  1. If your surname was Calendar, Julian would be a great choice of name for your son.
  2. This could be a datum issue. Ensure the map datum is set to 'WGS 84'
  3. You can also join the Essex Geocachers on Facebook. There is usually a meet every two months. The next one is the 11th May in Maldon. Everybody is really friendly so you will have a great time.
  4. The gpx files are located either on the garmin device or on the SD card in the device. If you look in 'My Computer' you should see the two drives. Have a look on both drives in the following location: \Garmin\GPX In these directories, there may be PQ's you've run, individual caches (identified by their GC code number). You may delete the caches and PQ's. Until you are happy with this, either copy your entire unit or copy the files you are deleting onto your computer just in case you delete something you shouldn't
  5. Yes it is possible. Delete the GPX file which contains the data and then reload a new GPX which doesn't contain the caches you have found.
  6. AFAIK, it has been removed from the later firmware versions. Update and you should be good. P.S. The current Beta version has caused some issues, so stay clear of that
  7. There are a couple of things that spring to mind. 1) I seem to remember somwone saying that certain characters in the logs will screw up the upload. I think it may have been quote marks, but I may be wrong. 2) The file may have become corrupt. Can you open the file in notepad? If so are your latest logs there? Did you use a special character in the first one that didn't work? You can try deleting the file from your GPS and trying to log again.
  8. I found if you enabled the heart rate monitor in the Oregon, it stopped the chirp from working.
  9. I know what you mean, I'm not about to trade in my Oregon 550 just yet
  10. I just spotted this on Flea-bay.
  11. Peblicus, I guess the two newbie errors were to state that you had read all the guidelines (as that leaves you wide open to criticism if you'd not met them to the letter) and that you asked the same question in two new threads (whilst I don't know how your forums run, it is frowned upon here). Having said that, as a newbie how were you supposed to know? (although if you'd asked a question that is in a pinned thread you would have started to touch my buttons ) You live and learn, and I'm pleased that you've not been put off posting here. The majority of my caches are urban because I too wanted to place them close to home so I can see where you're coming from. I've found that my first cache isn't my best, and that it has been a learning curve.
  12. Mr. Muggle obviously went to the wrong cache. At the end of last year I thought I would take my two nephews caching. I took along a bag of swag and put two items into the cache. I then said that each of them would pick one item to keep from the cache. The cache had some cool toys, yet the youngest one opted for the 1p piece . Whilst he was over the moon with the cash, I would have been better off giving him 1p than buying the dinosaur I put in.
  13. if you still have questions, check out the oregon wiki. I think that it is the manual that Garmin should have writen.
  14. My whole head works in logic and that is why this news is particularly hard to take, there is no logic. Even though I didn't know him, I'm still saddened. I just can't explain it. My thoughts go out to all those whose lives were touched by Lori and my his memory live on.
  15. F12 is programmed in my version GSAK, what does it do for you?
  16. I just filter on the last updated GPX date and this flag all the archived caches (I include disabled caches in the GPX files). There is always more than one way to twirl a feline.
  17. Congrats for next weeks birthday and the start of a new type of geocaching!
  18. OK, on your GPS, what are you doing to view the data? On the main menu goto Geocaches Then click on Find Geocache and select one. Then click on the green Go button at the bottom, you should see the map display. Click on the X at the bottom left hand corner of the screen. On the main menu goto Geocaches again. Now you should see Show Description, Show Logs, Show Hint, Etc.
  19. Yeap, they're broken here too. The good news is that the beta maps still work ;-)
  20. It is possible to view the online cache contents in GSAK and so you could be seeing content that is not in GSAK at all. If you goto waypoint -> edit. In the box at the bottom you should be able to see the short description and the long description and hints are shown on other tabs. If they are there than the data is in GSAK. If the data is in GSAK, you need to make sure you send the waypoints as Geocaches and not waypoints on the send dialog box. If the data is not there, you need to check your PQ. In your PQ, did you ask for .loc or .gpx files? .loc files do not have the information you need while the GPX ones do. So you need to request GPX files which is at the bottom of the PQ submission page.
