  1. Ah yes, airport insecurity! I got to meet the security supervisor too. I reload and had made up a rather attractive 40 caliber S&W Black Talon to carry in my pocket. It didn't have a primer in it, just a hole where the primer went. I convinced the supervisor that I didn't have the rest of my reloading equipment nor my powder with me and he passed me thru. This was a while ago and I would suspect I would be detained and arrested for trying that now. But those little old ladies with knitting needles, now they are scary.
  2. I'm surprised there are so many references to using common sense. Doesn't anyone here remember that common sense died? http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detai...498268?v=glance Sounds like a good book for a cache. We do still encourage reading don't we?
  3. Alan2, that is a great link that I'll save. Looks like some interesting reading for background. Thanks.
  4. User fees, license fees, parking fees, they are all TAXING to me.....
  5. Sparky it sounds like you have a beautiful place to escape to. I hope you can hold on to it. And further I hope you can do what you want with it. I've had some sleep and this issue is still very bothersome. Does anyone know WHY the government owns so much land? They are certainly not engaged in any 'commerce' that produces income so they shouldn't need it. And they are evidently not holding it for the use of citizens. According to the charts government owns over 40% of the state of Washington and over 60% of the state of Oregon. All I'm getting at is that restrictions on use could become a huge problem for folks who enjoy the outdoors. And unfortunately it will only impact those who are concerned with following the rules.
  6. I've read too much of this thread for one night. I have serious objections to the restrictions being placed on MY LAND. After all, I pay the taxes that bought it and maintain it. The problem is that the government already owns too much land (check how much here). It may not be obvious in the eastern states but take a look at most of the western states. I enjoy caching (haven't been doing much of it lately, but I enjoy it) and it concerns me that we have to be involved with any government agency to walk in the woods. As the saying goes, I'm just glad I don't get all the government I pay for.......
  7. Gosh, I've got everything I WANT! What I need is a job.
  8. I looked at typing a bit differently. It got me out of all kinds of nonsense in Texas during the heat. Ended up in the 8th Evac Hospital, Landstuhl, Germany (which has unfortunately been in the news lately). 18 months in Germany between 1964 and 1966 was GOOD duty. I enjoyed my 'green' tour of Europe and probably would have been a career man if that little incident in Vietnam hadn't cropped up at the wrong time. My duty, however easy, has given me a real appreciation for the men and women risking it all so that we can rest easier at night. God bless them!
  9. Tis nice to see the forums back up, I think. (Although my caching outings haven't suffered because they were gone). Nice work to all at GC.com. I especially appreciated the thoughtful notices of progress. Nice touch. Thanks to all.
  10. Slow? I've got an old C-64 that could speed this up. Just sent an email to TPTB before I found this thread. Put the sig lines back..... ___________________________________ I once was lost, but now am found; Was blind, but now I see.
  11. I've been reading this thread and feel I must apologize. I think Tiger might have gone after the Wisconsin cache we found a couple of weeks ago and we would be the pigs rootin in the leaves. The area was covered with about a foot and a half of fresh fallen leaves (which I'm reasonably sure were not there when the cache was placed) so we looked under them. We did not put them all back the way they were. Sorry. ___________________________________ I once was lost, but now am found; Was blind, but now I see.
  12. Never did like John Denver. Loved STP, used it in all my cars. What ever happened to Andy Granatelli? ___________________________________ I once was lost, but now am found; Was blind, but now I see.
  13. Just bought an eTrex Legend and picked up a Garmin case at Cabela's on the way home from vacation. Found the case in their discount cave for $8.29. So far works great and seems to acquire signal with no problem. Has lanyard hole, belt clip, and clip ring. Check it at Cabela's for one place. ___________________________________ I once was lost, but now am found; Was blind, but now I see.
  14. I'm sitting here in Wisconsin Dells with the same type problem on my 315. It started today and will not initialize, just bounces back to the Press Enter to Start screen. It's looking like a new GPSr is in order. The family just arrived in WI from WA for a weeks vacation and some geocaching. Not a good start, eh? ___________________________________ I once was lost, but now am found; Was blind, but now I see.
  15. People get too worked up in the General Forums. But I don't own it, maintain it, or take any responsibility for it so I guess HOW it's run isn't much of my business. Of course, I haven't ponied up the entrance fee yet either (out of work for 8 months). Maybe I would feel a bit different if I was paying....So I read, enjoy, make occasional comments and treat the rest of my life as, well, my life. ___________________________________ I once was lost, but now am found; Was blind, but now I see.
  16. I'm going to pick the oldest cache in the area and watch it. When the only thing left to 'trade up' to is a new SUV, I'll wait until it's there and go get it.... Course, what would I leave? ___________________________________ I once was lost, but now am found; Was blind, but now I see.
  17. Was that a 'Cache Density' problem or a 'Cacher Density' problem? I may fall into the latter. ___________________________________ I once was lost, but now am found; Was blind, but now I see.

  19. Just picked this up yesterday. Mans Best Friend Neat park, about 40 acres according to one person I met there. I don't have a dog any more but realized yesterday how much fun they can be. ___________________________________ I once was lost, but now am found; Was blind, but now I see.
  20. Job seeker. I should be able to cache any time of the day but I spend most of the day looking for work. Wife is a part of the team and is a professional landscape artist (bold faced advertisement here). We cache mostly in the daytime, but never on Sunday.... ___________________________________ I once was lost, but now am found; Was blind, but now I see.
  21. WOW! Congrats. Amazing. I'm impressed. ___________________________________ I once was lost, but now am found; Was blind, but now I see.
  22. To be fair about the number (and America is nothing if not FAIR, right?) the difficulty numbers should be factored in. Multiply the find by the difficulty rating and then again by the terrain rating. That makes mine......does not compute, does not compute, duzknotcomputer...And then there are those not founds that should be deducted somehow. OK, I just moved into the 'No Stats' camp. ___________________________________ I once was lost, but now am found; Was blind, but now I see.
  23. quote:Originally posted by The Leprechauns:OK, using GeoFool's method, my caches per days cached comes out to 3.14, which only goes to show that geocaching is as easy as pi.
