  1. We love camping and caching too. There are a ton both sides of Pymatuning lake. We did some on the Ohio side and then crossed over to PA. Our profile picture is of my husband and I as legos camping! He has the photographer and navigator and I am the GPS holder and hunter.
  2. Wow! That's awesome. It's even better that someone found it and is willing to ship it back!
  3. I think people don't log DNF's because it will make them look bad. I always log them so the owner can know if there is an issue with the cache. Plus, sometimes there is a funny story or situation that goes in hand with the DNF. In our caching area there is this cache: GC1AZYM. It's a very good cache idea. If you want your smiley then you need to have at least 100 DNFs and you must prove it with a screen shot. I can't wait to find it I have 51 more to go!
  4. Watch out when caching with your geo pups. My Grandma's dog was playing in poison ivy and then gave it to my cousin when we were little. Be sure to give your pup a bath after a hike in that stuff. The oils will stay on their fur.
  5. I always log and drop a sig item. A lot of people collect sig items and snap them up right away. Make sure you put your pogs in a tiny plastic bag. I've gone to numerous caches that were damp and found paper and cardboard sig items that were moldy or mush at the bottom. Sounds like a cool item. Cache on!
  6. I had someone ask what if someone sets up a cache and waits by it to rob you? I just won't be FTF! LOL it doesn't matter that much to me. Someone else brought up a good point the set up person could be waiting a long time for a cacher to come upon the cache.
  7. I discovered my first vehicle travel bug the other day. I laughed at the option to grab the tb!
  8. On your screen it should show the date the cache was placed and the last time it was found. If you found one of the caches listed then then date you found it will be in green and the date someone else found it will be in black. It will also have a red check mark to the left side. On google maps instead of a cache icon there will be a yellow smiley. Another way to check is go into the cache description page and look at the logs. If you only see a blue dot and published log then that means no one else has found it. I hope this helps.
  9. If you have figured out that the person is a cacher it is okay to talk. In the seven months of caching I have only come across two other cachers. One was at the site signing the log and going through the swag, the other was wandering around in a field as I was driving up. I was thinking at the time "what are the doing?" Not thinking that the person was geocaching like me. LOL The first cacher I introduced myself as a geocacher and held up my GPSr as I walked up. The second saw my husband and I get out of our car with the GPSr and asked if we were cachers. Both times we talked cache.
  10. I started a scrapbook with pictures of each trip and the GC #. I think I am on find number 5 out of 87. I think this project will be taking awhile. Cool idea though.
  11. I have been caching since January. A few times early on I would use the nearest waypoint and go to option for parks that had several caches in them. I would search and search ground zero and come up with nothing. When I would go to log the DNFs I discovered that the coords I was searching were starting points and parking cords. Doh! I never thought to check the coords since I was familar with the trails and parking areas.
  12. Congratulations! I am glad that someone who needs a car got one!
  13. Trackable items. Signature Items ie Wooden nickels, pathtags, hand crafted items, and cacher cards. A cache that takes you to a neat location.
  14. That was a great video. She was so surprised. Congratulations!
  15. The Etrex H has found us 80 caches so far. It is a good starter unit. Have fun! Cache on!
  16. We don't care about the numbers. We just like to go out and hunt caches. The best part is the adventure caching takes you on. Even though we are new I enjoy logging and looking back on my old logs to read about our fun times! Cache on!
  17. I just got the etrex h for my Dad on amazon for $91.00. The prices change often so sometimes you can score a good deal. I almost got the legend for $96.00 but missed out by waiting too long. You can also buy the GPS used as well.
  18. I am a newbie too. Trust me it gets better. Don't sweat it... The first time we went we couldn't find anything. Now we have days where we will be on a roll and find 14 and DNF two. Other days DNF five and find two. The thing I learned is have fun in the adventure itself. The caches are meant to bring you to a cool location. Sometimes the locations are so cool I don't care if we had a DNF. Like others have said it is even more fun when you come back muddy, wet, with geostripes (scratches from brush) and have sticks in your hair and underwear.
  19. I found 73 so far with mine. Make sure you get the "H". I have problems with it bouncing at times but you will find easy ways to work around it. Have fun! It's a great unit to get started on.
  20. We just started caching so I can't say what the outlook will be. We cache with a few others and take turns driving or give some gas money to the person driving. I figure it costs the same as going to a park to hike. Only more stops on the way. We email and pre-plan routes and go from there. We also bring snacks and water so we don't have to make stops.
  21. Usually we will pick out a spot to visit and then do a search for all the caches nearby. We just cache until we are tired. Some days it is 14 others it's 4. We always have a great time and quit when we get too tired so we don't get burnt out.
  22. I saw that there would be beach spots but no trees! Yikes. I used to live next to the lake and the winds that come off of there could be brutal. I would hate to come back to the site and see our tent trashed or wake up with the Lake in our tent. I didn't realize in the "forest" area that the RV's are right on you. Hmmm... we may need to rethink our plans and look for another campground.
  23. I make a new log for the find. There is one cache in my area that you cannot log unless you have at least 100 DNFs. It makes it an incentive to log your DNF's. I also like seeing other's DNFs so that way I have an idea of what to expect.
  24. We are thinking of going in a few weeks. We have done some caches at Presque Isle and we love Waldemere and camping. We thought that Sara's might be a good location to stay at so we could spend more time at the park and do some more caches. I figured I would ask locals since you never know about a spot. It might seem nice and have good advertising; but when you get there it is another story. So far everyone has good things to say. Thank you for the information!
