First we decide on what direction we would like to go. Than check on what caches are available at this time of year(still A lot of snow in some areas). Than I will do a PQ and we will decide which caches to go for. Download everything to the GPS and PDA pack whatever we think we might need for the day (normally too much) and out the door we go. Simple huh

What is an appropriate/average FTF prize?
The Pathman replied to razorbackpete's topic in How do I...?
What ever you would like to find and can afford. For us it's the find not the prize so even if there was nothing special for FTF the cache would do it for us. LOL... We're easy to please -
Well welcome to both of you and may the addiction be with you

What's kept you from caching?
The Pathman replied to Bunganator's topic in General geocaching topics
For the most part, WORK..... -
How much do you spend on containers?
The Pathman replied to lacazg's topic in General geocaching topics
Depends on the location of the hide. I will use just about anything that is reasonably water tight to something like a lock & lock that is waterproof. As for cost well that again depends on the hide but for a single container not more than $10... I can get ammo cans locally for that or less and most of the plastic containers have cost less than $3. Garage sales and the local rummage room are a great source. -
We would sign the log and move on to the next one. No big deal...

Having issues creating caches
The Pathman replied to Jolly Roger's topic in General geocaching topics
Gorilla Glue has yet to let me down but I haven't tried it with magnets -
We are some what new at this but just today picked up number 50 and got to meet a new local cacher at the same time so it was a fun time. We also have 2 FTF's to our credit.

.3 miles There's a micro almost next door and we haven't gotten around to finding it yet.............

Just wondering if anyone has a data cable for a Garmin GPS 12XL that they would like to sell. If so you can respond here or E-mail me through my account. Thanks

We did 10 yesterday and that took all day. Most everything around here requires driving many miles between caches and then doing a fair amount of walking so we had a very good day getting what we got.

Why is it so important to be FTF?
The Pathman replied to SnowBird690's topic in General geocaching topics
IMHO..... No. We do have 2 FTF but there was no race or rush to get them. The first had been listed for a couple of weeks before we took the time to go for it and the second had been listed for over a month. Yes, it was fun to be first but not all that important. -
If you don't mind having your real name all over the internet, then go for it. What ever you are comfortable with.

We try to make ours look like where ever they are hidden. Caches will blend in with their surroundings very closely so look for something that just doesn't look right such as A pile of rocks or branches and bark that look like they were placed... It takes time to learn what to look for and every hider had their own way of doing things. I have seen film containers camo'd to look like the piece of equipment they were attached to. You couldn't tell the differance until you touched it!! Start with larger, easier hides than work your way up to the more difficult ones that way you get used to what to look for As far as containers go..... Just about anything that is water tight and will stand up to the elements. No bags or things like that, but ammo boxes, plastic containers ranging from peanut butter jars to tupperware are very common. Have fun and welcome

I've only noticed it when I'm logging multiple finds. It will sometimes take a few seconds before the numbers change. Just refresh your browser and you should see the correct stats.

We had one watch our search with A knowing smile on his face.... I think he was dissapointed when we found the cache as quickly as we did.

Before we went paperless, I just printed out the sheets and put them in a small 3 ring binder that we took in the car. If there was a hike involved than we took that sheet with us. I got tired of the ink costs and finally went with a cheap PDA . I will still sometimes print out a section of Google Maps so my navigator has an idea as to where we are going

I live in a very small town also so all I would do is walk down to city hall and ask the Mayor. If he wasn't in than I'd walk across the street to the bus barn and ask him I told you it was a small town...

There is one over here on the Columbia River that requires a boat. It's near Pateros. I have also seen several others scattered around the state bus as I don't have a boat I haven't bothered to search them out

When we changed our name it was very straight forward with no problems as long as you follow the directions. It only took a couple of days and they changed everything A great bunch of people there at Groundspeak!!
-
Yep, It's real easy. Just follow the directions and send your E-mail The great folks at Groundspeak will take care of everything. IT only took a couple of days for ours to get taken care of

Like he said, I run the GPS and she is "The Finder" Once you get used to the way people hide things in your area it will get easier. That is until you run into a real cleaver hide then it will most likely take you several tries before you find it

I would answer your question if I could, But... And I think we all love wandering around looking for containers filled with cheap trinkets
