  1. Isonzo Karst, Nice run down of the local challenges, Thanks. I just checked out your A-Z ALR Cache, and found that I need 6 more (non regular) letters and 4 more icons. All those Montu/Jodster Multi's in Starkey Park will really helped with that challenge, and I see you have a "Zig Zag" multi which is the only Z I can find for miles. Thanks for the great information and something new to work towards.
  2. Hey, thanks, that's the one I remember reading about a few months back. I'll go through those bookmarks and see if there any others that are "local". It looks there are quite a few around the U.S.
  3. Some time ago I stumbled onto a description of a "challenge cache" in Florida that required you locate a cache in several counties, then you'd be sent information about the "final". Now, I can't remember where I found that, and I don't know how to find it again. I've read about several other challenge caches that sound interesting (like finding all 81 T/D combinations). I've looked at my PQ options, and Challenge Caches are not an option, as many of you probably already know. Is there a way to search out challenge caches in my area? Are they listed as Mystery Caches? Thanks for any help.
  4. That's answer makes sense, Keystone. My cache hides are pretty mundane and wouldn't impact someone like that.
  5. When the topic of changing a cache rating comes up, it seems to meet with disproval since it would change the stats of people who have found it. I've seen this come up even when someone is talking about increasing a rating. I can understand how decreasing a rating might upset someone who is into maintaining a high terrain/difficutly average, but why is it considered bad to increase a rating? Thanks.
  6. I came across one that was hidden in some brush in a very busy park. I could see the cache from the edge, but there was no way to grab it without drawing attention. So I decided next time I'd take a kid with me to play catch and overthrow the ball into the brush. The cache was muggled before I could give my plan a try.
  7. I didn't post this pic, but it's a cache I found today. (Personally, I think posting the pic ruins the surprise, but I didn't look at the pics before I did the cache.) It's called a "Micro Heaven", one of them contains the log. I don't have anything against Micros, and maybe if you live in an urban area they are a must. I try to avoid micros because I have kids who don't care about them. I've hidden two myself, but they were micros for a reason. Like to draw someone to an interesting place where a traditional cache wouldn't last. A magnetic key holder, in a gaurd rail, behind a Winn Dixie, next to a dumpster, does nothing for me (found that as part of a puzzle cache), but to each their own.
  8. It's nice to see park officials getting involved. I know Tallahassee's Park Department participates by places their own caches. Pasco County Florida asks geocaching groups to attend their events. Then there are other counties and cities around here that do not allow caches at all. It's wierd to see how polarized local government policy is on geocaching.
  9. Just this weekend I did some bad math on a Multi that required some light algebra to solve the final coordinates. My wrong coordinates took me to a clearing, but I started poking around in the nearest trees and scrub (about 100 feet away) and found an old cache that was burnt to a crisp. This is in an area that has controlled burns every couple of years. I was thinking about sending the coordinates to a reviewer to see if I can get any info about the history of the cache.
  10. I tried this, and it works great. Thanks for the tip.
  11. It actually wasn't in the cache "GCGAFC" which is in Conn., it was in a cache in Ocala, Florida, which according to the log has never been visited by Barefoot. Wierd.
  12. Ahhhh ... that explains it. And "Barefoot" logged this on that cache: "August 25, 2003 by Barefoot (3037 found) My first find! Took a prayer pin and left a fire department patch. Thanks!" I guess he made this to mark his first find. Thanks for the help.
  13. Hello, I'm pretty new at caching, so pardon what may be a dumb question. I found this object in a cache that I assume is a old GeoCoin. The cache didn't list any trackables at the time I found it. This is a Poker Chip with a sticker on it that says: Barefoot First Cache Find August 23, 2003 GCGAFC When I enter the tracking number I get an error page on the Geocoin website. What does that mean? Is it not a real Geocoin? Never Activated? It appears to be pretty old so I wanted to get it back on the map and moving again, but I'm not sure what to do at this point. Thanks.
  14. I'd also like to see more filter options added to the map search page. In addition to Micros, I'd also like to see the ability to filter caches that have/don't have travel bugs, but that's just me. I added several micros to my ignore list but they still show up in the both the map search and the text search.
  15. I've searched the last few days of posts to see if it's been discussed already.. Yesterday the satellite images on the google earth geocache search map stopped working for me. It's continued through today. I just get a grey background that says "Images not available at this zoom level - adjust your zoom level" regardless of my zoom level. Is anyone else seeing this? My zip is 34653. I've had wierd problems with my computer blocking incoming data lately and I want to see if it's just me or if this a problem with the server. I'm trying to plan a trip to Ocala Nation Forrest tomorrow and I'm so used to looking at the aerials for planning hikes/caches that I can't function without them.
