  1. All of Idaho's past coins have been designed and produced through our group forum with a volunteer to manage the project. This time around cachanova volunteered to head the project You may not recognize cachanova's name, but rest assured he's acting on all of IGO's behalf and with our full support on this project. Kealia, look me up for a trade once they arrive.
  2. You're free to ship your own gear. Making a kit available is mainly for those that don't want to hassle with it, or for those that don't already won the basics.
  3. I use the following to determine which size to post a container as... If a standard geocoin doesn't fit...it's a micro. If my gps doesn't fit into the cache but a standard geocoin will, it's a small If it's big enough to hold a small container...it's a regular If a .30 cal ammocan fits inside...it's a large.
  4. Actually, idahoflyer designed the IGO logo years ago, I just made it into an icon. I'll be proud to see it on my trackables page
  5. Shipping is included in this price. I especially like the icon on this one.
  6. A big thanks to Cachanova for heading up this project for us. This is one sweet coin and it couldn't have happened without you.
  7. Assignment received. This will be fun.
  8. Get involved to make it the best it can be and have fun. Try not to worry about jerks, they're not worth the effort.
  9. Do you have a link to this? Because the accidental shooting of non hunters by hunters is extremely rare in this country. I'm willing to bet that the victim was another hunter. The overwhelming majority of hunting accidents are hunters shooting their hunting partners or theirselves. You are far more likely to die driving to the parking area than you are to be shot by a hunter. Wearing orange reduces the chances further. Minnesota teen killed while hunting
  10. I got a thank you coin from Aaron and Tess. They're the best...ain't they?
  11. The original BadAndy icon was waving both arms.
  12. I am a caching worm, and this cache is the fish hook of truth that tears through my soul. ~Renegade Knight~
  13. I for one am happy to see that fuzzy dude waving at me again. Cache on!
  14. You are funny. I haven't had tomatos in my ears since our last 4th of July picnic. True north and magnetic north are two different locations on the earth. Close, but not the same location. True north is a constant and refers to the geographic North Pole. Magnetic north tends to shift and refers to the pole of the Earth's magnetic field. Therefore, if you set a waypoint according to magnetic north and a waypoint according to true north the exact location will not be quite the same. -Jeff The location has nothing to do with a compass or map bearing, true N or mag N. It's a fixed spot on the earth using a grid. Navigating to that point is different. If you're using a compass or a map, you better get your Norths correct or you may miss it. If you're using a gps or a bloodhound.... it doesn't matter. Projected waypoints are another story entirely as you need to know what reference the waypoint marker used and either match his reference or do the math.
  15. This topic does creep up a couple times a month it seems, and I still don't like fake coins. Moun10bike has had the answer all along. Activate your coins before sending them into the wild or trading them away.
  16. Idaho.... Pretty much anytime between sept 1st and mid december. You're probably in more danger from the animals than the hunters...
  17. The Rocky Mountain event will hopefully make it to mega status. Judging from the brainstorming, it'll have many event "firsts" and certainly is a unique format.. At first I liked the idea of increasing the notifications, after some thought I'm not so sure especially regarding "first annual" events. Anyone that planned an event could easily say "it'll be mega" and it'd be broadcast as if it were. They become mega because enough people were intrigued by stories of the previous event that they grow into a life of their own. It takes more than pizza and a raffle to get a caching family on a plane and cross the country for an event. If you're not already mega, you'll need to get creative and come up with a reason for 500 people to show up the first time. If it's a hit you're set for the next year, If it isn't, polish it up hold some fundraisers and get ready for round two.
  18. The cache page itself would normally describe the danger. Most often it is due to extreme terrain.
  19. To answer a few questions.. The fairgrounds is booked solid until Aug which is when they basically close down in preperations for the fair over Labor day. Since geocachers are so likable, they have allowed us use of the grounds for our event on the first weekend of aug. Some of the ideas being passed around.... Tents and camping gear... For those driving to the event by all means byo camping gear or camper or RV. For those flying in or who don't already own a tent and gear, we'll put together an inexpensive (around $100.00) set of equipment including tent, sleeping bags and other camping essentials. After the event we'll provide a box to pack it into and ship it back home as well as dropoff service to the post office. This would be an excellant way to get started camping. Meal service would be chuckwagon style for friday dinner, breakfast and dinner on sat and sun breakfast. There would be a registration package with swag (coin tshirt etc) and a meal pass on a per person basis. Cost should be minimal (under $25.00). A chartered bus (or 2 depending on registrations) would depart early sunday morning for a guided tour of Yellowstones most popular venues (and virtuals), returning sunday afternoon. This charter is an additional fee, as yet unknown. Meet and greet (and caching) on friday... exhibits and seminars (and caching) on sat and goodbyes/yellowstone trip on sunday (with some caching thrown in). Please remember that much of this is still pretty fluid and other than the date and location, little is set in stone. *edited to add* There are flush toilets and showers onsite.
  20. The stone would land in Idaho at the Eastern Idaho State Fairgrounds. Ok it'd be an allstar throw, but it's less than an inch on my map.
  21. We're in the first stages of planning a Mega event in the heart of the Rockies, a stones throw from Yellowstone Natl park. Before we commit our own money and begin fundraising efforts for this project, we'd like to gauge the actual interest in this event. We envision a Rendevous style gathering with chuckwagon and dutch oven meals and a tent city. Tents and other needed gear will be made available for attendees, as well as RV hookups and local hotels. A guided day trip to Yellowstone is also on the agenda. Timeframe is Aug 3-5 2007 Is this something you'd attend?
  22. I realized that same thing too late. To all those that have asked if I have any more or if there will be another run. This series is sold out and I have no extra sets. While I do have a handful of gold, silver, copper and black nickel I don't plan to sell any of them. All but the black nickel and copper are used as swag in my local caching runs. The dies have been retired and will not be used again. I'm currently working on my 2007 edition, but it'll be quite a bit different. As for the icon, all I know is that Groundspeak is working on it. The last update I got was 1 week ago.
