It irks me that a cache with 157 FPs, looks like this:

    2014f46b-1017-4774-91f4-a29078666769_l.j

It could always be the location, or the trip to the location that garners the FPs.  A pic doesn't tell the whole story.  And I agree, that's a VERY realistic looking mouse the CO used there.......

I guess one of my irks is that some in this hobby look primarily at the cache itself, and others at the journey, with few appreciating that both can make for a good caching experience.

  2. Yes, it would be nice not to have to go to the trouble of 'roughing in' all of the coordinates for the AL waypoints.  However, doing so and having them on my map makes it lot easier to plan a day of 'caching' since they are show intermixed with regular caches, but it certainly is a bit of  extra work that would be better automated somewhere by gc.com.

Here's a look at what we may tackle next week, along with the info I used to create the AL waypoints for one of the ALs.   Notice that the ones labeled "DAx" (Denver Adventure) is TEN waypoints (as noted elsewhere, gc.com is definitely making exceptions to the 5/lab rule) and is spread out just a bit.

  3. In our region, Walgreens has become the Borg, assimilating the retail pharmacy business.  For a while (back ca. 2012?), they were running ads that included words along the lines of "In a town called Perfect, there's a Walgreens on every corner".  Here, we have 'Mondo's on Every Corner #xx', and I believe we ended with something like 61 of them, each at a local Walgreens pharmacy.  The few that got missed were quickly picked up by other cachers (eg. 5H58R).

  4. We gave up fighting this problem years ago since gc.com didn't have any way to address it.  Our 'offline tool' resolves the issue for us.  We maintain a separate database of our solved puzzles, and merge those in with our PQ that does not include puzzles.  The results on our Mapsource or Basecamp map show only those that we have solved, and exactly where they are, ready for routing our next geocaching run.  Another good argument for the 'offline tool'.

  5. Ah, indeed!  Looks like your town has a LOT of puzzles forming some geoart.  I looked at them, but cannot decide what the 'puzzle' is yet.  Let us know, would you?

I have the opposite problem. There are no LPCs here since our lamposts don't have skirts and shopping centre carpark caches are exceedingly rare. In my region, over 40% of the caches are terrain 2.5 or higher, with the smalls and regulars outnumbering the micros by a good margin. I've started keeping a list of caches I'd like to give FPs to but don't have enough to give, and each time I've found another ten caches I take one off that list but usually at least one of those ten gets added to the other end.

Wish I could donate some to your cause.  A friend and I have created a bit of a challenge for ourselves in our attempt to clear sections of map.  That means taking the good with the bad, so the 10:1 ratio has turned out to be a bit generous for us here.  As noted above, my formula is really, really simple:

if (cache == good enough that I'd make a point of sending a fellow cacher there for the experience)

    then cachefavpoints++

    else ...

Hoarding? Are you suggesting FP's should be given because a cacher has plenty? I give FP's because it's .... well... a favorite cache not because I have 300+ to give.

Agreed.  Nowhere near 1 in 10 caches that I've run across would really qualify for one, so the surplus points continue to accumulate.  Put a 35 under a lamp skirt, and you aren't going to get a favorite.

Put a 35 under a lamp skirt placed around a tree in the middle of a forest, I'll give you the favorite AFTER I get done laughing!

These are saved for caches that I'd make a point of sending someone else to visit.

    Welcome! :)

I hope there are lots of caches where you are for you and your family to find.

Looks like he's in Westfalen.  Target rich territory!

  9. We have sometimes seen a particular ISP causing issues with mail from gc.com servers.  A while back, one particular German ISP was bouncing or slowing down a lot of gc.com mail, probably due to some reputation issue.  Are you currently in the US or Japan?  Who is your ISP?

But I guess the answer was no for Adventure Lab logos and Waymarking.com?

Easily enough resolved by just doing a clip of the logos from their original sources and uploading to the site while building the cache page.

So, this time I guess the fluffy Hampsters scared off the 'softo bakemono' ソフト・バケモノ aka fluffy monstahs. :bad:

Evidently that's what happened.  Those hamsters can be tough.  However, I wouldn't use Romanji for bakemono.  ソフト・化物 is how I used to spell it, using it especially to encompass things that seemed to change in the software for no particular reason since 化 implies some sort of change.  There's lots of cool words for stuff like this in Japanese, and the phenomenon of a piece of software mysteriously changing its behavior is pretty universal!  gc.com certainly has their share of such issues.

Are you sure that messages are actually missing, or did you get a small blitz of them just as things freed up?

Good to know about the order being freely configurable. Thanks.

About the number of locations: this page https://www.geocaching.com/play/request/adventurelab

mentions: "Geocaching HQ is offering qualified Premium members an opportunity to create an Adventure Lab experience with up to 5 Locations."

They're offering more than 5 to certain entities.  See for example, "Junior Naturalists Life of a Ranger - Leave No Trace" in the Fort Collins, CO area.  Seven stops.  So some creators are getting special dispensation, regardless of the "up to 5" in the docs.

If I do two stages of a 5 stage lab and come back some other day and use the QR code to re-enter the app, where am I taken? To the main description view or to the next uncompleted location? I have vague recollections of going to the main screen and hitting Continue taking me to the next uncompleted location. I can't seem to use test mode to try this and don't have any AL partially underway. Does anyone know? Thanks

Main screen, where you are offered the option to "Resume".

  14. Don't hurt me, anyone.

I keep a separate database in GSAK of all of the waypoints for local lab caches (if you click on the map you first see on your phone, one waypoint for an AL is red, and the others show up as light gray circles).  Those are quickly located on GE for actual coordinates and are added to my usual PQ results in GSAK.  When I see the whole database on a map, which is how I plan/route a cache day, I am able to decide which ALs are going to be in the area of our day's work, and they get added to the run.  I use a different icon for them to make them easy to see on the map.

  15. You'll need to blow this up to see clearly.  Cache info on left, hint on right, and all the other goodies as well.  I  just sort of randomly pulled up a list of older caches,  The ones in yellow are ones that my caching buddy hasn't found yet.
