  1. A selection committee has been formed to accept proposals to host GW4, We have heard from some folks who have expressed a general interest in hosting GW4 next year but the time has come to discuss specifically who is interested and how much they are interested. The primary purpose and discussion involved in this thread is Where and Who should host GW4 next year? The committee has established the following list of questions we would like to have answered in the means of a formal proposal submitted by email to the committee. Our purpose is to be able to make an informed decision and be able to judge all interested groups on the same criteria. We want to see GW4 continue to grow and be as successful as the previous Woodstock events.

Please use the following questions as a guideline for your proposals:

1 The Name and Size of your organization

2 The experience your organization has with putting on events (please specify size of events)

3 The date you think you would want to host GW4

4 A preliminary layout for the event ie a basic schedule of events

5 The cache density of the immediate area.5, 10,20 miles radius

6 Any ideas on how you propose to pay to host the event.

All submittals can be sent to thefederation@joimail.com and I will forward them to the committee there is no deadline for submitting proposals but we would like to get initial proposals within the next 3 to 4 weeks. After that we will follow up with more specific questions and hopefully have a decision made by mid to end July. While we appreciate any comments supporting the groups that submit proposals in this forum we will only consider those groups who have actually submitted a formalized proposal to the committee. I have asked the forum Moderators to help as much as possible in keeping this thread on topic and not letting it become a free for all discussion. Please feel free to support your group or area but please try to keep the thread on topic.

NEFGA would like to offer our services and any assistance we can to the next group who gets GW4. If you have any questions in preparation for your proposals please feel free to email me and I will get you an answer as quickly as possible.

Interesting questions. Did you guys have to provide all the answers to the above questions or was it a bit more casual?

Its an event for Christ sake not a Government Contract!

There is a committee???? Didn't Joe make the decision all by himself for you guys?

Its not bad enough we had all the junk getting GW3 going, all the fun breaking and bending of the guidelines now there has to be a committee to pick the next place.

Just throw everyones name in a hat and pull out a name. Trust who ever wins to do a good job as you were trusted to do a good job.

This post probably fits my feelings closer than any other.

I was put off by the arrogance that happened about the same timeframe after GWII and now I see the same attitude shortly after GWIII. Along with some self appointed "commitee" sheesh.

Oops, sorry, was posting while El Diablo was.

  2. While you're at Blackwater, Canaan Valley State Park is just down the road and has some caches placed by the Park Rangers. I haven't visited any yet but you can look at this one and do a search for the nearby caches.

As far as North Bend, there have been a boatload of caches popping up near there.

Again, I haven't visited any in that area but you can search for the neaby caches from this one.

    Have a good trip.

  3. May 7 by xxxxxxx (16 found)

First find of the day. 5:00pm. Saw the cache, knew exactly where it was. BUT, too many ppl around, so i decided i would go find some more and come back when the double header was over. Found 2 more caches, got some dinner and came back around 8:45 that night. It was still packed. I didnt get to sign the log or even touch the cache. SO i dont know if it is actually a find or not. I saw the container though. Have to go back one evening and sign the book...Nice place

    sigh..........

  4. With the greatly appreciated actions of Team Turtles, the rescue mission was a smashing success.

Without trying to sound like an Oscar Award winner, I'd like to thank everyone for their suggestions and Team Turtles for the actual retrieval.

Also a huge thank you to Electric Mouse for all of the fabulous help and information provided.

    Thanks all.

  5. Here is a nifty link that I've seen a few reviewers post in a few threads.

I've only played with it a little but I find it can be very helpful. Input a set of co-ords and it's easy to check for nearest caches and such. Doing a multi? Use it for each leg.

You can view the cache location before you go through the trouble of placing it and writing the page to see if you're OK.

Like I said I've only toyed with it but I like it. (I like the lots of maps option myself)

  6. Team Turtles, thank you and I've sent the cache description. Good Luck!!

mgoose, I really appreciate the offer, and I will definitely contact you one way or the other. Your offer of aid is welcomed.

  7. I have no idea who the reviewer is in your area so try an e-mail to contact@geocaching dot com. Include the waypoint and problem. It'll end up where it needs to be seen.

  8. At the bottom of the cache page it'll say "approved by". Click on the aprover's name and email them through thier profile page explaining what happened. Be sure to include the waypoint ID (GCxxxx).

  9. Electric Mouse also had a very good suggestion, if a local cacher would be interested, this cache looks to be in a nice location and would be a good choice for adoption. If interested in adopting, please contact Electric Mouse or Reviewer Jones.

Just wondering... why wasn't the cache approved in the first place? I mean it seems odd it could be adopted but not approved (right now), was the person who placed it from far away or something??

It was a semi-vacation cache and the cacher didn't respond to the reviewer's request for additional information.

He also hasn't logged on to the site since the cache's submittal.

  10. Welch, thank you for the suggestions. I didn't think of those approaches and I'll give it a shot in that direction.

Electric Mouse you've been most helpful and I appreciate the assistance.

I'll leave the co-ords alone because I think you'd need the entire description to try to find this cache. It's a rather long write-up, so I'd prefer not to post it.

    Thanks again.

  11. Hello,

I’m posting this here instead of the TB section because I feel that my chances of this being read by someone that can help would be greater.

For starters I’m trying to help my brother get his stalled Travel Bug back in circulation. I know “It’s just a TB, let it go” but it seems that there’s a good chance that it can be retrieved and some geolitter can be removed too. Here’s what I know.

The TB was placed in a cache (Deep Blue) that never got approved. The hider apparently has quit the game and all e-mails sent were returned as undeliverable. I’m just assuming the cache is still in place. It was placed in Johnston County, Oklahoma approximately eight (crow-miles) NE of Tishomingo, east of I-377 on the west side of the Blue River. I’ve garnered that the co-ords are roughly N34° 19.xxx’ W096° 35.xxx’. The nearest caches are GCF35D and GCGDCQ

If anyone desires to help, please contact your local approver for more specific information.

    Thanks.

  12. ...I believe that there is also a prohibition against organized events as well....

That would be a bit much. Banning cache events would be on a par with banning family reuinions.

I agree that that would be a little extreme.

However, if you were to meet my family you'd tend to think it might not be a bad thing. :o

  13. Not being as wordy as Lep, I have to agree that "Polly" is my favorite cache also.

Quest Master also has a very fine traditional and an interesting virt in the same general area. This makes it very well worth spending the time to visit the Fairchance Three. Polly is the crown jewel.

Second on my list is tmp's Buzz One Four

It relates to the 1964 crash of a Strategic Air Command B-52 on Big Savage Mountain near Grantsville, MD.
