  1. Yep, on sale now. Just ordered mine Online, they look great and there is a link through thecachingplace.com that has a quick movie clip showing the manufacturing process. I think that that is just the coolest thing And in response from an earlier post to this thread, I did read that they were going to have this available as a regular stock item, plus they will be offering interchangeable bezels in the furture, which I also think is a great idea. There is even a place on the site for you to submit ideas for your own bezel design. I didn't know if they were going to offer these in different finishes, but I really like the one they have. My wallet is hoping that that is the only one they'll be offering right now.
  2. ______________________________________________________________________ I'd love to go. It's been a life-long dream of mine and some years ago, I probably could have done it. I didn't take the opportunity when I had the money and was in shape: now I have neither I learned a very valuable lesson because of that; to live life like you only get the one chance to do everything you want, because you never know - it might in fact be.
  3. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Thank you for your input Naomi It's pretty cool to have people from all over the world in the forum. From what you wrote in YOUR post, it sounds as if nebukatneza may be onto something. Why would someone take a coin a year in advance? If I were going to Everest and thought about taking a geocoin with me (and wanted to move someone elses coin instead of starting one of my own), why tie up their coin for a whole year? If this person's health or finances changes over the next 12-months, the trip might have to be cancelled. Why not wait for a couple of weeks before leaving on such a trip before moving someone's coin. It might be that after a year of "coin purgatory", the coin would have been forgotten by the original owner. Even still, if the person just stole the coin, why leave the note at all? It sounds like the company in question didn't know anything about it, so it probably wouldn't help them with advertizing. If 30 coins have turned up missing without being logged, in that same area, and with the same kind of note, it sounds like your coin is gone. If this is the case, it's a shame. Because the person(s) in question would have known to look up the coordinates from the mother site, then maybe they would stop by this forum to see if there was any mention of this "coin move" on the forum and clue everyone in on what the story is. If it's true that the coin is going to Everest though, then I think that would be awesome.
  4. Did you try putting it in water? That floats in water sounds pretty cool! ________________________________________________________________ Great pic of a difficult subject to photograph. I'm glad to see that this topic is getting some attention; I really didn't think it would take off at all. Kudos to you CoalCache.
  5. ______________________________________________________________________________ That's a freaking brilliant idea! I'm wonderig if you would have to "counterweight" the other side to offset the weight of the magnetic wire.
  6. -------------------------------- Thanks Keewee, I got it BADDDDDDDDDD
  7. Hey All: I'm Michael, A.K.A. Nashuan. I've posted some of this info a few times, so please bear with me. My addiction of geocoin collecting started when I was looking for a specific kind of wrought iron grill work, depicting the points of a compass. I was on Ebay and plugged in the term "compass rose". I did find what I was looking for (remember these words), but I also found some 2006 gold Compass Rose thing. What the heck was this????? I opened the auction and was instantly hooked. Although I had already owned a GPS for a couple of years for hiking, I had never heard of caching. Being insatiably curious (good trait for a geocacher), I followed the information trail to geocaching.com. I started out buying coins from the auction block at (for me) a blistered pace, starting around February of this year and though finances have slowed me down a little, I'm always looking for coins of interest. When I found the "geocoin Discussions" forum, I started to follow it, hoping to get a little insight on what designs are coming down the pike. And though I have been finding that, my real surprise has been in discovering the forum community. I can't tell you how impressed I've been reading the posts and responses from all you good people. I love the cointests and the concept of mystery coins, but most importantly, I am most impressed with the free exchanges of ideas, the helpfullness of the members. I hope to get to know you all in the upcoming months/years. As for me, I am (currently) 45 years old, LOVE photography, woodworking, stained glass work, backpacking, scuba diving, artist signed post card collecting and a myriad of other interests. The rest of me will have to wait, I just realized I'm late for work. Cache On! Michael
  8. , , , , , , , , , , , , That being said, I went through our inventory and did a count of our travelers. Out in the wild we have- 20 TB's, 5 of those are missing 39 geocoins, 7 of those are missing 21 geotags, 3 of those are missing They are traveling all across the USA as well as the U.K., Austria and the Czech Republic. Our advice is ,get some out there and enjoy their travels! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks for posting your stats showing how many missing items you have versus items released. I've been curious about how many of these thing disappear. Hopefully, the missing will return to the game. It looks like you're missing between one in four to one in seven.
  9. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Awesome pic.
  10. Post #4 from Steel City Babes has a list of manufacturers, several of which visit this forum pretty regularly.
  11. A thread was started a day or two ago that you might want to look over: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...t&p=3468087 There should be enough there to get you started. Geocaching and geocoin collecting are both great hobbies and people are very helpful on this forum should you have any questions.
  12. __________________________________________________________________________ Wish I could help, but I haven't set one up yet myself How's the weather up there? It's going down to 40 degrees tonight in Southern New Hampshire. The misses and I are thinking about hitting Bar Harbor in June or July to pick berries and hit a few caches around Acadia.
  13. I just tried it and it loadded fine at 5:20 PM Eastern Time.
  14. Great suggestion, I forgot about the GCC.
  15. _______________________________________________________________________ Besides getting them from the manufacturer, you could also find them on Ebay, but may (almost certainly will) pay more for them. If you put in the search term "geocoin", there is usually between 800 and 1000 coins available at any one time. Even if you don't buy from there, it will give you an idea of some of the designs available. Keep in mind that the ones at auction are often no longer available from the manufacturer (sold out) and are generally available only through Ebay or by trade on one of these forums. If you buy through one of the manufacturers, you will often have to pre-order and patiently wait for several weeks to a couple of months by the mail box. However, they are usually cheaper this way. Regardless of which way you go, I would suggest that you look around a little to see what types of coins you would be interested in. There is a WIDE variety of them to choose from and it's kind of neat to find a series that relates to your tastes/personality. If your are into dirt bike racing, if you want to collect one from each state or country, if you want to promote autism awareness, whatever, there is a coin out there right now, or soon will be, that interests you. I stumbled onto geocoin collecting by accident after putting in a search for Eaby under "Compass Rose" (completely unrelated to geocaching), and found the 2006 Gold Compass Rose. I was instantly hooked on collecting, before I ever heard about caching. They are beautiful coins in my opinion, but they may not be for you. Find what you like and fire up the credit card. One word of caution, and I can't stress it enough is that geocoin collecting is highly addictive. Let this serve as a warning label of sorts. Be prepared for bad cases of the jitters when the postman comes and your box is still empty, the word "sleep" will cease to exist for you, and your bank accound will some how attain more zeros than you thought possible (no one in front either). But if you decide to proceed, geocoin collecting is a fun, great obsession (I mean hobby). There are some great people on this board that will help you along and maybe you'll get into designing your own after a while. Good Luck,
  16. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- I would hope that you would reconsider not making a V2. I think that you've been doing an awesome thing for the geocoin community and it would be a shame to let a couple of bad apples diminish that generousity. I was following a thread about a week back that talked about the selling of mystery coins and I think the overwhelming numbers of people who spoke out against such a practice shows that most would feel the same way if they saw one of their own mystery coins/gifts hit the block. I understand and agree with your frustration, but I would encourage you (if you decided to reconsider) to just not give the people selling your coins a second bite at the apple. I really love the design of V1 and love seeing the posts pop up when someone unexpectedly receives on in the mail.
  17. ______________________________ Glad to hear they came in.
  18. Congratulations mom and dad on the birth of your daughter, Jillian. May you all have the greatest of blessings, always. Enjoy.
  19. I made comments to this thread earlier which were not supportive of the premise to explore new coin designs and materials, and I would like to apologize to Coalcache for my unwarranted sarcasm. My limited experience with coal led me to believe that this was not a serious posting of a new coin material. I enthusiastically support the use of materials other than metal for geocoins and in the spirit of what I have read from other posters to this forum, I should have been more supportive. Having said that, I would respectfully like to offer a few comments on the coin. If you're going to do a coal-themed coin, I think the design of the compass rose and pick and shovel is a great choice, but I've got to tell you honestly, that I think such a coin is too dark for most people's taste and would only sell to a limited audience. You would have a hard time photographing it for those interested in selling on Ebay or for trade and I think people like to see some color in general, even if only subtle striations as if the coin were made of stone. The exception to this being perhaps coins (or trackable gems) made in a single color or clear. Again, I'm sorry
  20. she not having a baby goat shes having a child ------------------------ I know, I know. I was just trying to work in the "kid"ding joke.
  21. Congratulations Tsun and thank you for holding such an innovative cointest. I loved reading the entries - very creative. I didn't have time to come up with anything, but still wanted to say thanks.
  22. When is this kid coming? I think she is just stalling to enhance the drama. Just "kid"ding, we're just anxious to get official word of the good news.
  23. Has everyone gotten their 2008 orders? I haven't seen hide nor hair of mine. I notice a bunch on eBay too. Have they all been shipped yet? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? ________________________________________________________ I was wondering the very same thing. I saw a bunch on Ebay over the past week or two and nothing but dust in my mailbox But yesterday they finally arrived and are safely tucked away for now. I bought a couple of extra ones to auction off, but with the market being saturated (I saw one seller set up 20 auctions, almost like machine gun fire), I'm going to have to wait for a while. have faith, they're probably going to make it to your house in the next day or so, they're usually very good about getting my orders our quickly.
  24. Hey Tsun: Great idea, I think enough people love guardian angels that they would sell. I think you would need more detail in the design, but the basic premise is sound. I'm not familiar with the Willow Tree Series (will check out online after this post), but I'd give you a thumb's up (or a wing's up if that's more appropriate for the discussion) for what that's worth. To be honest, I wouldn't "collect" them for myself, but might buy some to give away. Good luck if you decide to move forward, which I would encourage you to do. Edited to add: I just checked out the Willow Tree Series, and they are a little too plain/generic/faceless for my taste. From what you provided as sketches above though, I already like your design better than what I saw online. There is something about the lines and flow of your sketches that I think would appeal to people, so again, for what my opinion is worth, I'd say yes, go for it.
