  1. Hey all you Non-GeoMuggles, I've got an idea for a cache in a place I typically visit a couple times a year. Would this be considered a vacation cache? It's about 100 miles from my domicile. Thoughts? Anyone? Anyone? DadONine
  2. Hey Growley, Keep us posted! I've got the Indiana version coming to me, and I'll be using it with my Palm m505. I can't wait! DadONine
  3. Call them back and point out that on their upgrade http://www.fugawi.com/docs/suppupgrades.htmlit says the following: ''Palm upgrade is free if Fugawi was purchased after September 1, 2001.'' I bought an old version from Radio Shack in Canada last December and was able to get the Palm function activated for free. It is a neat program and even works with only 2MB on my m100. I'm jealous of your 132MB http://members.shaw.ca/pdops/ I tried that. Two things worked against me though: It was a REALLY old version, and I bought it from someone who is NOT an authorized reseller. I begged. I pleaded. I sacrificed my dignity. But they still charged me the lousy $39.00. Frankly, in the whole scheme of things, it's no biggie. Do I wish I could have gotten it for free? Well, yeah. But I have lost not one iota of sleep over it. Oh, and it's 136 MB (started with 8MB). And don't you forget it. DadONine
  4. And I just thought it was a Japanese firm located in Canada. Duh. DadONine
  5. Am I the only one who clicked on Bret's link to Despair, Inc., or am I merely the only one who thought it was funny? I can think of tons of people to buy this stuff for for Christmas. DadONine
  6. quote:Originally posted by mckee:Greg, Bobby and Peter were kind of geocaching, but instead of a Happy Meal toy they left a cursed idol and got tied up by Vincent Price. I've never been tied up by Vincent Price while geocaching. Anybody? I'm betting you never left a cursed idol either. Try it sometime. Although today I'm betting you'd get tied up by maybe Christopher Walken. DadONine
  7. Hey NonGeoMuggles, I while back I was fishing for map software to use with my Palm, and someone suggested Fugawi. I picked up a copy, and it is way cool. Install it on your PC, and to download to your Palm (or Pocket PC), just select an area, then click on "Send to PDA". Next time you sync, it's sent to your PDA. I bought a 128MB memory card, and put all my maps there. Then I use my Magellan 315-to-Palm cable to see where I'm at. The cool thing is when you reach the edge of a map you've downloaded, it looks for another map that covers the area you have moved into. BTW, don't buy it from Amazon. I did, and it ended up being an old version that didn't have PDA support. I was able to fix it same day with the very helpful staff of Fugawi, but it cost me $39.00, so I ended up paying about the same as if I'd ordered it straight from them. Anyway, very cool software. DadONine Who is awaiting his free NG Topo software from localhikes.com
  8. Try www.thesupplynet.com. They've got cables to go between just about any combination of computer, GPS, PDA, or cell phone. I've bought several cables from them and they all work well. DadONine
  9. What about putting the photos up on the cache's web page? Do I need to get permission from the people to do that? DadONine
  10. I just got an email from LocalHikes.com (you know, the site that has volunteers review hiking trails in your area, and kindly provides the reviewer with a copy of National Geographic Topo software for your state) and I was approved as one of their reporters. The cool thing is the verbage of the email. He listed what was expected of their reporters (submitting a hike review every 60 days or so, respond to emails within 7 days), and then said to let him know if I'm "comfortable with these expectations". Not if I "agree to these terms", but rather "comfortable with these expectations". I thought that was way cool, and hope this is an indicator of things to come. Oh, and I can't WAIT to get the software. DadONine
  11. Hey all, I just returned to This Cache that I placed a few days ago and dropped off a disposable camera. Any thoughts on whether this is a good idea? It's unlikely that a muggle will come across it, as it's not in a park or anything, in fact you have to follow deer trails to get to it. I mean, what's the worst that could happen? (insert horror story here) DadONine
  12. I don't have my 315 in front of me, but it goes something like this: Menu Setup Clear Memory Lmk/Route Then select Yes to confirm that you want 'em all deleted. Took me a while to figure it out, too. DadONine
  13. I've been doing more and more map-less caching. A lot of times I know what general area I'm going to so I just load a PQ onto my GPSr and my Palm, then keep an eye on the tracking screen on the GPSr. If any nearby waypoints appear I'll check the info using either Cachemate or a Plucker file and decide whether to try 'em or not. Yesterday I went mapless because I knew the area where the cache was hidden and could find it without a map. However, if there was a particular cache I was wanting to nab and I didn't know the area.... Well, you get the picture. I don't think either way is right or wrong, it's a matter of personal preference. DadONine
  14. I hope I'm one of the Big Dogs. I was just sitting around the house complaining about the leg, which isn't exactly THAT bad, and thought I'd stir up a little trouble. And I'll probably do a little GCing tomorrow. I gotta go up to Chicago, and I already have my waypoints loaded, spun and plucked. I just hope some of them are wheelchair accessible. DadONine
  15. Today I pulled something in my leg placing this cache. Did it while jumping over a creek onto a steep bank. So what I want to know is, who the hell is gonna compensate me for my pain and suffering. Nobody ever told me geocaching was painful. Ouch. DadONine
  16. But what about if I know the name, but don't know what he's found or owns. Here's the deal. Someone sent me an email, with his GC.com user name. I'd like to see his profile, but can't see a way to find it with JUST hs user name. DadONine
  17. Is there a way to go to someone's profile page without finding a cache they own/found and clicking on their name? Seems obvious to me, but I can't find a way to do it. Thanks, DadONine
  18. I've seen stickers in different caches I've found. Not necessarily bumper stickers, but more like rear window stickers. Where did they get them? Or did they make them? Or what? DadONine

Have you been around long enough to recall the threatened legal action about brillig.com? Ummm..... no. At the risk of having TPTB kick my sorry hind end out of here, fill me in. DadONine
  20. There has been a lot of duscussion about someone either taking over or providing some sort of replacement for Dan Miller's site, with the consensus that GC.com won't allow other sites to use their data. But how do you explain Buxley's Geocaching Waypoint? Seems pretty real-time to me. I placed my first cache yesterday, and as soon as I saw it had been approved by TPTB, it showed up on Buxley. They've gotta be using GC.com's data, and if they can use it for location stats, surely someone would be able to use data for user stats. At least it would seem that way to me, a peon. DadONine
  21. quote:Originally posted by PDOP's:Have you looked at http://www.fugawi.com/? http://members.shaw.ca/pdops/ Boy, that REALLY looks cool! Have you (or anyone else that wants to chime in) tried it? Does it work? DadONine
