  1. You're right Richard. I've removed that line, it was poorly worded and sounded quite selfish. I think it should remain a free hobby also. I'm not trying to flame anyone. But I'm thinking the forum is a place to also post concerns though, not just "everything good". I've sent a few emails because Keystone wanted to reinstate my old cache, which is fine. It's been a week and there has been no response at all. Like you, I've always heard pretty much within' a day. Perhaps something is up with Keystone. Anyway, maybe geocaching has grown to the point of needing more approvers? Perhaps each state? Just ideas. I'll try to throttle my impatience in this nice weather... tpt
  2. Has anyone experienced slow cache approval in Ohio? I received a message from Keystone Approver and have sent several messages back. I have not heard a thing after several messages.
  3. Thanks for the tip greengecko! That is an incredible website. The decon boxes look great, and best of all they don't rust! quote:Originally posted by greengecko:I like Army decon kit boxes. They're dark green and measure approx. 4 1/4in. tall by 3 1/4in. wide by 2in. long. They are made of extra heavy duty plastic and have a removable water tight lid that seals really well. They even have a small hook to attach as needed. At $1.79 they are easy on the pocket. I bought the last ones at Army Surplus Warehouse at http://www.armysurpluswarehouse.com/categoryDetail.cfm?catagory=10&start=26 David, Jan, Hannah, Tyler, Rebecca, and Maggie the Geocaching Dog! http://www.muskingumriver.com
  4. They have several sizes where I get mine. They range from $2.99 on up to about $10. I prefer the M-60 cans for $3.99, but I noticed they have 50MM cans for $5.99. They even have a bunch of the heavy PVC mortar containers, a bit big for standard caches, but would be good for those deep woods caches. 5. I was wondering what kind of cache containers everyone prefers. Personally, I like to get ammo cans, paint over the scary text (200 tracer rounds for M-60 MG), and put an official geocaching sticker on them. Are there benefits to using one type of container over another? I'm fairly new to caching and would appreciate comments, especially from you seasoned verterans. David "TPT" PS. I get all my ammo cans from General Merchadise Store near Pataskala, Ohio. Good prices! David, Jan, Hannah, Tyler, Rebecca, and Maggie the Geocaching Dog! http://www.muskingumriver.com
  6. Big Mike, I often post coordinates if my readings are way off, sometimes I post it, but I've never told anyone to buy a new gps...LOL. I think if your readings are off, you should let the owner know, but only so he/she can check again. It should be done in a curteous manner. But as previously stated, if no one else if having problems, I wouldn't worry too much about it. There are way too many variables that can cause bogus readings. Keep on cachin', David "TPT" David, Jan, Hannah, Tyler, Rebecca, and Maggie the Geocaching Dog! http://www.muskingumriver.com
  7. I was sent this today by an ODNR officer: Geo-Caching Tips for ODNR Properties If you are considering establishing a cache on property owned or managed by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, (State Parks, State Forests, State Nature Preserves, State Wildlife Areas) please adhere to the following guidelines to avoid legal complications and/or prosecution: 1. Always consult the local facility manager for permission before establishing a cache. Many are eager to help determine safe, scenic, and fun locations. 2. Traditional caches are NOT permitted on State Nature Preserves or Wildlife Areas – virtual caches only. Illegally placed caches will be removed. 3. If you do not know how to contact a local facility manager, please contact the following staff: State Parks – Phil Hoffman – (614) 265-6561 State Forests – Don Karas – (614) 265-6694 State Nature Preserves – Ron Demmy – (614) 265-6453 State Wildlife Areas – Jennifer Windus – (614) 265-6330
  8. Draegon (did I spell your name correct), I think that was the point of my original post. I made a mistake. That being said, I also think that ODNR officers and other public servants should remember who they are serving, who is paying their salary, and perhaps handle such things in a way that might encourage public support. Caching in Ohio seems to be accepted differently depending on what county you live in. [imghttp://my.sota-oh.com/%7Edavidw/team.gif[/img]
  9. I unknowingly broke ODNR rules when I placed Morris's Hemlock Cathedral cache. Officer Seymour sent me a rather curt letter stating my cache was confiscated and that perhaps in the furture I'd research ODNR rules before attempting such a thing again. Well, he was right, and I apologized for this. I guess I was assuming it was okay because of the Alum Creek caches, but it was a pretty poor assumption. Thanks Bill for pointing me to the forums where I read Mr_0's letter regarding this matter. I'll try to be more careful in the future. There was a travelbug in the cache, I'm not sure which one because it wan't logged. If I can get the cache contents back, I will. I'm not sure where the confiscated caches go. Columbus? Do the officers keep them? I will consider putting a virtual cache at Morris Woods, but I see that you need permission for that too (scratching my head on that one).
