  1. I was researching getting a new GPS unit online and saw the term geocaching come up several times. I did a Google search and read about it on Wikipedia. I had heard about letterboxing years before, so I figured it was similar only with the use of a GPSr. That is how I got into it. I never came across anybody doing this in the field, and I never heard any calls on it. There are hundreds of hidden caches in the city I work in though, so people around here (Beaverton Oregon) must be good at being stealthy. It was nice to see the officer let down the "cop poker face" after getting a sense that were not doing anything wrong. It is a newer-younger crowd out there now, and sometimes they dont do so good at shifting gears. Jim
  2. I hope and assume you are just kidding,,, that would be a bad idea. I remember when I first hit the street in 91 we never looked under our cars while doing pre-shift car checks. Now, in the terrorism world we live in, it is part of the daily check. Again, I know your just kidding,,, but just in case somebody saw that and thought it would be cute. You would be surprised and some of the stuff people will do, thinking it is cute or funny and not meaning anything by it, but missing the obvious potential appearance. Its a different world
  3. The quote above from the cache wisperer says in Russian, "I not the policeman, but I look good in the military [uni]form".
  4. I have since discovered that it appears to be a zoom issue. I found at least one, where the line didnt show up but if I zoomed out one click it would show up. Seems like a site glitch,,, which is at least a relief that I have not made a mistake somewhere on the logs... James779
  5. I am using a coin to track my cache finds - something I have discovered appears to be fairly common . I didnt know about this until I already had over 50 finds. So I bought a coin I liked and went back to the very begining and wrote notes to drop and then retrieve the coin on the date of the find. Now when I go to that geocoin page and use the "view Map" feature, I noticed that the lines that connect the caches does not show up for a few of them. There are about 4-5 finds that show up (the number tag is there) but no purple lines running to or from them . Anybody know what is causing this? I went through my logs and tried to see if I screwed up somewhere but dont see anything. James779
  6. I noticed this too,,, I thought, 'well that was a step backwards'. What is the reason behind that? It was better the other way. Now not only does the page reload but you have to scroll back down and find your place again.
  7. It would be better than not getting out of the car! I say cache on! james779
  8. LEO of 18 years in Beaverton Oregon. I started a Police car TB, whose mission is to be photographed with police officers. It has gotten off to a good start in my area with some good pics so far. Love the thread... http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=1483946
  9. I have a Garmin emap that I was using up until recently when I got a 60CSx. I have debated selling it on ebay or keeping it as a spare. If I sell it it comes with the original 8 meg cartridge, as well as a 128 meg cartridge I got for it, a case, a car charger cord, a USB connector (with the disk for the drivers), windshield holder, and the cradle for a RAM handlebar mount (the rest of the mount can be bought online), and Metroguide V.7. I got it from my father in law who used it a few times in the years that he had it. I used it often for the few months I had it before upgrading. If you are interested then look up emap on the web and you can get all the particulars about it. Anybody have an idea of what this package should go for?
  10. I just got the La-Cross BC900 and 16 of the Sanyo 2700's. I am really pleased with the charger so far. Still learning some of the stuff. Can the BC900 tell you what the charge level of a battery is when you first put it in? I noticed that when I put some old Energizer 2500's in it, it would show a voltage around 1.3, and they had been charged a couple weeks ago. I am trying to figure out how to translate that into what percentage of the charge does it have. Anybody know?
  11. See I spent twenty years getting paid to be observant in order to protect folks like you. If you pay attention, you might learn something!!!!! that seems very condecending...
