  1. Ready to add a bit of "art" to your Waymarking game? If so? Go out hunt for " 5 Art o Mats" near you. http://www.Waymarking.com/waymarks/default...7b-1639a9d2525c If you place 5 waymarks to this category, you will receive a genuine piece of art that is vended from these machines. Once you have added these waymarks email me an address and your piece of art will be mailed to you
  2. Once group management is up I certainly would love to assist with this category.
  3. No news regarding Artesian wells, becoming a category. I have not heard from TPTB that this would make a ggod one. But maybe if more people say this would be a good one they might let me manage it along with my other ones.
  4. Sub categories do not exist, see this Jeremy posted this Quite some time ago: " I keep seeing this recommendation for a sub-category. There is no such thing as a proposed sub-category per se. When you make a request for a new waymark category you do just that - Ask for a waymark category to be created and you become the manager. " but this would make a nice variable
  5. My advice Look up geo caching events in your area, there cache page usually also tells you it is the local park /Denny's or pizza joint. Then drive with your gps and meet some real lovely people who would be more tha happy to show you first hand. If that is not possible a local Cabelas or some parks are now offering GPS instructional courses. For me that was the only way I figured things out by being shown.
  6. I was just succesful in adding 3 separate waymarks for one location. I am playing a game with myself sort of. Attemting to find and create a waymark that fits more than one category. For example I have just added http://www.Waymarking.com/waymarks/details...bc-122c867aa9ac although not approved yet that one is for the Category "Immortalized in lyris" and then http://www.Waymarking.com/waymarks/details...c6-d47e872610a5 for Roadside Attractions as it certainly is that and for the final waymark http://www.Waymarking.com/waymarks/details...aa-d0c733fd755d Yep this is the Graffitti Category but notice this graffitti site encourages the visitor to do their own graffitti and invite you to bring the spray paint. Is anyone else playing this way? This was my first 3/for
  7. There is nothing stopping a Category manager from setting the requirements to email an answer ; but no one has done that yet, but it is possible. I personally plan that when more art o Mat waymarks are created that I may change the requirements for finders of those waymarks, but the category needs to be more populated before that can happen. I do plan on having finders send an email regarding what kind of art they found in the art o mat, maybe even who the designer was for that particular waymark.
  8. Hello I proposed this "National Landmarks in this thread http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...Historic+Places I did this shortly after after wilsonjl proposed this exact waymark Category . And if any one should be Manager of that category they should be as they proposed it first here http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...Historic+Places
  9. Well mine at gc.com is not a virtual rip off http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...af-c6e4f6eca06a I will have one or two submitted for them on Waymarking before Easter , but mine involve lots of locations. So that the finders get a real education
  10. I totally agree with what robert & the blue quasar said , I could not have said it better myself. For instance the category for lighthouses. i LOGGED FINDS FOR ONLY ONE OF THOSE BABIES WHEN IT WAS ON GC.COM And I could do nothing even if I had been there because someone else already claimed the find. Now not only can anyone who visits a lighthouse can either create the waymark or log a find. And even if they come back year after year ( Scenery changes with seasons ; so will the pics, so you can log again and again, and viewrs will havee an up to date history of that waymark (Virtual) and you can create locationless now. I had always wanted to create one for B&B lighthouses but could not under gc.com, but I recently did just that underr this new format. Some of these places have educational places included in your stay ee the recent B&B lighthouse created in my category. It has a nature center within. As to being unique plkaces to visit. I challenge you personally 'terri & Billy to go and find an art o mat. ( These are totally unique and everyone is differrent. I think your problem is that the site still is in beta and has not been populated yet to what it can be.
  11. I for one do not specifically like all the generic waymarks placed in the MC D category, but if I were traveling this would come in handy for a quick bite to eat. ( Especially if the kidies were with us. I personally have a waymark to add to that category it is a MCD that is a train, I personally will not create the generic ones but themed MC d's now thats another story. The one in a steamboat on the Missippi now that is another I would waymark if I get down there to snap a photo or the one that is a greenhouse up in the Northeern states or the one out west that is a saloon. Now thaose I would create. But the regular old MC D I will stay away from but I think it is good to be in this site as I said before I think in a couple of years Waymarking target audience is not just us from the geo community. I think that in time a broader community of waymarkers will enjoy these typwwe of categories because I think this site was reated not just from us who geocache but for the masses.
  12. I did ask my Groundspeak contact a couple of times about making those categories but never heard back. So yes, I'm waiting till the rollout of the updated Waymarking software so that I can do it myself. Patty Great I can not wait for your category I think it is really cool, my grandkids will love this one.
  13. As a category manager for NJ Historical Markers I am planning on running something for Creators as well as for waymark visitors I plan to say something like this for the waymark visitors: To visit and photograph yourself and a mascot that you have created for this task with 25, 50, 100, 500 historical markers over one calendar year. If you start after April 1st (this date is not the start date just an example), you cannot backdate your visits to historical markers. At the end of 1 year from the start all participants who achieve ther 25,50 ,100, or the 500 visits would receive something of value for there effort. I have yet to decide on what. For my art6 o mat category I am thinking of offering one of the $5 boxes of art that are sold in those machines. I just have not decided how many waymarks someone must create before sending off their art product. Do these sound like good ideas?
  14. Wintertime This is my two cents worth, I think you are under a misimterpretation from TPTB, You propose a category it is accepted and as has happened they email you and then you create what you have done and then you click it to go live. TPTB THEN set up the taxonomy, and place them were it fits ( What you are calling sub-categories) . Jeremy posted this Quite some time ago: " I keep seeing this recommendation for a sub-category. There is no such thing as a proposed sub-category per se. When you make a request for a new waymark category you do just that - Ask for a waymark category to be created and you become the manager. For example, my wife really enjoys factory tours. So I suggest the waymark category "Factory Tours" and put it through this process. If it goes past 2/3 rule (and possibly, as suggested, passes the veto rights of Groundspeak), it gets listed and the category is transferred. At that point it will be Groundspeak's role to put it in the taxonomy of the site, though suggestions as to where this goes is welcome. What many folks are asking for in the way of a subcategory is really a waymark variable. For example, a type of blog is an option for the blogger category. With these variables you can further filter out information within that waymark category. They are not broken out into subcategories of Personal, War, etc. blogs. The process outlined above helps better define the waymark category, which is turning out to be a good idea. It also makes sure the waymark category manager really wants to manage this category or if it is just a whim. From there the category can be further upgraded/downgraded to fit within a certain threshold. For a good example the McDonalds category has been severely downgraded and shouldn't show up in the directory unless you decide to show them all. This is illustrating that even categories that are listed can possibly be downgraded to obscurity. I think they have been waiting for you. Might I suggest that you make proposals for both of what you are calling Disneyland & Walt Disney World. when those categories are accepted then TPTB place them in the approiate place . Or you could wait until the roll out and create these two new Categories at that time. As to populating the category, there has been discussion of adding data banks to some categories, maybe this is what you need.
  15. Just my 2 cents I am not sure this should have a category all its own as there seems to be only 15 of these sites of these sites. Yes they are in several states but unless I am missing something this is too small for a category by itself, that is not to say that theseare not interesting and should be waymarked but maybe under some other topic. as the topic to me is to small.

    Sba

Hey can anyone tell me what the letters SBA mean?
  17. A cache popped up in a zip code search I did. And it is a traveling cache. IT was only created 3/6/06. Is this allowed? What would you do? I choose not to embarrass the owner by posting its name or page. Just would like your opinions?
  18. Propose your category in the other thread, Categories are being and have been selected from that thread.
  19. yep, this should become a category. I sure hope so, I can lget to Maryland quickly.
