  1. Quick work of advice, avoid Hazzmatt caches when you are just starting out. He has a bit of a twisted sense of humor and many of his caches are pretty challenging. Here are a couple easy ones to try: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=GC11MCF (the hint really gives this one away) http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=GCHZN4 (might be a little more difficult, but the name is the hint) You just missed the last Cache Addicts event, but they will probably be posting another one soon. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...2c-6127587e7953
  2. You can gather some info off the cache awards I did for the Socal region a few years back. http://www.cacheaddicts.org/modules.php?na...topic&t=323 I also have online voting software if you wanted to do web voting rather then ballots.
  3. OS- Win XP Browser- FF 3.6 When viewing the My Friends page: http://www.geocaching.com/my/myfriends.aspx The Javascript link for Pending Friend Requests does not work. Similar links on My Profile page work fine, but not the friend request link. The links work fine in IE6, so this appears to be a browser cross-compatibility issue.
  4. Hit up Dr Webe then for a true girls gone wild geocaching experience.
  5. The atheist in me felt there was nothing wrong with hiding a cache called "Method to my madness" near a Methodist church. So yeah, I see nothing wrong with that name.
  6. Sounds good. Maybe I'll see some of the people at the Spring Fling event.
  7. I just received this week's Geocaching Weekly Newsletter and noticed a problem with the Recent Geocaches list. This list used to be ordered starting with the closest to my home coordinates. The newsletter I received today has all the new caches within 100 miles, but they are no longer ordered by distance from my home coordinates. The distances jump all over the place from 4mi to 50mi and back to 8mi.
  8. I have never posted a hint as "none needed" or anything like that. What I have done on a few caches is made the hint harder to decipher or used it as word games: Cache name - Ab Uvagf Arrqrq Cache hint - See Title (encrypted) Then I have this hint on another cache: (Decrypted)- a long hint is usually not very helpful since most gpsr units FENCE cut off POLE after 30chars
  9. The Ventura Kids ask me to add their stickers to all the caches I find.
  10. Your best and least complicated option is to just publish a new cache under your account at the same location. Approvers are loathe to adopt caches without the owners permission, nor are they very willing to unarchive a cache to adopt it and then revive it.
  11. Just go take the caches and keep taking them until the owner gives up and archives them. Wait a couple weeks then re-submit your multi. You were there first so ya gotta do what is necessary to protect your 0.1mi.
  12. Some Covina area cachers that come to mind: UncleJon TheDeviousMaxPower TerraGirl Not Tom k6ccc CoolDeal CoolPops jcworshipper You could hit some of them up and see if they wouldn't mind a few more eyes to help search.
  13. Check to see that you have JavaScript enabled on your browser as well as Support Style Sheets. The settings for those are in the browser menu: Options -> Browser Configuration
  14. I'd love to help, but those are weekdays and I'm stuck behind a desk 9-5 Mon-Fri. Have fun in the area. Email me if you need a lifeline since I've probably found many of the caches on your list. Hit up GeoBigDogs in the Santa Barbara area.
  15. Thats when you need to take it up with your credit card company. There are time limits to when you can report and deal with issues like this with them, so it would be better to call them sooner rather then later, when it becomes too late.
  16. Firefox 3.5.3 here and I see the code in the page source, but I do not see the text on the page. Maybe your browser isn't displaying the "hideMe" class right? Did you try reloading the entire page?
  17. That would be incorrect. No caches allowed in National Parks and another lands owned and operated by the National Park Service (NPS). National Forests have no catch-all restrictions, however individual forests can enact their own rules as they see fit. Easy way to find out would be to call or email a local forest ranger. We cache heavily in the Los Padres, Angeles and San Bernardino NFs and are not aware of any such restrictions on geocaching.
  18. I'd ask them to refund the charges due to the delay in shipping. They can re-bill the charges when the items eventually ship.
  19. I'd also like to see this feature implemented. Sounds like a great idea.
  20. You might find it shocking, but I actually know of other geocachers that have done just that. Their number of hides has almost fallen off completely because of the rude logs and people taking all the swag out of the caches. Why contribute time, money and energy when the end result is a cache robbed of all its glory? Of course I know others that simply love to have people find their cache, regardless of the content of the log, if they broke the cache, whatever. I'm fall somewhere in the middle and kinda move a bit more to each extreme from time to time. To each his own.
  21. Actually reading and comprehending my post is required for your comment to apply...which it doesn't. Go back and re-read this part of my post: I was specifically referring to this You can't tell someone how to log. As long as they sign the log in the cache, it is an official find. When they log online, technically, it's a courtesy to write anything at all. Now that you specify which part of my post you were referring to, then the comment makes sense. I am well aware of GC.com doing away with ALRs. What I was try to imply with my comment is that why should I have to stoop to the level of adding a comment like the person said just so I don't get a copy/paste log. Their logic is flawed in my opinion. If I spent $20 and a couple hours of my time placing and listing a cache, is it too much to ask for something more then "TFTC" or in the case of a c/p log, the same meaningless drivel for every log? I guess this whole thread is essentially a re-hash of a previous thread called 'The lost art of logging' or something like that.
  22. Actually reading and comprehending my post is required for your comment to apply...which it doesn't. Go back and re-read this part of my post: I didn't tell them how they have to log my cache nor would my actions be considered an ALR. I also never said I would delete any log regardless of how much creativity it may lack. I'm just trying to strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger educate those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers caches.
  23. I started a series of caches with about 30 hides total. They are near another series of caches with about 50 hides. So those that find mine, usually find about 80-100 caches in a day. Over 80% of the of the 90 people that found my caches posted a copy/paste log. The common excuse: Sorry for the cut and paste logs but there are just so many!! This one was especially annoying: I'm sorry for the cut and paste unless the cache page says I have to log separately. Now I specifically need to tell people NOT to copy/paste logs? I've found over 100 caches in a day multiple times. I have over 11,000 finds. I have NEVER copy/pasted a log. I remembered most every find I had in a single day and wrote a unique log. The series of caches I placed are all unique hides with different style containers, unique cache names and unique cache pages. It took me a good amount of time to hide and create every cache. Not to mention the cost of the cache containers and swag (yes, each cache of reasonable size had decent swag in it). I get offended when somebody disrespects the effort I put into my caches. The big problem is that laziness breeds laziness. If other geocachers see copy/paste logs, then they assume its OK for them to do the same. I will often thank people for writing unique logs on my caches and even scorn those that post annoying copy/paste logs. If somebody doesn't tell them what they are doing is disrespectful and lazy, they might never get a clue.
  24. This obviously was not fixed. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=GC1RGR7 I verified on an event I own that I can edit the event page and select the Members Only check box.
