  1. Walts Hunting - I had that problem for a few days. After a bit or research I found the fix below, where you delete all of the GPX files in current. From what I found, the Montana checks if a new GPX file has been loaded and then indexes it and moves it to the current folder. If you delete both and then restart it can fix the issue. This worked for me and I haven't had the issue since. I use Lignumaqua Garmin Export macro - http://gsak.net/board/index.php?showtopic=7745&st=40entry189420 - which does support the Montana. That seems to be a little more stable than the default export on GSAK.
  2. If you use GSAK there are some macros that confirm if you've completed some of the challenges. Have a look at the website project-gc.com. You can link to your profile - the Badgegen tab on the site will also give some ideas of which challenges you have completed. Cheers, WalkDMC! aka Dean
  3. This is the same issue as the GPX corruption issues. Connect the GPS to your computer and open the internal storage drive. Open Garmin -> GPX -> Delete any Geocache GPX files Open the Current Folder Delete any Geocache GPX files Add your Geocaching GPX files (using GSAK etc) Eject the Montana This *should* fix the issue! Good Luck! WalkDMC! aka Dean
  4. If you've got a Garmin Montana (I've got a 650t) take care with the latest software update. It all looks good until you try and view a Geocache description and then the unit hangs. I'm just testing what I hope to be a work around that fixes the issue, I'll post back with details if it works! WalkDMC! aka Dean
  5. There is a blog on the garmin site that talks a little about their use of android - if you're interested. I know it's for their aviation kit, but it gives an idea of the approach. http://garmin.blogs.com/my_weblog/2013/05/garmin-aviation-continues-its-commitment-to-android-with-garmin-pilot-24.html#.UZYo9Ka9LCQ
  6. There are some signs that it might be released around the 6th June. It will be interesting to see what materialises over the next few weeks.
  7. Me hitting post seem to bring the site back on line... Ignore me!
  8. Has anyone else noticed that the Geocaching Site is missing this morning? Doesn't seem to be any other mentions on the forums, so worried it's just me! Cheers, Dean
  9. Phew... Glad I found this topic... I created a new route query last night that went a little strange on me when I uploaded it. Thought I had broken my account when I couldn't get back in... Looks like my account might be fine... I've just broken the whole site!
  10. I'll let you know in the next couple of days... My Garmin Vista, has been getting more and more unreliable (the screen keeps going blank and it keeps re-starting) so my new CSx arrives tomorrow... I'll try give you a review if nobody else comes back... Regards, Deano1406
  11. Quite a few of the bugs we own / watch do the cache "hop", where somebody logs the into and out of each cache they visit (mainly happens in the USA) - to be honest I thought it was just part of the game. I must admit, it's not the way that Abi & I play it, but that's what is nice about Geocaching - you play the game to your own level! Dean(&Abi)
  12. Ahhh! Home at last! 34 days of working! Well, If I've done my job right, none of you will ever get to hear about it! Right, where's the GPS - I've got to get away from Keyboards and Screens!
  13. ...and us! Maybe we should try and negotiate special rates for geocachers! We’re missing using it! I’m (Dean) working hard again at the moment – something like 7 days a week – 10 hours + a day, so not going to get out Caching for another couple of weeks! 14. Talking about the forces caching have a look where our pooh bear TB has ended up! Poor Pooh! D&A Eagles may fly high, but weasels don’t get sucked into jet engines…
  15. If you give vague instructions look where they end up! http://www.geocaching.com/track/track_detail.asp?ID=22883 Eagles may fly high, but weasels don’t get sucked into jet engines…
  16. I feel that I should say something, but instead there will be an awkward silence. :-<
  17. Could the real land ranger please stand-up? It's all well and good that your commenting on this, but you have no caches logged against your name, so it would suggest that somebody is hiding behind a new name. It's not helpful at this time, and frankly very childish. I think there were many of us who were concerned about the FC stance. Clear communication was needed from all sides, and name calling, assigning blame et al, is not going to aid the cause at all! It was evident from Team Tates original note that permission needed to be sought from the land owner before placing a cache on the NF / FC land, and it was due to this breach that the whole incident occurred. From T&J's note, the reason for them resigning the chair, was because June was unwell - and I'm sure everybody involved with Geocaching in the UK is thinking of her. I'm sure that we are all aware of the stress that comes with an unwell loved one. Eagles may fly high, but weasels don’t get sucked into jet engines…
  18. Oh well Eckington and Lactodorum… At least the guys in the UK knew what you were talking about! Such friendly people around Austin… Must be well worth a visit? Eagles may fly high, but weasels don’t get sucked into jet engines…
  19. Pooh Bridge is just up the road from us - and as we have already adopted other caches it would be fairly easy for us to take this one on also. If nobody else objects - we would be more than happy to take that one on! We will do a check on it today / tomorrow just to confirm that it has actually gone, and let you know. Send us an email - geocaching@yealands.fsnet.co.uk, to confirm you are happy with the arrangement and we will sort it. Cheers, Dean&Abi Eagles may fly high, but weasels don’t get sucked into jet engines…
  20. Well said NattyBooshka! Being a newbie to this, its sometimes inappropriate to comment, but from reading through the comments on this thread, it felt a little like we had finally arrived to find that the "shop" was closing down! I think all of us appreciate the hard work that others do behind the scenes to aid the Geocaching cause. Many Thanks, Dean(&Abi) Eagles may fly high, but weasels don’t get sucked into jet engines…
  21. I understand what you mean by letterboxing, but what about the broader scope of all FC land not just the New Forest? If there is a blanket ban this would be a disaster, the cascade to other organisations such as NT et al to use the FC decision as a president for their refusal to host any caches on their land. There are two routes that I have been walking in the past few months, to scout for possible cache sites that are on FC land in Sussex. How can such a misunderstanding arise? The spirit of the sport is to enjoy the environment around us, encourage others to explore, and to some degree publicise areas that we personally find interesting, as well in some small part aid to improve the area around the cache with the “cache in, trash out” message. It would be a real shame for all parties involved for this not to be resolved, and I agree that the word “persecution” was not the right word, apologies for using it. 22. It’s a real shame that the local FC isn’t taking more of an interest. Maybe, as they are a government quango it is an issue that could be raised with a local MP to be raised with the board? With the emphasis on “Cache in, trash out”, which I know we all follow, we all know how the area of the cache can be improved. Caches also help with the local tourist industry, with Cachers often staying in areas where there are top grade caches, this includes visitors from both the UK and world wide, a fact that cannot be ignored with this countries tourist industry still recovering from the foot and mouth outbreak last year. To quote from the Forestry Commission’s own web site “More than 70 per cent of all adults have visited British forests in the last few years. They make around 350 million day trips from their homes to forests each year, in addition to visits by regular dog-walkers and by holiday-makers. Forests provide opportunities for walking, cycling, horse riding, orienteering, camping, caravanning, fishing, birdwatching and a whole host of other activities enjoyed by people of all ages. The Forestry Commission welcomes access to the forests it manages and full details can be found by following the links in the left menu to 'recreation' and 'wild woods'.” To persecute a whole community because of the mistakes of a few cannot be condoned! And to be honest it is also very short sighted by the local FC team. As Tim & June are taking up the banner on this one, I would suggest that we wait, but if they do hit a brick wall I would also suggest that we petition the board of the FC (details of which can be foundhere). But to do this we would need to be very specific about what we are trying to achieve, possibly adding additional guidelines specifically for Forestry Commission Land, working with the Forestry Commission to draw these up? –is something that could also be co-ordinated by T&J / GAGB? …I’ll put my soapbox away now… Dean(&Abi) Eagles may fly high, but weasels don’t get sucked into jet engines…
  23. Hi, we have already read the FAQ. All this is true if you are trying to adopt a cache that has been abandoned. We were thinking more along the lines of if you are the cache owner and were looking to put your cache up for adoption. If the details were put onto the cache page it’s self you might not read it if you had already been to the cache, but were in you local area. It would be a central database of cache to be adopted. It was just an idea that we thought might be of interest? Cheers, Dean&Abi Eagles may fly high, but weasels don’t get sucked into jet engines…

    Adopt a cache

From a thread that we have been running in the UK area (Under wheels over water)we have come up with a possible new feature and wanted to see what others think How about a page where you can put you cache up for adoption, when you move or other commitments get too much etc. Then where others can search for local caches that have been put up for adoption? This way rather than having to archive, there is a good chance that the cache can be kept going, it might well also help with the quality of some caches, as rather than being abandoned and the contents quality degrading – they would be looked after on a more proactive basis?
