  1. project-gc.com says you have 10 caches that you have logged more than once. Stats there say: rogric has 1617 finds on 1607 unique geocaches
  2. Nah, allow people to find caches and attend events multiple times if it's important to have logs for all the temp events. But don't do a + 1 for their find count.
  3. This sounds familiar, as I'm pretty sure I've read this same problem before. You could always try logging out and logging back in, that sometimes fixes problem, though I don't know if that fixes this one.
  4. Yes, works fine with geocaching.com! Pretty much all GPSs and geocaching sites use gpx files, which you can create with pocket queries (a premium membership feature.) The site you reference is Garmin's own site, which is for the most part pretty much dead. Almost every geocacher with a Oregon 650 uses geocaching.com.
  5. Education. The majority of the civilized geocaching world doesn't condone this practice. Thus, most are not really attracted to the idea of attending the "geocaching orgies". Perhaps if the Wilderness Center was interested in attracting people to the area to make it an event with some draw, they would reach out to experience cachers (which doesn't mean a high find count), and find out what geocachers want at an event. There are some people that want numbers as shown by the history of the events in that region. Maybe permanent hides, or innovated temporary hides so cool that people don't mind writing about instead of getting a +1 at every turn. Get a regional draw for a cool event, with cool caches and adventures, and maybe people from Erie, Buffalo, or even as far out as Rochester would want to attend even if they only got the one +1 or a few more for the few permanent events placed.
  6. The few remaining moving caches maybe. There is one in in your Country and another that allows multiple logging. It supposedly covers benchmarks, as only those in the US are covered on this site. - Though here in the US, finding a benchmark doesn't count as a find... The remaining moving caches already have some sort of flag set to allow coordinate changes to be made by the cache owner. Normally you can't update coordinates for your own cache more than a small amount, but owners of these grandfathered caches can. So that flag could also be used to prevent multiple logging.
  7. How does this logging practice impact others? For the most part it doesn't. But if you use projectgc to find worthwhile caches to find in an area based on the number of logs, the top 22 caches in Ohio are all of the multiple-logging variety (mostly events it seems?) This does impact others ability to search for worthwhile caches. It also impacts those people who put out legitimate caches and are not given the chance to have their cache show up in the top 5/10/20 caches. Ever.
  8. Don't blame management, blame the people putting out such goofiness and those logging it.
  9. Sadly, I've heard that this has been done at least once at an event (with hundreds of log sheets in a bucket, but it's infinitely scaleable!)
  10. I came across a little free library in a park near my house, thought it was a nice spot for a cute cache. So I put a logbook in the library, put a book "title" on it, and the book went missing after less than 24 hours. I put another book out and it's been there for the last month or so. If it goes missing again I'll hide a bison or something similar in the libraries "rafters".
  11. Here is one of mine I put out recently: http://coord.info/GC5CRP5
  12. FTF is an unofficial competition. It ceases to become a competition if nobody else shows up. By that rationale, I'm hoping that all the NFL teams the Buffalo Bills play throw their games so we can get a superbowl win. It would only be fair.
  13. Used to be that power trails weren't allowed, and there was much whining and complaining about that, so the rules were loosened. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
  14. If you can find a cache before it's published, good for you! Anybody complaining is just a sore sport that they were the first loser.
  15. No new webcam caches have been published on geocaching.com since about 2004 or so. But there are still a number out there you can log. Locationless were all archived and locked a number of years ago so you can't log one of these. You can list new webcams on Waymarking but it won't count on GC.com for anything.
  16. I can't imagine ever asking a cacher to replace a cache design of mine that was fragile. As cache owner, if I placed something that was not able to stand up to the environment or people looking for it and opening it, either I should do a better job or be prepared for lots of maintenance. Of course, if a cacher posted "Found your ammo can and decided to throw it off the cliff, sorry about that", well that's different.
  17. Hey it's a Giga event? Those NE Ohio people sure are good for a laugh.
  18. Anybody is free to organize a block party "style" event. Local events don't have to be about eating ice cream, drinking beer at a pub, or doing something stupid for 5 minutes and then leaving. Why not organize a local party, with a dunk tank or slime, put out fun events and activities, attempt to get the Signal suit for somebody to wear, and even put out a bunch of lab caches if your event gets big enough? You can duplicate the feel of a block party as a regular event - you just have to plan it yourself. But of course you don't get the icon.
  19. They should let it rust for a few years until it's unrecognizable, then dig it up and replace it with something else, encase it in plastic, and present it like it's something holy while being pompous.
  20. No, that isn't normal. My guess is that person wanted to get a CITO for the August souviner promotion. If it were my event, I'd likely send them an email explaining why I'm about to delete their attend.
  21. It's automatic now in Google Now. Yup, I was going to say the same thing. Came in handy when I was in Pittsburgh the other day (not geocaching), parked the car in a garage and didn't make a good mental note of where it was. But google knew.
  22. I always email, then log. If you do it the other way around and have a particularly nasty cache owner, they may delete your find when the log comes in if the email hasn't come in yet. Unlikely, but I don't want to have to deal with that situation. I do this for all virtuals and earthcaches.
  23. Are stats available for what percentage of people use each of the browsers. It would be interesting to see.
  24. Tried a search & visit again and it worked. Something isn't working right.
