  1. Hey everyone, I've posted on this topic a couple times, and not really gotten any response. So maybe there is no response to be had. But maybe there is. I've got a Palm m505, a Magellan 315, and a cable to connect the two. I'd like map software that is GPS-compatible, and can display waypoints. I'd also like reasonable zoom capability. Does such a beast exist? I'm pretty sure DeLorme's XMap can do it, but the reviews of it on Amazon.com are pretty dismal. I don't want to shell out $40.00 or so for a piece of crap. If I don't get any answers to this, I will have to do something drastic. I may just jump out my office window. Lucky for me, I'm on the first floor. Thanks, DadONine
  2. quote:If it's just hemp, why bother? You can't get high from hemp. -Vb Who knows if it was just hemp? There's also a problem with people planting surreptitious crops on public lands. In Illinois, the forest preserves are frequent locations for marijuana crops, we're talking about real live drug traffickers growing the stuff. In Kentucky, I have heard it is among the top cash crops, often grown in between rows in cornfields. The stuff is rather hardy. I would NOT assume it's hemp. Probably some local pothead spilled his stash that had a bunch of seeds in it, or possibly saw a good place to plant a crop away from the prying eyes of law enforcement. DadONine

That might save some future geocacher a lot of hassle, and put geocaching in good standing with law enforcement. I didn't realize he was a police officer until I saw the K9 SUV at the trailhead. He was out of uniform and with his daughter on her li'l bike (along with the big ol' dawg). Also, I feel kind of silly walking through the brush when there's a perfectly good paved trail mere feet away. DadONine
  4. Geocaching is a GPS-based game where one seeks a hidden "cache" whose coordinates are published on the Geocaching website. You can go there for a more complete explanation. Hope this helps! DadONine
  5. Woodbutcher68: That cache was closer to your home than mine! But yes, there's tons of it down our way. One time I even saw a flatbed with what at first glance appeared to be a fertilizer tank on the back. As I got closer, it was labeled "Jasper County Marijuana Eradication" or something like that. Buncha guys out looking for weed to spray. Wonder how much they took for themselves. BTW, have any Hoosiers noticed that there are NO caches in Jasper county? That will be changing soon..... DadONine
  6. While I was (unsuccessfully) seeking this cache, I found myself literally neck-deep in marijuana plants! This cache is on a fairly heavily used biking/jogging path on an old railroad right-of-way, and while I was searching, an off-duty K9 officer walked by with his big ol' dog. Made me think of what he might have thought had he actually seen me. Now, nothing happened, and I wasn't foolish enough to try to grab any of this stuff (having grown up long ago), but has anyone found themselves in awkward, difficult-to-explain situations? C'mon, let's have some stories! DadONine
  7. I've got a similar question, although I don't use a clip-on. Rather, I've got a Magellan 315 and a Palm m505. I just installed GPX Spinner and Plucker, and they beat the daylights out of the MobiPocket reader. No comparison! I looked at Amazon.com, and the reviews for XMap are absolutely horrid! I don't want to pay 40 bucks for something that I'm not gonna be happy with. Are the shareware/freeware products any different? I'm looking for something that will: Recognize my GPSr Provide real-time tracking Have push-pin capability so I can see where caches are So my needs are modest. Any brainy ideas? How about not-so-brainy ideas? At this point I'm not so picky. Thanks, DadONine
  8. Update: I sent in a month-at-a-time PayPal for the Premium Membership, and it is SO worth it! Aside from the satisfaction of keeping the site going, and getting the Title Of My Choice under my Avatar, PQ's are so unbelievably handy. I loaded a coupla PQ's with a coupla hundred WP's on my Mag 315, and their eBooks on my Palm, had a great weekend caching with my daughter. Very cool! DadONine
  9. I haven't tried the product yet, but Brian fixed my registration problem via email very quickly! Kudos to Brian! DadONine
  10. Hey, I just ordered and downloaded CacheMate 2.0, but it's not liking my registration number. It looks like I didn't capitalize my Palm User Name when I placed my order. Any ideas? Thanks, DadONine
  11. Hey everyone, I picked up a copy of TopoUSA, and got it installed (with a few hitches) on my laptop. My serial/GPS cable should arrive tomorrow. What else do I need to export maps to my Palm PDA? What kind of stuff, other than just exporting maps with waypoints, will I be capable of doing? I'd like to make maximum use of what I have. TIA, DadONine

My wish list grows (already got the 2m/70cm.... and license: KB9ZHN). Climbing rope though? And 500 feet?! This begs the question: Has anyone ever actually needed climbing rope while GCing? Let's hear some stories! DadONine

  14. Okay. I've got a Magellan 315, with a cable to connect it to COM1 on my laptop. A cable is on the way to connect it to my Palm m505. I have the Rand McNally software for my Palm, and EasyGPS on the laptop. What other stuff do I need to complete my dream setup? Ultimate software? Additional hardware? Help me out here. The sky's the limit. Let's have some fun with this. DadONine
  15. Thanks Stunod, got it figured out! DadONine
  16. Okay, so I popped for the Premium Membership. How do I do a Pocket Query? I've got EasyGPS, the PC cable for my Mag. 315, and a PDA. I've looked the site over and can't seem to find instructions on how to run a PQ. A little help? Thanks, Eric DadONine
  17. Hey everyone, I've been pondering a Premium Membership, but what exactly do you get with it that you don't have with the free membership? I know you get access to Pocket Queries, but I haven't seen a real goo definition of what a Pocket Query is. TIA, DadONine
  18. I just checked my Magellan 315 and it looks like you can enter several LMK's into the Proximity Alarm system. Like maybe a dozen, I didn't count the blank spaces. You can choose 100', 500', .5 mile, 1 mile, and a couple others. There are other alarms you can set, but I haven't figured them out yet. RTFM, I guess. DadONine
  19. Hey all, I've been drivin' around with my new Magellan 315, and I've noticed that the MPH on my GPS is fairly well in line with my speedometer on the dashboard, within a couple MPH. But say I want to be REALLY accurate. Which reading do I believe more: the GPS or the speedometer? Which is more accurate? That is all, DadONine
  20. Hey everyone, I'm having trouble finding a source for the PC cable for the Magellan 315. I don't want the cigarette lighter adapter, just the PC cable. Anyone have an extra to sell me? Or point me to a source for it? Thanks, Eric Ruuska
