  1. Washh it shhhomthing about your dreschhh or your schhhhetup whichhhhhhh gave you away ..schhomtimes its the little schings that do it
  2. I may have been less than constructive with my reply ....... I have enabled Waas on my Magellan on several occasions , in each instance , the reliability of the information has been highly suspect...... Bottom line ...is that if and when Waas is available and consistent, I will gladly use it .....until then ....who cares .... for Geocaching its unnecessary ..... leave it off ..... the hassle isn't worth the risk....
  3. I hate innuefndo ....... If the last post is referring to me then my mind in not in the least closed.... I think Waas will be wonderful .....when its proven .... until then .... switch it off !
  4. Waas is for woosies! If you need to get that close .... get a labrador and a white stick ! my last 6 finds were all wass disabled and gpsr said 3 feet - 10 feet ...... I'l happily sacrifice the ~ 6 feet discrepancy in exchange for the 150 -350 feet walkabout from dodgy wass corrected signals .
  5. Sadly, the greatest risk when out searching for tupperware isn't on exposed mountains , or frozen wasteland , its when you sit in the 4 wheeled box to get there.
  6. 7:15 would be a better option .... the twigger has his walking boots on
  7. 43.1 miles ...... mind you , one of the last "nearest caches" was 38 miles ...which was actually a 210 mile return drive or a 100 mile drive and 4 ferrys.
  8. Hi Harpman..... welcome to the asylum ps buy a wee compass ( the best caches are in the West) regards
  9. Now looking at this objectively ......if the objective is to please/appease everyone then its a "non- runner" Seems like a good case for a UK geocoin ..and a RoI geocoin .... then everyone will be happy ... then again ....
  10. Pendle " Witches Brew" or Timmy Taylors " Landlord" .....the things I miss most about Yorkshire .
  11. One last check....... You havent accidentally set it to "simulator mode" ? may be worth trying switching it on and off ....
  12. Another tool you can use ---- on any cache page ...below Additional hints and above on-line maps :- Find... ...other caches hidden or found by this user ...nearby caches of this type ...all nearby caches Choose ..all nearby caches ..and get a new list centred on the cache you are looking at ... But the best visualisation has already been given... GCUK. good luck.
  13. There once was a cacher from Govan Whose 1st cache . it wasn't forthcomin Despite the new name The outcomes the same Everyones left "hawing" and "humming".
  14. I couldnt find the world map link either ....but you'll see the TB's progress from the map on their web page ..... Let them loose ...following them is as much fun as finding a cache ..... regards FFB
  15. Perhaps a closer analogy than litter and/or frisbees would be permanently installed orienteering course markers? Orienteering fits this description nicely too; it's also considered by most to be educational; and a permanent course also involves leaving plastic objects on the land which may never be removed. So, under the new Scottish laws, would I have the right to set up a permanent orienteering course on any land where I also have the right of access? Whatever the answer, I suspect the same would be true of geocaching.
  16. Hi msdhamilton Think you may have analysed it for yourself .....50% of the forum participants are interested in light hearted banter ...........actually I would have thought the figure was nearer 95% ... if you include the "where can I buy" "congrats" "any caches near?"....and anecdotal posts. Try posting a serious topic close to your heart ....perhaps sobriety will prevail. Personally, I thought the serious forums were already identified ..GPS ; GPSr in education etc. And arguably , the Waas topic should/could have been posted there. Looking at the issue objectively, "events" are organised ( and encouraged) whereby people cease to become "handles" and start to become acquaintances ...doesn' it follow that familiarisation will ensue ? Guess the forum would be a pretty dry place without some humour. regards FFB
  17. Maybe because a nappy change was called for ....
  18. Actually Ullium, when you offered to get me a drink , this wasn't quite what I had in mind .
  19. I think one of my favourite quotes... "Rules are created for the guidance of wise men, and the blind obedience of fools" Cant see a great deal of mileage in laymen arguing about this .... its so new I would guess there isn't any case law yet.... I've always liked the Frisbee maxim ..... if you feel you need to ask permission to throw a Frisbee , the you need to ask permission to Geocache . Only my 2p worth . FFB
