Be utilizing a light aircraft most of time, hiking, caching, birding and on and on. My question is using the GPS with a laptop for moving mapping. Any suggestions/recommendation for software (i.e. OZExplorer, ???) and map sources (hopefully for free as in usaphotomaps and the like) Thanks in advance for all input from this very resourceful and helpful group.
  6. This actually being done at Copper Mountain ski area in Colorado. They are using an arm band that has been manufactured to hold the GPS. Actually pretty neat, at the end of the day they give you a map that show where on the mountain you skied along with a huge amount of data. (i.e. max vertical, number of runs, speed avg, fastest..etc etc.)
  7. I downloaded both Mapadvisor and Quakemap (free) some time ago, but have not had time to utilize them. Now with your notice, I attempted and, of course, can not use Quake map because there are blank cells all over demanding registration. I just tried to update Quakemap (at the prompt to do so) and I still have many blank cells everywhere,,unuseable. I fear that Mapadvisor will generate the same mess on my PDA and so hesitate to install it. Short of coughing up your fees...any suggestions.
  8. I agree..Cachmate is THE Palm answer. And I also would like to find a mapping solution for the Palm. (perhaps should be a new thread). The commercial ones are way expensive (i.e. Fugawi and others). Anyone have experience with shareware/freeware mapping software for the Palm OS?
  9. Cachemate....reduces Pocket Queries to PDA in fewest steps and has great support. Well worth the fee.
  10. Sorry about being not too specific. GPS= Yellow Garmin. map ware= AllTOPO What i wish to do; having created a list of waypoints on the map (which have altitude, I looked), i would like to then plot (graph) the altitude profile of those points. These are points not picked up by the GPS (except I have uploaded them). I know I can create a route by manually moving them on the GPS. However, most profile software I have looked at wants a track log (file) to begin working with. That is were I am trying to get to. I was just hoping to find a "touch the button" way rather than wading through them all. Thanks
  11. Maybe a bit off topic, but the knowledge rests here. I need a utility that I can use to convert Gramin waypoints into a track log preferably (or a route log). What the end result I need is to try and produce a elevation profile (altitude profile) graph from waypoints which were generated in a mapping (AllTOPO) program. I can upload the waypoints to GPS..but appeaently need a trackfile to use in profile utilities. Any Help will be much appreciated.
  12. here is my FWIW. I have a palm Vx and like it for many functions. However, after caching with it for awhile (by the way..go get Cachmate..it is the one stop king!) However, I got a Sony Clie recently to cache with. Why... the Clie has four times the on board memory, it has twice the speed processor and the screen is twice the reslolution and it is in color. maps much easier to read. all Palm appications (well most) work with it as it funs the Palm 4.1 OS. good luck,,i would also agree, go touch, feel and play with them.
  13. Just a bump on this thread...wondering if Sandaals is in fact, living up to his tag line...turning great ideas into abandoned project since 1999. Is this one gone?
  14. Good point...in this world old maybe yesterday. I have a Palm Vx with 4.1. No color.
  15. Mapadvisor, After visiting both referenced sites, it appears that your offer is only for new generation Palm os..that is just the newer Tungestin and Clie. Is that correct or am I missing something in your offer that would work for previous (4.x) models? tjej
  16. What about Summit firmware into Legend? Same issues?
  17. I agree with sledgehampster above. After much research and testing/playing....CacheMate is the way to do this; ....simply, easily and with great support for registered members. And registration is on the short list of best bargins around!
  18. This was a very informative thread. My questiion is...within the past 2-3months there has been a number of upgrades to the programs mentioned here. I was wondering of the experienced and knowledged ones here have a update to their opinions and use comppinations.
  19. I may be way of base here...but reviewing your web site, I am wondering if there is a future of other than Garmin iQue 3600 mapping tools. When and what to come?
  20. Thanks for the replies to date. Need more. Quakemap.com.....it appears your product is only for Pda with color. Is that correct? Do you see future of including the far larger population of PDA that are not color?
  21. need help finding a mapping tool for use with a palm. What are the most popular one used by this crowd? Quakemaster? Cetus? USAPhotomaps? GPS Master? OziExplorer? Others?? either feeware, Shareware or commercial ware. For a somewhat newbie this path (mapping) is very complex. All assistance appreciated. Tjej
  22. Anybody had any experience with a freeware tool called "GPS Master". It seems to be of similar function to Cetus GPS. I have searched the forums and find no mention of it. More info can be found here: http://oleg.belousov.com/palm/gps_master/
  23. WHAT HAPPENED TO THIS THREAD. TRIED TO FIND CURRENT INFO ON GEE ENGINUITY SITE WITH NO LUCK. GOOD PROJECTS..BUT CAN'T FIND ANYTHING CURRENT. WHAT DID I MISS? TJEJ
