  1. 16 wheels of cheese on the wall 16 wheels of cheese... you take one down and pass it around 15 wheels of cheese on the wall!
  2. I've never kept track, but it was probably around 20 or so.
  3. $7,500.00 for a rusted beatup can? Even if it is the OCB, I don't get why it would be valued so high. I suppose if you had a roll of $100 bills hanging next to your toilet you might place such a bid.
  4. Heres a puzzlecache thats not in a remote location. It was placed in Jan 2005 and no ones even come close to solving it yet. Colors of caching Heres another by the same hider that has not been solved, but it has been found. Placed in march of 04. Undisclosed location
  5. One of my first hides was not approved until I moved it. My first choice turned out to be less than 5 feet from another (members only) cache. I didn't see it on my cache listing because I had not yet become a member. A good spot is a good spot...
  6. Thanks, Keystone, you know I value your advice, even if we don't often agree. But, as you acknowledge, it does in fact remain in dispute. Every cache listing, by having the checkbox checked, states in part that "By submitting a cache listing, you assure us that you have adequate permission to hide your cache in the selected location." when in fact we know that most caches do not have ANY permission. How is it determined whether permission is required? Often by a geocacher being confronted by authorities, or a complaint being lodged after the listing is placed. In only rare cases are landowner's regulations published so that geocachers know up front what they are. How does one discover whether the permission that was gained is adequate? Unfortunately, the same way - in hindsight, usually by some unfortunate circumstance. While I'm not nearly as smart as Keystone is, I'm way better looking... Your argument depends on the flawed assumption that implied permission equals no permission at all. When the sign at the park reads: Park open from dawn to dusk No alcoholic beverages or glass allowed No fireworks No dogs allowed That sign is giving implied permission for all other legal non disruptive recreative activities. Your argument would also require picnikers, kite flyers and frisbee throwers to get a permit. edited speiling
  7. The book linked is titles "geocaching for dummies". I don't know if Amazon carries it, but I've seen it on eBay.
  8. More and more caches are log only. I prefer caches with swag (loot) for trades. When I go out of town to cache, I filter all micro's from my pocket query to avoid log only caches.
  9. And that, my friend, is exactly the point of my question! Thank you! SOMEBODY had to say it - we don't get permission because it's too much trouble, and the community accepts living a lie because enforcing it might threaten the game! Now, we either petition Groundspeak to eliminate the guideline or we admit that we select which guidelines we will follow! If the latter, then all the recent uproar about following the guidelines to the letter is moot. Thats a crock. We don't get explicit written permission for every cache because it's not needed or required, not because it's too much hassle. This goes back to the dead horse argument of when and how explicit permission is needed. This question remains in dispute. Just because 1 post finally opined your original secret point doesn't validate it.
  10. Most landowners I know would eventually ask that a cache that they had previously given permission for be removed if they had cachers knocking at their door every day asking "are you *sure* you gave permission for this cache?". Your suggestion would only lead to valid caches being archived and harrasment of landowners by cache cops. You betcha. If a landowner comes out and says "Hey, that ain't supposed to be here". If on the other hand he was harrassed by cache cops to the point he's fed up with geocaching, the cache should still be archived, but the overzealous cache cop should have his account shut down. I tried to ignore the trollbait riddled drama in the original post, but it was just too thick. It's obvious to me that there isn't really a question here...more of a gripe about cache cops. Personally...I think cache cops suck. They do little to enhance the game and are more interested in their own agenda than anything else.
  11. Did the entire plastic base where the screw threads in come out with the battery cover? Mind did last Saturday, and did it ever pee me off. I thought for a unit only four years old, in excellent condition, it was poor engineering. There should have been a metal boss inserted into the plastic housing. no it didnt come out its stripped so i cant close it anymore and create a watertight seal im sorry to hear yours had a similar destiny. I had the same problem with mine. I removed the o-ring and it was able to grab some threads. I upgraded to the explorist 600 and love it. Mag tech support does suck, but fortunately the forums here have provided all the support I've needed.
  12. with the average cost of a 512 meg sd card on ebay being around $20.00 including shipping....I'd opt for overkill.
  13. My 40 caches that are hidden in a container, I used.... 15 ammocans 8 decon boxes 6 custom containers (bolts, etc) 5 35mm film cans 5 altoids cans 1 Mortar tube Early on I favored film cans and altoids tins. The last film can I placed was in Sept/2003 and the last altoids tin I placed was in dec/2003. Since then they've all been ammocans, decons, custom jobs and a mortar tube (I love the smell of surplus stores).
  14. Around here we have vast areas covered in ancient broken lava. You could be 3 feet from a 5 gallon bucket and never see it.
  15. I have a wormhole in my laundry room but I doubt I'd put a cache there. The only time I ever use it is in the morning when I need to match up a sock to make a pair. One time I forgot to return to the future and had to repeat a full week. That sucked.
  16. List some of yours on ebay with BIN prices to under cut them. I did just that whth my coins. After the first dutch auction of 15 coins sold out in a day, I listed another 15. Two days later, I listed another 15. In 4 days I sold 45 coins ....and it didn't dent the demand on ebay. Looking back, I'd have been *much* better off selling them at ebay market value.
  17. Yes, as long as you list the second cache somewhere else.
  18. Repositioning the orbit of a satellite isn't something thats easily done. There are no trees, buildings or cliffs at White sands. Nothing but big open sky. Couple that with a good constellation and a waas signal and 5 feet is about right.

  20. If I must leave my rig unattended at a trailhead for more than just a couple hours, I make sure there is nothing valuable inside and leave the door unlocked. I'd rather find a ransacked glovebox than to find smashed windows and a ransacked glovebox.
  21. I believe whats he's saying is... Instead of categorizing caches by the container size, seperate them by how they might be characterized. Instead of micro/small/regular/large it'll be driveby/greenbelt hike/bushwhack/trek. Sorta like a star rating....only different.
  22. I was under the impression that the GPS satellites were in geo-synchronous orbit which should make the stationary relative to us. Not correct? The 2 WAAS sats are in geosync orbit, the rest are not
  23. Remember that the GPS works on radio transmissions. Many hams can tell you about radio waves and daylight hours. Heres something I found about it. The ionosphere and radio waves.
  24. A rolled up sheet of paper works well. You'll also need to get someone that actually lives near the cache to agree to help maintain it, otherwise it will not be approved/published.
