  1. Fellow cachers Sissy-n-CR have a caching supply store online where they will make a custom stamp for a paltry 3 bucks. This is an unmounted stamp, but you can get a block of wood to attach it to, and you're in bizniz. I haven't personally ordered one yet, but it's on my short list of stuff to do. DadONine
  2. Just recently I had a 35mm film canister that repeatedly got misplaced and chewed on by something, probably a coon. I replaced it with a waterproof match holder with a screw-on lid. No problems since then. DadONine
  3. I saw someone's (for get who) avatar that featured an iPod, and I was left with the impression that it was somehow used in GCing. Well, dadgum it, I'VE got an iPod, and I'm a sucker for new and better stuff. Is there some use for an iPod in GCing? Other than listening to tunes whilst outnabout. Enlighten me, PLEASE! TIA, DadONine
  4. Testing new avatar again.

    Pq

I import the PQ into GSAK. From there you can filter the caches so only the ones you're interested in will be selected. Then you can export to Cachemate, your GPSr, or your map software. It really is a slick piece of software. DadONine
  7. How often do you have dentist appointments? Pretty soon I'll be making a couple trips to pick up and drop off my bro-in-law at his house (doesn't drive... don't ask<_<), and there's LOTS of caches between here and there. So that's my extra cache trips. DadONine
  8. I second the second. Hmm.... would that be (second)squared? Or (second) plus one? Or does no one care? Yikes. I gotta get away from the computer and go caching. DadONine
  9. I just spent a few minutes playing with GSAK (recently downloaded, not yet registered, but definitely very soon!), and I was so truly impressed with the filtering screen. I'm going to be driving on I-65 south of Indianapolis in a few days, and may want to do a little caching on the way. I ran a pocket query centered on Columbus, IN, imported it into GSAK, then defined a polygon in the form of a long skinny rectangle around I-65. Went from 299 waypoints to 67, which I will now export to Topo USA on my laptop and my GPSr. Talk about eliminating a lot of clutter on the map! Plus with my Magellan 315 only holding 100 waypoints, I can make the most of my meager GPSr. If I took a couple of minutes extra, I could define the polygon so it's a lot closer to the highway. Kudos to the GSAK people! DadONine
  10. What's the difference between the Legend and the Legend C? There seems to be a pretty hefty price difference. I know, I know, I said money is no object! So sue me. Does the "C" stand for "color"? Or am I just dense? DadONine
  11. I hate that I'm limited to 100 waypoints. I hate that I don't have any access to street maps. I hate that it's not in color. I hate that it doesn't fit ergonomically in my hand. Pretty much in that order. I'm sure I'll think of something else. And for the sake of a fun discussion, yes "money is no object". So far, so good. DadONine
  12. Hey all, I'm sitting here loving geocaching, but not necessarily loving my Magellan 315. I'm contemplating a Christmas gift to myself in the form of a new GPSr. What ought it to be? For the moment, hypothetically consider money not to be an object. Heehee. Oh, while we're at it, what accessories should the ultimate GPSr come with? Let's have some fun. Merry Christmas, DadONine
  13. Greyhounder, There are 2 Indiana Dunes. One is Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, which is indeed administered by the NPS. The other, just east of there, is Indiana Dunes State Park, which has no affiliation with the NPS. Just clarifyin', DadONine
  14. Hey Mogle1! Thanks! Worked like a charm! DadONine
  15. That's what I've been doing (PQ to GPS, then GPS to TopoUSA). It's not that much trouble, really, but I'm always looking for a better mousetrap. Thanks, DadONine
  16. I'm working at it this morning, and I think I have figured out how to export to Plucker (waiting for Palm to sync). What about Topo USA? I wouldn't mind bringing the laptop along. Thanks, DadONine
  17. Hey everyone, I'm going to be taking a few boys who have never gone GCing this weekend, and I want to be able to use my newly-downloaded copy of GSAK. I've got Plucker, a Magellan 315, DeLorme TOPO USA 4.0 on my laptop, and a Palm PDA. How do I make the most of all these? TIA, Eric (DadONine)
  18. Thanks for the tip, I've got one on order now. DadONine
  19. Hey all, I've been away from Geocaching for a couple months, and since I got my new laptop I need a new data cable for my Magellan 315. I have purchased cables from www.thesupplynet.com previously, but they don't seem to have what I'm lookin' for. Any ideas? And by the way, did the Pocket Query Generator go away? Either I can't remember how to find it, or it's gone. Thanks, DadONine
  20. I'm replying to my own post to get it back to the top of the stack. Any answers? TIA, DadONine
  21. Hey Gang, I'm finally getting around to buying Pocket Topo to accompany my NG software. Is there an online source to buy the activation code? Or am I stuck waiting till Monday to call NG to get the code? I mean, this IS 2003, I should be able to get what I want, NOW!! DadONine
  22. I have to add my vote for Fugawi. Very easy to Sync your map to the PDA, and when you go off the edge of that map it looks for another one to use. If your PDA supports it, get additional memory because if you download more than a couple maps from your PC, it takes up lotsa space. Oh, and if you decide on Fugawi, buy it straight from them. I got a copy from Amazon that was an older version, and because they aren't authorized resellers, I had to pay for the upgrade. So I ended up paying about the same as if I bought it from them. Save yourself the headache, buy direct. DadONine
  23. Thanks, guys. I sent him an email thanking him for finding my caches and nicely asking him to edit the logs. I didn't notice from the GC.com logging email, but he found them on 8/30 and just logged them last night. I've done that before, and if my notes are scribbled (they usually are), it's hard to decipher what I wrote several days ago. No biggie, and thanks for the suggestions. DadONine
  24. Hey everyone, Hope all had a good weekend, I know I did. But I have a weird problem. I own 2 local caches, and this morning I got LOG emails telling me that a certain geocacher found both of them. However, he appears to have mixed up the logs. One is a micro in a small town park and he referred to taking a few squirts of the Deet that I left in there. I did leave some Deet, but it's in the OTHER cache. How do I get this squared away? Do I email him and have him edit his logs? Is there a way I can do it myself? Cornfused in Indiana, DadONine
