  1. I haven't gotten much caching done in recent months and have unfortunately ended up with 3 or 4 trackables I haven't been able to move along -- not to mention the unregistered ones I personally haven't yet sent out. This is, I'm sure, a source of some frustration for the trackables' owners, so I have a proposition: My muggle wife and I are spending this weekend doing a "Clean Sweep" of our house, taking everything out of it, sorting things into KEEP/TOSS/GIVE AWAY, and have invited friends and family to come check out what's there and ask if they can have any of it. Why not make it an informal TB swap and caching supply scavenge as well (since I'm too late to register an official Event)? We should be active from 11AM to 6PM this coming Saturday and Sunday, February 8 & 9, so send me a message from my profile for my home coordinates if you're interested. Thanks! evi1chef's profile
  2. Crazy Aaron's Puttyworld just posted the following ebay listing on their Facebook page, for 10 of the round tins they no longer use for their products: 10 Crazy Aaron Thinking Putty Tins My son has some of this Thinking Putty, and has a lot of fun making it do weird stuff with the magnets I bought for caching , so I can vouch for the quality of the containers. Of course, he told me this morning that he took the putty to bed with him last night, so now I get to figure out how to get it out from between the sheets and his pajamas. If this post doesn't fit Guidelines, please let me know. I don't work for Crazy Aaron's or anyone associated with them, so am not trolling for business. I'm just not certain whether this is inappropriate use. Thanks!
  3. I don't tend to do things halfway, so as my first geocaching event I'm hosting what appears to be the only 10 Year! gathering in the SF Bay Area (I could be wrong about that -- no pointing and laughing). If you're in the area, please come on by our potluck event Saturday, May 1 and enjoy food, drinks, a TB swap, local caches within easy walking distance and a raffle for various ... things. Check out GC2582H for current details. Watchlist the event and you'll get notices of my updates as plans solidify. Thanks, and I hope to see many of you there!
  4. This might be my favorite, if only for the memories it carries with it: SABSA I hope it actually gets to complete its mission.
  5. I just saw my first mission cards yesterday. The idea hadn't even occurred to me, and at least two of my TB's would probably benefit from them.
  6. Just activated this one, which will go in the final mystery spot of an appropriately themed cache series around my county.
  7. Sweet! I'm going to a haunted house TB swap on Halloween and hope to see something like this there.
  8. That's really quite ... stunning? Very cute, indeed. I, too, enjoy Studio Ghibli, and am sorry I won't likely be anywhere near enough to your TB to snag it as it travels.
  9. That's really cool! I can see how I'm probably going to get addicted to TBs. I only just began caching in August, and already I have 5 bugs, 4 of which have been released. Not sure any of them are especially cool, but figured I'd throw them out here. An Fear (my car) Langdon's Daughter Marvin A.R.E. Zanzibar Buck-Buck McFate
  10. For that price, I don't think you can beat it. Some Geocacher's reviews here: http://www.geocaching.com/reviews/gps_garm...trex-venture-hc You're probably better off with a "real" GPS than a cell-phone, though if your phone has a data plan it can be an excellent accessory for "paperless" caching. Your Blackjack, or the aforementioned Venture HC? Dunno about the Blackjack, but the Venture will! Awesome, thanks!
  11. I guess I don't understand. What is the problem with the Geko? The Geko is fine for what I'm doing right now, caching in an urban setting with primarily easy drive-up hides. My initial frustration at trying to figure out point-to-point navigation using the compass feature has since given way to a better understanding of how it works. My concern is for when I go, say, into state or county parks with trails that don't appear on Google Maps, meaning I have to guess at how to get to the hide until I'm very close to it. And if I ever feel adventurous and decide to look for the really difficult hides in near-virgin terrain, I'm definitely going to want something that at the very least can give me a little glowing arrow that says "go this way".
  12. I'm new to geocaching (bought a Garmin Geko 201 *and* joined the site back in 2003, but only just began playing last month). The Geko has been okay so far, but I'm concerned about how well it'll serve me in forest settings. Navigating by compass is okay, but sometimes I'd just like to put the coordinates in and let the device direct me. I got the email from REI this morning about their Labor Day GPS sale, and am considering buying the eTrex Venture HC for $124.99. I also have a Blackjack II with AT&T, but don't currently have GPS enabled. Any advice? Advantages/disadvantages? Will it lead me to a preprogrammed spot? Thanks for any and all help for the newbie.
