  6. Well, I followed your site.. It was sooo easy to use. Me, the computer illiterate could do it!! Thank you.. so easy.. I love it. and I didn't have to download anything to this computer which is what I like.. Punch
  7. We have only been caching for a short time now. Mainly we don't take anything. We leave behind something called crazy bones. They were the rage a while back, but I still use them when teaching... tiny little characters that come in many colors. They are sort of like our calling card at a cache. This topic has gotten me to think about other items. mini first aid kits, metal clips, unusal keychains or magnets... hmmm, might have to hit the $1 section at Target. Punch
  8. Finally upgraded to prem. member on the 11th. Used paypal... got the confirmation letter today... tried putting the code into the right area. But it said membership not found, wait for confirmation from paypal. Well, I got that email. Now what? I know the site is soooo soooo slow today. Having a problem loading the main site. Forums seems to be fine. Thanks Punch
  9. Now that I'm up north for a couple a weeks away from my printer, I started looking seriously into going paperless. Only been GCing for 3 months.... upgraded from the blue legend to the vista hcx... thanks to everyones recommendations. Loving the new toy! Now it's time to move to paperless, especially when away from my home area. The question is, I don't have a lot of play money leftover to buy an expensive new toy.... Looked on line and found a few low end palms... z22 refurbished at @$60... then there is ebay... palm zire @ $60 Not sure what I'm looking for in a PDA.... don't want to buy the wrong one. I'll be using it only for downloading geocaches.... Any help would be appreciated. TIA Punch (who is waiting patiently for my echeck to clear to become a prem. member}
  10. Perfect timing this question was.. I'm tired of PAPER. I''m on vacation now, and hand writting every cache is a PIA. Don't have a pda... so I was looking on line for a cheapie... found one from overstock... Palm z22 heldheld pda Will this work? Or am I wasting money. The gps tapped me out of hidden money... THANKS Punch
  11. These were some of the funniest responses I've read! Forget the pepsi coming out of my nose.. there is coffee all over my desk! I'm dying to meet a fellow cacher.. I'm still quite green, and would love someone to help with the finds.. So far three that I hunted high and low for are now missing! Here I thought I just stunk at finding caches... t
  12. I really do hope your box is returned and the stamp is found.
  13. Now that we have found 19.. some have been micros/nanos.... What kinds of trickets are the best to leave behind? We have a huge stash of these funky little crazy bones that were the craze around her a while back.. my kids take them out once in while to still use.. Mainly we have been placing these.. but what else? Trying not to leave "junky" stuff... I read somewhere about mermaid tears.. seaglass wrapped with wire & beads.. Should they be more kid friendly, adult friendly??? T

    TFTC?

    Is it in the log that you should write an interested summary.. or when you get back and log it on GC? While out in the wild.. tend to quickly sign log.. and move on before either being seen or bitten alive by bugs!
  15. I'm a new geocacher.. but have been a letterboxer for awhile.. I looked up the "box" in question of the LB site.. I do know the person that might have hid the box in question. Same park name and everything.. I will be sending her an email asking her to check on her box. That her stamp might be missing. I enjoy both GC & LB... each have a unique skill... T
  16. I want to thank everyone for their help this past week. I'm retiring the blue legend. Did buy the video to understand it.. watched youtube videos to set it up.. and actually found a few with it.. but it did horrible under trees.. so... I bought the Vista HCX today on line.. stayed away for preferred photo liked suggested, and ended up buying it from PCNation. Now I have to sit and wait patiently for it come!!! Back to youtube to see how this one works! From the reading I've done online here.. do I have to buy the extra maps? Why? if I'm just doing simple gc at the moment... nothing more..
  17. After a week of play.. I did finally get the legend to work.. unfortunately it was horrible in the woods. Where most of the caches we are planning to go... So.. I did some research and out of the four models.. with undercavas ratings.. Venture HC, SUmmit HC, VIsta HCX and Legend HCX... I think I'm going to go with the Vista HCX.. Now my double question... I just really want this for geocaching.. I have a nuvi for the car.. hubby can keep the legend for the boat and fishing... Did I make the right choice? And.. Found online.. preferredphoto.com to buy it.. for $212. Is that a safe place? Has free shipping.. or Walmart, but I have to add tax.. and it's about 220... Thank you all for your help with the legend questions.. but I'd like something that will work under heavy trees!
  18. I took everyone's suggestions... I loaded a local park cache.. a park that I'm familar with. Off I went. Grabbed my middle daughter, so I wouldn't look fishy. I was able to find the cache with little problem. Now.. The unit in Nav. mode only showed what way I was walking and how close in feet I was. When I changed it to "map" mode.. the little triangle, when I found the cache was right on top of the symbol I picked for cache. What my friend's yellow gps has.. was in Nav. mode.. there was a "flag" symbol and she knew what side the cache was to be one.. You could see where the cache might be when you walked near it by the symbol.. Can I set my blue legend up to do that too? there was no symbol in "Nav." mode..
  19. Thank you! That's a great idea.. back into the woods I go... although maybe the quick and easy finds would be good.
  20. This was the first weekend we went geocaching. Went with a friend that has the old yellow etrex. Had no problems using her gps.. found 9 out of 11 caches! Not too bad for beginners... But, I had bought the ETrex Legend, blue one.. I couldn't figure out how to get the darn thing to work. I really want to be able to use it to go out on our own. Read the manual from cover to cover.. no idea how to set the darn thing up... Should I go get another GPS? one that will let us geocache? HELP>....
