A puzzle cache marked as a traditional cache or a multi. I hate showing up and finding a puzzle.

That's the one, KF6JML! Thank you - I still laugh when I read that thread!! I've enjoyed looking back over some of the others - good submissions. I'd have to agree on the Goofus & Gallant thread - 'nother funny one!

I tried to do a markwell, but couldn't find it (Mopar? - little help here? ) - my favorite thread was the one in which a cache was impounded in a jail cell, with photos taken of it in custody. That was the thread that got me *lurking* every day.

For me, the best sig item I have seen are the chainmail keychains made by Victory Mike in Michigan. I never had the chance to find one in a cache (they seem to be the grabbed right away!), but I did have the opportunity to meet him at a couple of events, where he was kind enough to share. keychain photos

I also own a Garmin 12 - it's all I've used since I started. Never had any trouble, in fact it zeros out right on, while my friend that I cache with is about 10' away with his Magellan (no need to debate the merits of each, just stating a fact!). But, hey - if you need an excuse to upgrade, don't let me stop you!!

Doin' the low carb thing, too. Pork Rinds and water is my snack of choice. We usually reserve a travel bottle of Tequila for the weekend finds - no carbs in that, either!! (.....or so I've been told.....)

I got the GPS for my husband for Christmas four years ago. It was a handy item to have for tracking, if you know what I mean. After the divorce, I took it because it seemed as though it would come in handy for some good purpose someday, and then I found geocaching!! This sport is what you make of it, and I have chosen to make it an opportunity to enjoy the out doors with my son - the "complaining" on the boards can't take that away from me!!

Umm....hello? Ok - I admit it, I'm a lurker. I even lurked through the other posting asking who the lurkers were. I was slightly envious of those that answered, but was too *shy* to post myself. I have gathered up my courage and decided to introduce myself. I also want to lose my tadpole status. I'm happy with no warnings, however. I do enjoy reading all of your postings, and thanks for the entertainment at work! RK - love the bunny! We have been geocaching since July, and enjoy the opportunity for getting out for a walk. Team Encore is a mother and son team from Michigan. Thanks for the opportunity to introduce ourselves. I'm sure there are many other lurkers out there that read for entertainment, but don't post because they feel as though they have nothing to contribute, as I do.

BUMP!! Ok - I've voted on all the computers on the labs, traveled near and far to friends houses to vote - I've done all I can for love. VOTE NOW!!
-
I sent out emails to friends that aren't into geocaching - hope it helps!!
-
Bump!! This is a very sweet story - I just voted, and Geocaching is in the lead, but by a slim margin.

We went to a cemetary hide a few weeks ago - I don't think there is a problem with them, as stated prior, if they are thoughtfully done. The one we went looking for had the final location near a freshly dug grave for a sixteen year old. The grave had several momentoes, etc. We didn't feel right continuing in our search. I'm sure this particular grave was not there when the geocache was placed, but it kinda "took the wind out of our sails" so to speak. So although I see nothing wrong with them, we left from that search feeling so bummed, I doubt I'll go to any more hides in a cemetary.

After thinking about what went wrong all day, I don't think it was so much being without the rest of Team Encore that bothered me, but rather who I was with. Some people just don't get it, and because I had been out of town for the weekend, I *obviously* mapped the entire trip. As if I were going alone. Surprising to me, not everybody enjoys geocaching. In the rain. Out of town. Getting turned around on dirt roads. Maybe I built it up too much, and it didn't measure up to her expectations. Whatever the case, thanks for everybody's opinions - I agree that it is the journey, and not the destination that I enjoy. I think next conference, the blazes with the cost of not sharing a ride - some things are priceless. Being able to go caching when and where I want is incomparable to saving a few bucks!

While at a convention out of town this weekend, I went caching without my normal cache buddies (son and friend). I wasn't technically ALONE, as I had a person that accompanied me to the caches. However, I had such a different experience then when caching with my normal cohorts that I have made the decision to no longer cache without at least one of them with me. Have others had similar experiences?
