Spend some time getting used to your GPS and how it works than go and have fun. Like the others have stated, go for the easier ones first and don't let DNF's get you down as they are part of the game
-
Yep, I'm afraid so. It might be usable but you would be better off getting a newer unit.

Welcome to the addiction We hope you enjoy it as much as we do

E-mail sent. We hope it helps

We use Magellan's and normally are within 10 to 20 feet of a cache. We have been down to 0' on a couple of occasions and been right at the cache but that is rare. We're happy with anything inside of 20' We use the map screen and just follow the arrow and watch the "Distance To" when we get to within 20' feet or so than it's mostly just using your eyes and the Geoforce...

New to geocaching, Need software advice
The Pathman replied to cansv's topic in GPS technology and devices
Most around here use Cachemate and it only costs $8. It's simple and easy to use -

To answer your origional question, Ground speak has always had my orders shipped within 48 hours and I usually have them here in only 2 days but I do live only 5 hours from the Lilly Pad The shipping charges are just what it costs them to package and ship it to you. The others have supplied the links so I won't

Get the cheap Palm that way when it gets dropped off a cliff or into a lake or river you're not out the big bucks... Don't know about you but I can afford to pay $20 for a new used palm before I could a high end phone

Welcome Let us know how many finds it takes you to become addicted like the rest of us
-
You can add our vote in favor of that change. We have only gone after two that turned out to be nano's and found both but it would have been nice to know that in advance.....

The first few caches were at least 1 DNF before the find and we had 3 DNF's just recently on a very great but nasty hide It took us a total of almost 3 hours over a thee day period looking in a 50' area before we finally found it. We haven't had one since, but we're sure that won't last much longer. It gets easier. We used those early hard finds to hone our Geosense plus reading about the different hides and containers people here have made, used and found has helped a lot. It's all for fun and when you finally find that elusive cache the feeling of satisfaction is something that can't be described.

We have an old 12XL and it will only get you to within 50' or so. We ended up buying 2 newer units and have been cache happy ever sense Try your old one and see. If you know someone with a newer unit, see if you can borrow it or have them go with you. Ya never know, they might also get addicted. FYI, our units are Magellan eXplorist 400's and they work just great and cost under $100 each.

SWAG finds at Garage Sales
The Pathman replied to Team Gingerbread's topic in General geocaching topics
Garage sales are great. We get containers and lots of swag at them. Our local rummage room at the senior center is also a good source and all of it is better than what you get at the dollar store -
Newly addicted Enjoy as it's great fun!!!

What is the state of geocaching in your local area?
The Pathman replied to spelldog's topic in General geocaching topics
Not too bad around here but considering the snow cover still in the surrounding hills it will be a bit before that many new caches are placed. Had a new one placed yesterday with two finds already and we will be going after it in a couple more days. Folks just aren't in that great a hurry around here so even a FTF can wait for over a week in some cases. -
LOL... I know the feeling. My wife just got her new unit and can't wait to show me up
-
This should get the point across

We only listen to music while in the car on the drive to and from Pink Floyd Aerosmith The Cult Black Stone Cherry Rick Wakeman Just to name a few. On the hunt, no tunes other than what mother nature provides
-
LOL... That would save a lot of answering to muggles

Old ski poles with the baskets removed work well and are very cheap Around here you can find them at yard sales for a couple of bucks
